It had been since March since my last haircut. Covid 19 had closed the barbers down, and I was reluctant to go to them after they opened; you have to get very chummy with your barber, after all. It's much closer than anybody except maybe your dentist.
So I put it off as long as possible. I would like to say I had developed a long flowing mane of hair, making me look like Fabio, but in reality I looked more like Curly with Shemp Howard's haircut. So I had to bite the bullet.
I went to a local place, not a barber. I prefer old man barbers who just cut the hair off and talk sports, but I didn't have a regular anymore and the last guy I went to got a packaged delivered by another old Italian guy while he had the razor to my neck, and both of them were swiveling their heads about and so I put that fellow down to my last option after that; I really don't want to find a horse's head in my bed some morning.
So off I trudged into the unfamiliar yellow of the day (since the lockdown began I have been pretty much like Dracula, living entirely in artificial light.)
My neighbor stopped me with some news. She has a camera mounted on her porch and caught footage of a car casing housing, particularly my own. It was three a.m. when a car with flashers on was slowly making it's way down the street, shining a spotlight on certain houses. It stopped right in front of my house and checked it out. She reported it to the police who agreed it was most likely someone casing the neighborhood, as cops don't use flashers but the big overhead lights, and they don't have passenger side spotlights.
She had posted it online and took a pasting from people who wanted to dismiss it as criminal activity "probaboly searching for their lost cat". At 3 o'clock in the morning, using a spotlight?
As my neighbor pointed out, the City has cracked down on crime, creating the so-called "Haynden's Rectangle" where crime had been running rampant. Well, what happens when you crack down on crime only in one area? Anybody?
That is the bureaucratic mind aat work. Nobody ever even considered that criminals have cars and can move.
They should have learned; when St. Louis tore down McCree Town, a slum in midtown, the criminals just moved further south, primarily into Dutchtown, a working class neighborhood. Now Dutchtown is a crime-riddled ghetto area, but that is fairly recent and was clearly caused by elminating one bad neighborhood. People have to go somewhere, even criminals.
At any rate, I'm going to have to be vigilant. It helps that I don't have anything worth stealing...
At any rate, I had my hair cut by a middle aged woman in a south side establishment. For those of you who do not know St. Louis, the south side is the deepest of blue territory, Democratic to the core. These are the people who wear medals to St. Franklin Roosevelt. These are blue collar Democrats, the kind who used to be the bread and butter of the party.
I really didn't feel like discussing politics, but after some chit-chat about Coronavirus she brought it up.
To be frank, I was rather shocked by what she was telling me. She said at least three times "I don't know if I can bring myself to vote for Trump" even though I had said nothing about it and made no mention of my own politics. It was like a woman trying to talk herself out of something she already decided to do "I don't like the way he talks. But he's done a lot of good stuff". I agreed to both.
She then told me most of her south side clients said they were voting Trump, and almost all of her BLACK clients and friends have been trying to talk her into voting Trump! Apparently the choice of Kamala Harris has enraged the Black community, at least here in St. Louis.
Now this is just one person, but she talks to a lot of people every day, a lot of blue collar locals. I was rather under the impression most of them were going back to the Democrats this election cycle.
If she is any indication of how people are going to vote we may be in for a big surprise comeback by the President.
But vote fraud is going to run rampant in this election. I rather suspect that if Trump wins all the old blue collar Democrats he's still going to be in peril and the dead shall rise from their graves at the last Trump, or to make it the last of Trump.
