The Texas Republican Governor jumped right into bed with the Chirants on this. And real people suffered thanks to this jerk. He needs to be punished.

Republicans are forever swept along by the engine of modernity aka the Democratic/Media/Academia alliance. Our side must stop playing footsie with these people. Abbott feared bad press so went along with an unconstitutional act and is only walking it back because he got bad press as a result. What did he think? Why do so many Republicans believe the media will treat them well if they cave in to them? Doesn't Abbott remember George H.W. Bush? Bush pledged "read my lips; no new taxes" and the Democrats begged him for a tax increase, pleading and promising "nobody will use this against you. Please, kind sir, for the good of the country!" Bush relented and these people who had been so kindly prodding him shrieked in triumph "AHA!" and rode the man out of office as an oath breaker.

The only way a Republican can get any sort of relief from the Media attacks is to roll over and let the Democrats have their way - and to keep rolling. Once is never enough.

Abbott is worse than a fool for having succumbed to this. He needs to be made an example of to make others realize the stupidity of doing such a thing.
