1 Don't waste your money, Tim. They'll f**k it up, all the way down to the physical description of the characters -- just like they always do. They won't even make it appear that they actually read the books.

As you say, it's a cerebral work. How are they gonna do that right?

2 Robert Heinlein's Starship Troopers, one of the best books ever written and one that I have read maybe ten times or more, was turned into a movie that was so bad I walked out halfway through.

3 Starship Troopers, by the way, posits a future in which only those who have successfully completed a tour of duty in government service are allowed to vote. That service need not be military, it can be administrative, but it must be completed. They are not allowed to vote while in service, including if they choose it as a lifelong career. They can only vote after they become private citizens again. Kind of seem like a system we should try.

4 I have no doubt Dana. As you say, even the physical descriptions will be wrong, and the characters unrecognizable. I suppose they'll make Trump The Mule, only much meaner.

5 Bill, I've not read Starship Troopers but I did see the movie and it really did smell like a bad fish that someone taped under a car.

I have always thought voting was far too easy in this country. It used to be restricted to white male landowners, but now anyone can vote. I have a mentally retarded nephew (well, Cathy's) and HE votes regularly. And since his mother is a college professor in Boston he pulls that lever for the Democrats every time. That was never what was intended for America. And his vote counts the same as mine - and yours.

6 I've heard Heinlein praised to the stars, and somehow never read any of his stuff. Guess I'd better get going. It's just that I spend so damn much time at this computer, badgering people on the Aviary, rather than reading. . .

9 I've never really read any Heinlen either Dana. I read a short story once but that was about it.

Heinlen was a superstar from the beginning. I read Isaac Asimov's The Early Asimov in which he discussed his writing career and he spoke quite highly of Heinlen, said Heinlen was the golden boy while he struggled to succeed and he was rather jealous of him. But in the end they both wound up being superstars.
