The Subversive Screen
Communist Influence in Hollywood’s Golden
Age
Brian E. Birdnow
1 VOLUME
From the Great Depression through World War II, the American Communist
Party tried to take control of the motion picture industry. This comprehensive
and chronological account of Communist influence in Hollywood surveys the
topic from the Popular Front’s fight against Fascism during the 1930s to the
height of the House UnAmerican
Activities Committee hearings in the late
1940s.
Birdnow, an established historian and chronicler of domestic Communism,
outlines Communist International’s organizational efforts promoting
international communism, focusing on the work of Communist political
activists such as Willi Münzenberg, a media mogul with an international
network; Gerhart Eisler, patron of a Hollywood composer; and Otto Katz, a
highprofile
publicist of the party line involved in movies in the 1930s and
1940s.
The book explores the covert ways in which Hollywood Communists and
Soviet sympathizers attempted to tailor movie scripts to suit the Soviet
agenda and discusses Communist front groups such as the Hollywood AntiNazi
League in great detail. Final chapters offer convincing proof that the
directors, producers, and screenwriters blacklisted by studios for their
possible Communist affiliations, known as the Hollywood Ten, were
members of the Communist Party.
FEATURES
Gives readers insight into how the Communist Party used the creative
explosion in the movie industry to actively establish a foothold in the United
States
Draws a parallel between the rise of the Community Party and the rise of the motion picture industry in the United
States
Profiles Communist Party USA leaders close to Hollywood
Takes a closer look at the "Hollywood Ten,†detailing who each of the blacklisted individuals were and how their names

John Hawkins (Townhall) with some real wisdom! Some of them would almost be funny if they weren't so sad. I'm sure each of you will find one or two favorites.

Go here to read the summary report that the news media insists on calling a memo (as if Devin Nunes mentioned they were instituting "casual fridays" and, oh, by the way...)
Any reasonable person will know after reading this that there is a serious problem in our government.

Those of you who are familiar with handguns will smell a few fish in this story.
Seems to me like the Law of Highly Unlikely comes into play a couple of times at least.

With storied statues having come down from sea to shining sea the past year, it’s time for the same to happen with something somewhat newer: the socialist-born plaque in the Statue of Liberty’s pedestal.
Yeah, it’s the one with the "huddled masses†bit. There are good reasons for it to be removed, too — above and beyond the fact that our whole nation is being turned into a huddled mass.
The plaque contains the poem "The New Colossus,†written by socialist writer Emma Lazarus. It didn’t come with the statue, a gift from France unveiled in 1886, but was slapped on smack dab in the middle of the "Progressive Era†(in 1903). This was also the period that gave us other things as American as Lazarus’ poem, such as entry into WWI, the income tax and the notion that the Constitution could be considered a "living document†(Woodrow Wilson loved to bloviate about this).

"Failing to get traction on their Russia "collusion†front, Sen. Mark Warner and other top Democratic inquisitors now suggest President Trump is obstructing justice by forcing a shake-up at FBI headquarters. But FBI sources tell me [N.Y. Post writer Paul Sperry] the pressure to clean house is also coming from inside the bureau, and it’s based on real concerns over malfeasance by top brass there.
In a healthy sign, new FBI Director Christopher Wray is slowly but surely sweeping partisan operatives out of the bureau’s executive suites all on his own. On the job just a few months, Wray told Congress in December he wanted to wait and see the evidence before taking any action against high-level investigators accused of bias and misconduct. Over the weekend, he saw some of that evidence, and it convinced him to remove his own deputy, Andrew McCabe."
End excerpt.
True, Wray fiercely fought the release of the "Nunes Memo." He didn't want the problems at the FBI revealed to the general public, and were I in his shoes, I'm sure I'd feel the same way. But I'm sure he'll live with it.

If this is true, the FBI (soon to be renamed FIB) is a bigger can of worms than we have believed it to be. Fox News' Sara Carter is revealed as a darn good investigative journalist.

Can you think of a better way to say "Hey, we are irrelevant?"
In an amazing example of just how out of touch they were with the American people Tuesday, CNN prefaced the release of their very positive State of the Union reaction poll by claiming it wasn’t representative of the nation. "It's not representative of the country overall it is a poll of people who watched the speech. Well, who watches a State of the Union address? Fans of the person giving it,†declared Political Director David Chalian. more...

Ben Shapiro's take.
I think the money quote is this: "Because Democrats despise Trump so much, the chances of any sort of bipartisan deal are dead. On virtually everything. And that’s great news for Trump and conservatives, since Trump can now make virtually any concession to make himself look moderate, knowing Democrats will turn it down [emphasis mine]; meanwhile, conservatives don’t have to worry about Trump cutting a bad deal, because Democrats have no intention of cutting any deal."
So, if he offers up something WE don't like on the Dreamers, we don't need to worry because, according to Ben, the donkeys still won't take it. Ben's a pretty sharp dude, and if he's confident, maybe you and I should be too.
Tim's two cents:
It's true enough and I am pleased to see it, but then what of the REPUBLICANS who seem to want an amnesty as badly as the Democrats. Trump is still on record with this proposal, and his allies in Congress may well give it to him - and us.
I sure hope not.

Dana Mathewson writes:
Wherein John Hinderaker, of Power Line, rakes over Joe Kennedy III's response to SOTU. http://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2018/01/from-the-sublime-to-the-ridiculous.php
Check the photo and you'll love the quote: "Let’s just say that no Kennedy should ever give a speech standing in front of what appears to be a wrecked motor vehicle."
As well as some of the Tweets.
Hinderaker's quote at the end is deft and to-the-point: "The Democrats said they chose Joe Kennedy III to deliver their response because he represents the future of their party. If that is true, they are in deeper trouble than we thought."
