Snow, Cold in Mid May

Timothy Birdnow

Measurable snowfall in Central Park - on May 10!  This ties the record for latest snowfall set during the trough of the "global cooling" scare in 1977.

Across America records shattered as temperatures plummeted.

I was at the Ozark Hilton and couldn't sit outside after dark because it was too cold. I had to light a fire in the cabin.

That global warming sure needs to hurry along.

1 We've just had a couple nights go below freezing, in the Twin Cities area. No snow. But hey, this is Minnesota; what do you expect?

2 We dropped down to 34 which is utterly ridiculous for this time of year (often we are running the air conditioning now in St. Louis.) I expect you hearty northerners to get a frost up in 'sota Dana; I remember a frost in summer when Cathy and I did the North Shore trip years ago (and a wicked hailstorm to boot.)

3 This time of year it's not unusual for Martha and me to cycle back and forth between heat and A/C. Or even A/C on the upper level, heat on the lower -- more specifically, A/C upper level during the day when the sun comes in, a bit of heat lower level when we go down to eat supper and watch the idiot box. (Except that we watch good stuff like HGTV, the Food Network -- "Chopped" and "Guy Fieri" are favorites -- and maybe a bit of Fox News such as Mark Levin.)

4 January to March this year is much warmer than usual, and the unusually cold temperatures in May will be reduced from the North Pole. English essay writers Cold Arctic air may be related to the tearing of the spring vortex, which is cold low-pressure air located in the polar region

5 AC upstairs and heat down?  I will officially stop my bellyaching!

Man you guys are hearty up thar!

Good for you watching decent HGTV. I watch antenna television myself; it's a lot of old good television these days (get sixty channels) so I'm not stuck with the NBC Evening News or the Bachelor. But it certainly is not like that!

6 English Essay Writing, you may be a spammer but you did leave a nice comment. Thank you for that!  You are right; there was a strong polar vortex this spring which is why we've had such a cool May. Usually the PV moves to the South Pole by now but this one is hanging around up north late, and the breakdown has a lot of late cold air moving in.
