Gee, one free trip to the grocery store, or maybe a couple tanks of gas!
NY Gov. Hochul Announces Questionable Plan to "Fight Inflation" by Giving Everyone $300
Of course this is money coming out of the pockets of people who are struggling with inflation to give them this shopping spree in the first place. At least with the Feds they just print more money; state governments cannot do that. It's just musical chairs.
Hochum's scheme was met with derision. From the article:
"If you cut taxes and spending as an actual leader would do, you don't have to rely on gimmicks that reek of desperation and incompetence," replied former state Assemblyman Steve McLaughlin, a Republican.
Others mocked her for trying to fight inflation with a "solution" that would likely lead to higher inflation.
"Maybe take a basic Econ 101 class before proposing legislation. What's next? Is your plan to fight obesity to give everyone over 250lbs free donuts?" read one response.
"Giving out more money to people as an 'Inflation Refund' is literally the dumbest and least intelligent solution to inflation ... maybe ever," responded entrepreneur Darin Feinstein.
"This reads like satire to me. Handing out government money in an inflationary environment is exactly how more inflation occurs. It’s adding fuel to the fire," read another response.
Wouldn't it be amazing if New York would elect a Republican governor? They've had them before, after all.
Hochul is attempting to do a magicians act here, making it appear she's doing something about inflation when in fact she's just waiving her magic wand and saying "hocus pocus" and hoping to fool the audience. Sadly she's a rank amateur magician who fools nobody.

Ten Democrat members of Congress are seeking to sue Donald Trump over the January 6 business. This is an aggregious abuse of their positions and of the courts and should be dismissed based on standing and as frivolous.
I say based on standing because none of these people were actually damaged by Mr. Trump in any way. At worst some government property was damaged, not the individual congress critters. and Trump called for "peaceful and patriotic protest" not a riot.
If they do this they set a precedent and so we should sue them right back for defamation of character with the lies of the J6 Committee.
This shows how desperate they have become. They know the J6 Committee was a farce and they may be punished legally for crimes they committed through it. This is a pathetic attempt to regain the initiative, nothing more.
The Supreme Court could just dismiss the whole thing. Sadly I fear John Roberts may be too chicken-hearted to do so.

Israel has launched over a hundred airstrikes and sent ground troops into Syria to clean out the remnants of terrorist groups after the fall of the Assad regime. Furthermore, it has struck at chemical weapons plants and other key military installations, and is establishing a "sterile zone" to protect itself.
so what happens next? This will leave a power vacuum that must be filled. Will the U.N. send in "peacekeepers" to shore up the country? Will Turkey move in? Israel cannot afford to allow the nation to fall into the hands of hard-core Islamists.
No doubt Iran is weighing their options. They would move in directly if they could but I doubt they can project power that way.
I don't know if most people understand the profound ramifications of the fall of Assad; the Assad family ruled Syria for fifty years and now are gone - and with them the whole political order of the region is turned upside-down. Lebanon was largely a protectorate of Syria, which stepped in during the civil war there, and it now has nobody holding it's leash. Israel would logically be the new Big Dog in the area except no Muslim will listen to Israel and they don't have the manpower to control the region.
I strongly suspect there will be a United Nations/NATO/EU coalition that will try to move in to stabilize things. Otherwise the Turks will try to annexx it, or at least to "stabilize" it with troops. The Kurds are the Turks mortal enemies and they will want to crush them now that Syria is no longer in their way.
How long before Biden mobilizes American "peacekeepers" to go into the region? I know; he said it's not our fight (and he's right) but he said he wouldn't pardon Hunter either.
This is a chaotic situation and likely to grow more chaotic as the different factions seek to grab this particular jump ball.

Fox News has been in a slow but steady decline for some time, but this court ruling is the final nail in the coffin of what had once been conservative news.
Rupert Murdoch Fails in Bid to Change Family Trust
Rupert Murdoch had created an irrevocable trust dividing control of his company between his four eldest children but wanted to change that and give control to his sole conservative kid - Lachlan. A Nevada judge ruled against Murdoch, so his company will be under the control of all four.
The administrative judge in the case said Murdoch was "acting in bad faith" by seeking to change the terms of a trust he himself set up. "In bad faith"? Is the company his property or is it not?
Murdoch could take this to an actual court of law, and failing that could help Lachlan buy out his siblings.
But one thing is certain; Fox is going to fray.
I am a frequent critic of Fox, but the fact remains it is the only real viable alternative to the mainstream media we currently have, and it has done more to advance our cause and restore America than anyone save Reagan and Rush Limbaugh. If Fox turns to the dark side we will be shut out from the public discourse again, as it was in the beginning. All our gains will be lost, alas.
So we have a powerful interest in the outcome of this affair.

A Black Lies Muttered, er, Black Lives Matter thug leader named Hawk Newsome (and he sure is hawking some b.s.) is calling for murder by his peeps over the acquittal of Daniel Penny.
According to the Blaze article Newsome called for "vigilantes" to choke white folks:
I seem to remember there are laws against inciting violence in this fashion. Why isn't this guy being arrested for it?
I caught Daniel Penny in an interview and he said "this isn't racial" by which he meant HIS actions weren't racial, and I have no doubt that is so. But it is ENTIRELY racial, the crusade to imprison him. What we are seeing these days is an attempt to force whites, especially white men, into the shadows, to arrest and abuse them for some twisted idea of payback for slavery and Jim Crow. And it only works because we turned black folks into a protected class, largely untouchable unless caught red-handed in some major criminal action. The authorities fear going after blacks, and the media coddles them.
The fact is a new peer-reviewed study shows that police officers are NOT more likely to shoot black suspects than whites.
The study, conducted by researchers at the University of Maryland , showed no correlation between the race of a police officer and the race of the perpetrator who was shot. Even the very liberal NPR was surprised the study made it into PNAS due to it not following the leftist script.
In fact the argument is made that BLACK officers are "biased against their own race" since they shoot blacks at the same rate as white cops. But what does that even mean? Cops are biased against rapists too when they rape a woman, aren't they?
The fact is blacks ARE shot more often than whites, but that is because they committ a disproportionate amount of crime and do it in a generally more aggressive way. A white criminal usually surrenders; many blacks do not, I might add.
All this argument is is a way to empower black leaders by eliminating policing and thus allowing thugs to run amok. I would add this is the way leftists traditionally take over countries; they dismantle civil authority then when chaos reigns provide the only alternative - a socialist state that will crush the criminals. Crime has long been a tool of the Left.
And that is what is happening with these BLM thugs; they are being empowered so as to torment the good citizens with the intent of establishing an authoritarian state.
It is regrettable when an innocent person is shot by cops, black or white. It happens to blacks more because they live in areas controlled by street thugs and thus are more likely to be in the line of fire, or to be mistakenly thought to be carrying a weapon. You used to see the same higher levels of police shootings of white people in Irish or Italian or other such areas back when these folks suffered with a strong criminal element.
To return to the BLM call for murder, how does that in any way improve the lot of any black person? All it does is double down on the criminality already causing so much suffering in the black community. Is it just a matter of pride for this creep? I would argue its pure racism, and if a white person said such a thing he would be prosecuted for it and unable to get a job or show his face in society after. But white people are fair gane these days, because, like "white privilege" and all.
Daniel Penny stopped an insane man from threatening and perhaps doing great harm to innocent folks on the subway, and that is grounds for the grievence industry to seek his destruction. His crime was basically walking while white.
if lynching a black man was wrong when it used to happen, isn't a legal lynching of a white man equally wrong? Does Newsome really hate white people that much? Many of those whom Penny protected were black themselves - and they were most grateful to him. He's a hero. But white people are just devils to guys like Newsome.
He really should look in a mirror if he wants to see who is the real devil.

We now have a name in the assassination of United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson - Luigi Mangione.
I want to know more about this fellow. Given his name one suspect Mafia ties.
Apparently Mangione was an U Penn graduate and hated capitalism. But was he being coerced into this?
According to The Blaze Mangione was born and raised in Maryland, where his family was rich and owned a couple of country clubs, lived in Honolulu, and had ties to San Francisco. He got a masters in computer science at the University of Pennsylvania.
Here's more from the BBC.
The point is only immigrants would name their kid Luigi in America. He is no doubt first generation Italian-American. That doesn't mean he's necessarily mobbed up any more than it does for an Irish-American but it certainly is a possibility. This is the kind of thing the Mafia would do if they had sufficient cause, and the way they would do it.
Mangione may have been an expendable, in which case he won't live long.
The New York Times says he has a criminal record in New York. Suggestive, no?
Whether it was hatred of capitalism (which gave him his gentrified lifestyle) or a personal vendetta or a mob hit, Mangione was clearly on the Left side of the spectrum, another spoiled brat rich kid who thought he could get himself out of any trouble.

Biden has to go out with a bang, literally, as he has U.S. aircraft striking targets inside of war-torn Syria ostensibly to fight ISIS but probably just because it's been a while since he's ordered an airstrike and wanted to look tough.
FTA:
""The strikes against the ISIS leaders, operatives, and camps were conducted as part of the ongoing mission to disrupt, degrade, and defeat ISIS, in order to prevent the terrorist group from conducting external operations and to ensure that ISIS does not seek to take advantage of the current situation to reconstitute in central Syria,” the news release said.
The release said B-52s, F-15s, and A-10s were used in the attacks.
The release there was no indication that civilians were killed in the attacks.
"There should be no doubt — we will not allow ISIS to reconstitute and take advantage of the current situation in Syria,” Gen. Michael Erik Kurilla said in the release. "All organizations in Syria should know that we will hold them accountable if they partner with or support ISIS in any way.”
end
Question; if we knew where these people were in the first place why didn't we strike before now? I mean, we waited until there was a clear power vacuum before moving, when we should have been going after ISIS before this. Either they posed a clear and present danger to us or they didn't.
Would they tell us if any civilians were killed? How would they even know?
No, I suspect this is a signal to other powers - notably Iran and Turkey and Russia - to stay away and let this play out on it's own.
Prudent perhaps but I hate the way Biden lies to us - and I also think we should stay out of it. Biden's attacks could actually escalate foreign involvement. Joe has been wrong on every single foreign policy issue throughout his life.
Biden has always been like the schoolyard bully's toadie; he acts tough but has no real courage and takes a free shot when opportunity presents. This is exactly his style.

The IRS enforcement division, you know, the guys who knock on your door in the dead of night, has recently expanded it's workforce by 11% According to the article, IRS-CI special agents, who are authorized to carry guns and use lethal force, now number 2,290 after a hiring spree added 146 employees to its ranks over the fiscal year.
They have been flush with cash thanks to Biden's Inflation Reduction Act.
In the interest of full disclosure, I have had problems with the IRS for a few years now, with them going after me for taxes prepared by our CPA accounting firm. They wouldn't even waive interest and penalties on a fine they socked me with for receiving too much on my return by their own mistake. I returned the money, which they sent me by mistake, but they still charged me! I doubt I'd have these kinds of problems if there weren't so many new IRS workers with their thumbs in the pie.
There is no way this massive buildup of IRS enforcers was ever going to be anything but a tool to harrass middle class folks. They didn't have enough work to do going after true criminals or real tax cheats.
When I called to speak to someone at the IRS I was hung up on by the first "customer service rep" after she told my wife to shut up and ONLY answer HER questions. She kept saying "I didn't ax you dat". When I got on and objected she hung up, and My cell phone couldn't call back without getting into a voice mail black hole. I switched to our land line and got through and spoke to a woman who seemed fine but when I asked for a receipt showing I had paid "in case this becomes a legal matter" she went ballistic, screaming at me that I was threatening her. I asked "how is that threatening you? I would ask for a receipt from Walmart if I purchased something, and it becomes a legal matter if I have to hire a tax lawyer." Eventually she calmed down but didn't solve my problem, just told me to send in a form requesting the penalties be dropped. After almost five months we got a new bill with the same charges - they refused to waive them, even though it was their mistake. I eventually had to pay them over six hundred bucks for their screwup.
I hate those bloodsuckers; as bad as any Mafia protection racket.
