Texas Becomes First State to Close Doors to New Refugees

Dana Mathewson

This is good news indeed. Dare we hope other states will follow suit?

From Townhall:

Texas Governor Greg Abbott has closed the doors to new refugees in the state of Texas, making him the first governor to refuse new refugees under an executive order signed by President Trump empowering state and local governments with control over refugee resettlement within their jurisdictions.

While other Republican governors have come under fire for allowing refugee resettlement to continue within their states -- at least 18 Republican governors have given their consent -- in a letter to Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Abbott writes that Texas has already taken in more than its fair share of refugees while also contending with the "disproportionate migration issues resulting from a broken federal immigration system."

It's a short article, but very much to the point. Go here https://townhall.com/tipsheet/bronsonstocking/2020/01/10/texas-becomes-first-state-to-close-its-doors-to-refugees-n2559345 to read it.

Now if Gov. Abbott would just extend this to barring Leftists from settling in Texas!

1 Good for him!  I gave my own Republican goveernor hell over this issue the other day. I cannot imagine what is going through the heads of these idiots.

Kudos for Abbott!  I may have to move down to Texas.

2 If you do, make sure you don't say anything about being a refugee from Mizzou!

3 I hear you, Dana!

There has always been an unspoken rivalry with Texas here in Missouri. We're a very similar state in many ways, and at least on our side there has always been a feeling that Texas is trying to steal our thunder (I doubt they have the same sense, but who knows?) We are the top beef producer in America behind Texas, for instance. Western Missouri was famous for cowboys in much the same way as Texas is now for that reason.

I doubt they look at US as competition (who really notices the peremnial second place guy?) but who knows? Maybe they won't like us immigrating to the Lone Star State?
