2 Think again, Dana. St. Charles is essentially a contiguous suburb of St. Louis, and it has a horrendous crime rate.

3 Bill, you're right about it having a high crime rate, but I wouldn't call it horrendous. Next to St. Louis it's pretty good, but that's not saying much.

St. Charles county is pretty large, and there are some very rural areas there. But the core - St. Charles, St. Peters, O'Fallon, etc. are being colonized by the criminal element, who have pretty much bled St. Louis dry and are now moving out there - probably on the taxpayer dime, I might add. The government is always laboring to integrate the area and all they do is move criminals around.

When I worked in real estate I was always getting calls from black folks who wanted to get away from the same people the government is moving out to St. Charles.

It's disgraceful.

That said, St. Charles County is quite conservative for now, and the County Council never had a mask mandate, for instance. Oh, and they had Covid levels lower than St. Louis County under the leadership of His Imperial Majesty Dr. Sam Page.

4 Dana, you are always welcome here. One of these days I'm going to move out that way. I always wanted to move to country but THAT won't happen given our need to be close to doctors, but St. Charles might be worth it. (Actually prices have gone up to the point it would be better to go to one of the other counties around.)

5 Thanks, Tim. Actually, if we were ever to decide to move again (which is vanishingly unlikely to happen) we might consider South Dakota, for its sensible leadership. Except that you can't get CBD oil products there.

6 South Dakota? I was going to say you'd freeze, but then you are used to that in Minnesota.

If I were thinking of moving out of state it would be to Texas, probably. I love the Hill Country.

7 South Dakota is just off to the left of us here at our latitude, so it wouldn't be expected to be any colder -- or hotter.

It's North Dakota ("Nordakota") that's so darn cold. They say "40 below keeps out the riff-raff."

My mother's cousin owned a ranch in Cody Wyoming, which is in the south of Wyoming, and it got down well below zero in winter. -40 was not all that uncommon they said.

Once there was a blizzard and the power went out. Everyone had electric heat because gas lines tended to freeze, so everyone was without power. My cousin had a woodstove and all his neighbors piled in. They  put all the kids in one bed, along with the animals. When the firewood ran out they burned his furniture! 

I'll pass on that.
