The Envirommental Impact of Keystone XL

Timothy Birdnow

Willis Eschenbach complained of being suspended on Facebook for posting a meme with Kathy Griffin holding Biden's severed head. A liberal chimed in to complain:

Roger Scott:

Kathy Griffin’s stunt was in poor taste and sabotaged her career. It may also have placed her on FB jail for all we know.

With respect to your post, two wrongs do not make a right.

Regarding Keystone, the jobs were maybe 10,000 temporary gig jobs. But the pipeline has already caused environment a d likely would have resulted in more not to mention the discretion of Native American land.

Eduardo Ferreyra rebuts:

Roger Scott regarding your potential prophecy about Keystone environmental damage needs hard factual information. The net result until now is that Warren Buffet is getting a lot of money as oil companies began shipping oil by Buffet's railroad network.

Roger fires back:

Willis adds:

Roger Scott It seems you missed this part of the link you posted:

===
"The proposed new Keystone XL Pipeline would run through the state diagonally from the northwestern corner to Tripp County in south central South Dakota. The pipeline doesn’t run directly through any reservations in the state, though it borders the Cheyenne River Reservation on the south and Pine Ridge and Rosebud reservations on the north."
===

DOESN'T RUN THROUGH ANY RESERVATIONS!!!

Roger, you gotta learn that not everybody whining has something to whine about.

Daniel Bryce adds:

The tribal leaders that are against pipelines are either complicit or ignorant.

Question: what will be the environmental impact of shipping that oil over the mountains to the Pacific Ocean and then shipping it to China, While simultaneously drilling for oil in the Middle East, and shipping it to the US?

What’s the environmental impact of the wars that will now be found in the Middle East so that the US can have their oil?

You realize that’s the alternative do you not?

I retorted:

Of the 10 worst oil spills in history only
https://www.britannica.com/list/9-of-the-biggest-oil-spills-in-history

The sixth largest was the Kolva River spill when a corroded pipeline burst in the Russian Arctic in 1994.

The fifth largest was the Mingulak spill in Uzbekistan in 1992

Other than those two the top ten were all either oil tankers or offshore drilling platforms (or the spill intentionally caused during the Gulf War). Oil pipelines are safer than tankers, certainly, and trains as well.

Just back in December a train carrying oil derailed and caught fire. https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/bnsf-train-carrying-crude-oil-derails-catches-fire-in-washington-state-near-canadian-border/ar-BB1c9zRz?fbclid=IwAR1Ilg-mA_Z_geMpQOouNhIp4EpEBZwE63iL-_22mIVljcT7a2TBsacTa1w&c=1076960156441257251&mkt=en-us

This is not about the environment. It is about limiting American oil so we have to buy from overseas - and are thus under the influence of oil producing nations and international regulatory bodies. It's internationalism dresses in a green gown. And it is intended to make us live a more austere lifestyle. After all, who are WE to live better than everyone else! That is the thinking of many in the environmental movement.

1 Actually, the oil in Keystone is Canadian oil, not American.

Nonetheless, arguments about relative levels of pollution and risk remain entirely valid. The Alaska pipeline was predicted to render the state of Alaska uninhabitable due to massive spills which would kill virtually all of the wildlife and significant portions of the human population. (Well, okay, maybe I'm being a little hyperbolic there.) The media is trying to pretend that pipeline does not exist, because it has done essentially no damage whatever.

2 Well Bill I said limiting American oil, and once we buy it from Canada it is ours, naturally. I take your point though.

Yeah; the Alaskan pipeline puts the lie to their claims.
