Sen. Tim Kaine inserts both feet into mouth, bites down hard

Dana Mathewson

Power Line's Paul Mirengoff points out that "Lost amidst all of the other good news from the 2016 elections was the fact that Tim Kaine didn’t get to be vice president. Unfortunately, he’s still a U.S. Senator."

Today, Kaine took to the Senate floor to declare that "the United States didn’t inherit slavery from anybody, we created it.” This statement brought down a torrent of ridicule. Perhaps the funniest response is this piece by Megan Fox at PJ Media.

Ms. Fox's article goes on to say:

This claim sent shockwaves of outrage through the recesses of Hell, where Egyptian pharaohs and the emperors of Rome reside. "How dare he take credit for slavery,” said King Tut. "Who the hell does he think built the pyramids? Aliens?”

Diocletian wasn’t any more complimentary. "The Roman methods of torturing slaves are so renowned around the world that millions of people wear the instrument of our torture around their necks as a reminder of the sheer brutality we wrought on the world’s underprivileged. Americans tried hard, but until you feed people to wild animals in front of cheering crowds you haven’t even begun to realize your potential in crimes against humanity.”

Julius Ceasar told reporters, "Those were the days. One time I sold 53,000 citizens of Gaul to traders on the same day. Man, what a windfall that was.”

Satan had to get his two cents in there too and declared, "I am the true creator of slavery. Duh. My specialty is putting people in bondage. It’s like, my whole gig.” Mohammed then piped up, "Not so fast, Beezelbub, my contributions to the history of enslaving people continues to this day,” he grinned. "Boko Haram is kidnapping African children right now!”

Even some citizens of the heavenly realms got annoyed. Moses sent a strongly worded letter to the majority leader that stated, "Tim Kaine has a lot of nerve to blame America for slavery. Has he never picked up a Bible? I literally had to climb a mountain and get those tablets twice because of people like him who can’t pay attention in Sunday school.” He continued, eyes blazing, "Hasn’t he ever seen that movie with Charlton Heston playing me? I’m probably the most famous slave of all time!” Moses then threw his arms up in disgust and spat out, "I wish I could send locusts to Congress. Where’s my staff? Aaron!”

Thomas Jefferson sent a telegram from purgatory to Kaine’s office that read, "Are you dumb or something? And by the way, I always wanted to abolish slavery and am quite proud my countrymen did it.”

2 What a maroon!  Kain's anthem should be "don't know much about history".

I know the left claims we "invented" slavery here because we didn't have it the first couple of years after the Virginia colony was established. What they don't know is it was ubiquitous all over the world back then and the court ruling that established the legality of slavery here was instituted by a black man originally from Angola (who had himself been a slave) who sued to keep his indentured servant John Casor, whose term of service was up. Johnson argued that Casor was not a contract worker but his personal property. Johnson won (again, this was based on English Common Law and slavery was widely practiced elsewhere in the Empire) and so we started the slave trade here. It was a black guy.

And there were always black slave holders. The biggest slave holder in antebellum Louisiana was a black man named Antoine Dubuclet. http://theweeklychallenger.com/top-10-black-slaveowners/

But truth doesn't matter; Kaine needed to show he's on the "right side" of this and accept the 1619 Project interpretation of history.

One last point; men like Jefferson continued to keep slaves after advocating for abolition for a very good reason; these slaves had no protection under the law if set free and would likely wind up being claimed by some unscrupulous person as "runaway property". Had Jefferson freed them they were at the mercy of everyone and anyone. By keeping them under a light yoke he kept them free, or freer than the would be otherwise. It was a kindness on his part, one that is now earning him reprove and antipathy.

Goes to show a good deed never goes unpunished.

3 You're correct, Tim. And all those idiots who insist that Jefferson played around with his slave Sally Hemmings are wrong. She was "done wrong" by a ne're-do-well nephew of Thomas, and there is DNA proof of it. But truth is never of interest when it gets in the way of The Narrative.

4 Yeah Dana; I had heard that about Jefferson and the whole Sally Hemming business. Jefferson's political opponents started that off as a scurrilous rumor to attack him (messing with your slaves was a big no-no for any gentleman at the time.)
