It looks like the Swamp Denizens won a big one – at least for the moment. Under intense pressure from Chuck Grassley and other corn belt senators, the White House and EPA have backed down on plans to reduce biodiesel mandates for the next year. We are IMPORTING the vast bulk of our biodiesel – but these Members of Congress still claim reduced quotas will mean fewer US jobs somewhere in the US biofuel industry … somehow. (They don’t mention that failure to back Big Biofuel to the hilt could also cost them in campaign contributions – but I do mention that salient fact in my article.)
My guess is that this battle will be renewed again next year, when Trump EPA nominations cannot be held hostage.

David Wojick has written a perceptive article that is especially important right now – because EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt is in the process of rescinding the Obama era Clean Power Plan … evaluating the prospect of establishing a "Red Team†to assess the scientific validity of many Obama EPA decisions and regulations … and considering the need to rescind the "Endangerment Finding.†That pseudo-scientific finding claimed that plant-fertilizing carbon dioxide causes dangerous climate change that endangers the health and welfare of all Americans.
As David notes, the Red Team approach could also be used to critique the deceptive and alarmist "Climate Science Special Report†that made extremely alarmist claims about what is supposedly happening with Earth’s climate and weather. The report blames nearly every climate shift and weather event on fossil fuel emissions. It is scheduled for final release in the near future, and could be treated by radical environmentalists, politicians and media outlets as dispositive on all climate issues … unless it is accompanied by a tough Red Team critique.
His timely article could have a significant impact on EPA and White House thinking on these topics. more...

The author lived like a rock star in a very famous family. And her dad greatly expanded what his father started. Her mother had, when single, dated, Howard Hughes and John F. Kennedy.
It's My Party: A Memoir– October 10, 2017
A quote from the book is given in an Amazon.com comment by a reader:
Jeannette Watson’s memoire ,"It’s My Party†serves, too, to remind us of a time not so long ago that bears little resemblance to our day. She’s written it with voice that’s intimate and leavened with anecdotes that reflect her mischievous whit. Here from a visit of Teddy Kennedy to the Watson family compound in Maine, " No sooner had we arrived ( at her room) than Teddy put his hand on my knee and asked, "How old were you when you started to enjoy sex?†I replied, "You know, Teddy it is interesting you should ask that question, as I was wondering what you were doing with all that amyl nitrate in your shaving kit.â€
END OF QUOTE
For those not familiar with this part of the hipster culture, amyl nitrate is a drug used to enhance sexual sensations. There were original medical applications, but with Ted Kennedy we can rule those out. I'm not going to buy the book to find out what Ted Kennedy did or did not do with the young Jeannette Watson. It's a good thing that he didn't take her for a drive off of a bridge.
From Wikipedia:
Like other alkyl nitrites, amyl nitrite is bioactive in mammals, being a vasodilator, which is the basis of its use as a prescription medicine. As an inhalant, it also has a psychoactive effect, which has led to its recreational use...

Doug Bandow, fellow at the CATO Institute, pens a strong essay at Conservative HQ in which he argues that war in Korea is not an option. I strongly disagree, not because I think it is a good option but because I fear it may be our only option. Doug seems to thinkk we can just walk away at this point. We can't.
Here is my reply to Bandow's essay:
Doug, normally a brilliant thinker, is wrong here; he believes we can just walk away from this and the problem will fade. Kim Jong Un isn't going to stop pursuing nukes; it's the key to his future and to maintaining power. And that is the key; our allies in the region can't simply build their own nukes, not when Kim is building ICBM's. He wants to threaten the U.S. so he can prove to the world and to his own people he can threaten the world's most powerful country. nuclear weapons in Japan aren't going to stop that.
Doug also fails to understand that N. Korea is being protected by both the Russians and chinese, who are using the Norks as a proxy to hurt the U.S. Just as in the old Soviet days we have to win in places like this, just as we fought the Soviets in Egypt, in Chile, in Iran, in Nicaragua and El Salvador. We managed to destroy the Soviet Union by doing this, and we can defeat the Chinese and Russians if we pursue a strategy similar to the one we employed then. And do not make the mistake of thinking China isn't pursuing a proxy war against us.
Withdrawal at this point will only embolden the Chinese and Russian. They - and the world - will see us as weakness.
Here's an article about the proxy war.
https://filipinojournal.com/u-s-china-proxy-war/weak.
Rearming Japan and arming S. Korea may have worked a decade ago, but not at this point.
Don't forget, too, that Iran and N. Korea share all of their efforts. Advancements by N. Korea mean advancements by Iran. We have to stop both of these twin serpent heads.
Distasteful and dangerous though it may be, we may have no choice at this stage. Our past Presidents and our amateur diplomats have left us with little choice.
Oh, and if Kim isn't suicidal then how do we force him to behave? Threats of war haven't worked, nor has diplomacy, nor economic sanctions. Kim is in a bind because he HAS to behave belligerantly or face being overthrown. It puts us in a bind as well, because there is little choice that gives us what we want, which is the end of the hermunculus' nuclear program. We will have to have international inspections and a strict zero tolerance policy. We can only impose that if we have a very big stick. Without the threat of invasion by the U.S. we won't get that. In fact, Kim cannot afford that at all lest he appear as weak as he really is.
War may well be our only option, or at least the brink of war. If anybody has a better idea now is the time to bring it forward.

Having watched the Russia, Russia, Russia routine for the past year, the articles included in this Laissez Faire letter of 10/18 offers information from several sources that collectively present a highly plausible explanation for the behavior of the destructive and anti-American Democrat Party as well as key GOP operatives such as Sessions, Bannon, and even President Trump. Personally, I believe Trump has been aware of the content in the various articles referenced by Laissez Faire well before he referred to "Crooked Hillary.â€
Laissez Faire Today is a part of a leading and highly respected investment advisory group called Agora Financial which justifies forwarding this edition of their daily letter without having personal validation of the content. I firmly believe that reading the article in the The Hill which is linked in the Loungo article is a must for anyone concerned about the Russian connections and/or the involvement of President Trump. The content is also consistent with the revelations from Sean Hannity in his radio and TV shows.
Hope all of you find these worthwhile,

State Dept. Claims it Has No Records of its Travel Loans to Refugees Who Need Plane Fare OCTOBER 16, 2017 In response to a Judicial Watch lawsuit, the State Department claims in alegal documentthat it has no records involving refugee travel loans that the agency gives foreigners overseas to buy plane tickets to fly to the United States. The program is operated by the International Organization for Migration (IOM), an intergovernmental group that assists refugees worldwide with hundreds of millions of dollars from Uncle Sam. The money is channeled through the State Department’s Bureau of Population, Refugees and Migration (PRM). In fiscal year 2016 the State Department gave IOM $477,257,564,according to the agency’s report on contributions to international organizations. That doesn’t even include millions more that the State Department gives the IOM for special refugee resettlement"platformsâ€that pop up throughout the year. On itswebsitethe IOM writes that it provides interest-free loans "furnished by the Department of State†to "all refugees arriving in the United States:†Judicial Watch launched an investigation into the refugee loan program and filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request with the State Department last year to uncover details. In the request Judicial Watch asked for all records from 2010 to 2016 reflecting the number of Refugee Travel Loans furnished by the State Department’s PRM to the IOM per year, the number of travel loans that are defaulted upon per year and the amount of money written off per defaulted loan. The State Department failed to respond to the FOIA request by the federally-mandated deadline and Judicial Watch filed alawsuitearlier this year. |

Once again, the Washington Post and the CBS "news†program 60 Minutes proved journalism is dead. 60 Minutes ran a very misleading program that attempted to pin the opioid epidemic on two members of the House of Representatives.
The truth is, this epidemic is a total government failure, just not the one 60 Minutes focused on to do with Drug Enforcement Agency distributor license suspensions, which now require Attorney General approval under a new law passed by Congress. The real problem is that multiple presidents, leaders in Congress and thousands of council members have failed in their most basic duty to protect the American people from heroin that has been coming across the southern border from Mexico.
The issue raised by the report is a worthy issue. The U.S. is currently in the midst of an opioid crisis that threatens to kill more Americans per year than many U.S. wars. more...
