Black Speaker Preaching Self-Reliance To Blacks Protested By Black Students

Jason Riley's a good one. But if people won't listen. . This from Tim:

This is the old battle. Booker T. Washington promoted self-reliance and civil behavior as a way to bring Blacks into the mainstream and he was opposed by the NAACP, which promised the broad and easy path of political power over hard work and dedicated living. Guess who won?

Washington understood them perfectly. He stated:

""There is a class of colored people who make a business of keeping the troubles, the wrongs, and the hardships of the Negro race before the public. Some of these people do not want the Negro to lose his grievances, because they do not want to lose their jobs. There is a certain class of race-problem solvers who don't want the patient to get well."

The article states:

And that class won the fight, because they offered the easy shortcut. They are the leaders of most African American groups today.

According to the CU Independent, CU’s Black Law Students’ Association released an email in which they stated:

Mr. Riley opines that liberalism "has also succeeded, tragically, in convincing blacks to see themselves, first and foremost, as victims. Today there is no greater impediment than the self-pitying mindset that permeates black culture.” Well, we take great offense to that statement. The United States’ tainted legacy of slavery, Jim Crow, the school-to-prison pipeline has left the black population of this country in a disenfranchised, and problematic position. We do not pity ourselves, we are not bleeding hearts—but we refuse to speak about blackness and/or black power without a thorough acknowledgment of the injustice blacks have suffered in this country.

And there EXACTLY is the problem; they don't see themselves as Americans who happen to be black but as a distinct nation, seperate from the majority. You don't see this with immigrant peoples (or didn't used to) as those immigrants used to seek to be Americans first and their children may have celebrated their Irish or Italian or Polish heritage once in a while but did not form their own unique cultural identity outside of the mainstream. It is this very BLACKNESS that has held back African Americans, and the complaints of the "pipeline from school to prison is not in any way some institutional discrimination but is rather a result of the very seperate culture that these students seek to promote and succour. The fact is, so many black men are in prison solely because they value a culture which promotes criminality and violence. Listen to any rap song if you doubt that.

Yes, there was slavery and Jim Crowe, but what minority did not suffer some injustice in the past. Last time I checked slavery had ended over a hundred and fifty years ago. Irish were never slaves in the U.S. (although there were Irish slaves in the Carribean) but they were treated no better than blacks under Jim Crowe. But Saturday cities across the country will host parades and parties to honor the Irish, and few Irish Americans see themselves as anything but Americans. Yet blacks refuse to let the past go.

How many times do you have to catch your equipment in your fly before you stop zipping before putting it away? Black culture has failed the African American community repeatedly, yet to paraphrase Orweel, they return to it like a dog returns to it's vomit. And the worse it fails the more stubborn the leaders of the Black community become.

All of the marches and protests and demands for better schools or whatnot accomplish nothing. Here in st. Louis they rebuilt an all black high school and within a year the sparkling new, state of the art facility was in ruins. Why? Because the kids sent there had no respect for it, or for themselves. That has to change.

If Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton want to see the racist keeping the black community down they need but look in the mirror.
