Jet fuel provides about 43 times more energy than the same weight of batteries.

The jet fuel for a 747 weighs 413,000 pounds.

So replacing that jet fuel with batteries would take 17.8 million pounds of batteries... about 18 times more weight than a fully loaded 747.

Forget about lift problems, such a beast couldn't even taxi.

Bottom line: The only way airlines have to reduce emissions is to fly less.

Not a very good business strategy.

1 Somewhere out there is a Democrat policy-maker who will push the idea of putting solar panels on the wings of airliners. Never mind that this would interfere with the aerodynamics of the wings -- that is way beyond the knowledge of Democrat policy-makers and therefore it's unimportant. Why not make the entire outer surface of the plane out of solar panels? Sure; what could possibly go wrong? Besides everything. . .

2 Maybe they can also have the passengers peddle a generator to produce power? After all, Bloomberg was so hot on making everyone exercise...
