One Good Nuke Can Ruin Your Whole Day

Timothy Birdnow

As the powers-that-be beat the war drum and the public jumps on the the Russian war wagon, one must marvel at the hypocrisy and stupidity of it all.

What is happening today is reminiscent of the war fever we saw in the leadup to the disastrous War of 1812. America went into THAT war with equal fervor, and thought nothing could go wrong. But it went very wrong, with the British sacking Washington D.C. and burning the White House (well, they'd be doing us a favor now, but that was then.) Had Britain not been war-weary from fighting the French they could have re-colonized us, forcing us back into the British Empire.

It also reminds me of the war fever prior to WWI. In many ways it's more like that; a number of power blocks and entangling alliances about to go to war simply because they want to do so.

WWI was a victory for America, but a disaster for the world. It gave the world Mussolini and Hitler, and a far worse war would be fought, one that would engulf the world and end with half of Europe under the Soviet boot.

At any rate war seems to be the newest New Thing and most of our leadership is on board with it.

Even some good Conservatives like Tom Cotton or John Kennedy are gung-ho for the war, itching to finally have it out with those dern Russkies.

I suppose that's understandable; America fought the Cold War from the end of the forties until the nineties, and we never actually beat them in battle. We simply outlasted them. The went broke. Many on our side wanted to actually come to blows with them and win.

And of course we know the Hillary Clinton camp played on this, resurrecting the Russians as villains in order to tap the residual animosity towards the Red Menace (a term more applicable to the West these days than to Mother Russia.) She ginned up Russia-hatred by playing on those old Cold War animosities, and the era of a new Cold War began.

Ignored were all the provocations BY NATO, from expanding right to Russia's border and even inside, to tampering with Russia's economy and Russias neighbors governments (the Orange Revolution in Ukraine overthrew the elected pro-Russian President in favor of a western puppet.) The Deployment of ABM systems in Poland, Hungary, etc didn't help either. Nor did the fact we kept running biological labs in Ukraine.

At any rate we have not only sent huge amounts of weapons and money to one side of the Ukrainian conflict (an act of war) but we are now sending them spent nuclear material to use as shells - dirty bombs, essentially. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-66736869

That is a weapon of terror; it has no other purpose. And it is a HUGE escalation.

Now I have argued for a long time that this war could be easily ended if we just got the price of oil and gas down. Putin would run out of money. But Biden and the other Mandarins of the Western "Rules Based Order" refuse because they are married to their green dreams of an all-electric economy, and to get there they must have exorbitant fossil-fuel prices to drive the public into the little go-carts and the like they want us to use (which are Trojan Hearses; they are to kill gas engines then the price will rise, forcing everyone on public transportation, a fond dream of the Left for decades.) Rising atmospheric CO2 is, in their estimation, a "planetary emergency". We are all going to die from climate change driven by carbon dioxide!

So WHY DO THEY WANT TO PUSH US TO THE BRINK OF NUCLEAR WAR?

It has been estimated that even a very modest nuclear exchange would generate somewhere around 690 million British tons of CO2. That is more than the yearly output of carbon dioxide in Britain. https://www.theguardian.com/environment/blog/2009/jan/02/nuclear-war-emissions And that is just a tiny nuclear exchange. One between America and Russia would be far larger. (Clark et al) That is using just 1/1000th of our nukes.

So carbon dioxide is our great enemy except when it's not. Nuclear war with Russia is an acceptable risk to these people - but our cars aren't.

BTW researchers at the University of Louisville published a paper arguing that all of the current global warming we see was NOT caused by carbon dioxide but by underground nuclear tests. From the abstract:

https://www.authorea.com/users/519642/articles/593292-underground-nuclear-testing-the-leading-cause-of-global-warming

"This paper aims to document a scienti c linkage between the underground testing of nuclear weapons and global warming. An
empirical analysis of CO2 and fossil- fuel data post-1945 suggests that global warming is not clearly attributable to greenhouse
gas emissions alone. Our data indicates beyond statistical doubt a direct linkage between the rise in CO2 levels and under-
ground bomb testing; rendering adverse consequences like global warming, radioactive contamination of terrestrial and marine
ecosystems, and major disruptions to temperature patterns around the world. The derivative carbon footprint of underground
nuclear testing is colossal and can bring about devastating human-induced climate changes which are not just massive but
potentially irreversible."

End

So here we have our leaders eagerly promoting the escalation of war with Russia, a war that could turn nuclear - even if only tactical nukes are used - and could radically increase carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere, aggravating a problem THEY claim is a planetary emergency. Brilliant.

Personally I'd rather just keep my car.

BTW to put the lie to this whole climate thing we now have the environmentalists trying to ban wood stoves for heating. Wood is a renewable resource - exactly the kind of energy source these people claim to want. That's because they want to make everyone reliant on them for heating and cooling and lights. It's a form of hydraulic empire, only one controlling not just water but all energy. Energy independence is intolerable. (And solar and wind are NOT independent as the batteries and panels and windmills must be replaces on a fairly regular basis and THOSE are under the control of the rulers.)

At any rate we are courting the Big One. And that just could ruin everyone's day.

This inspires me; the muse is upon me (in my best Dom Deloise voice):

The Russians are coming we must fight back
send out the alarm to the commanders at SAC
If you see a bright flash you will soon turn to clay
now kiss your butt goodbye,
but do have a nice day!

1 Gotta say that last little bit of doggerel is inspired -- no doubt about it. In another vein it reminds me of Tom Lehrer's "Fight Fiercely, Harvard," which I'll let you look up if you can find it -- but of course if you can't I'll help you out, being the nice guy that I am.
