Liberals want to throw out the Constitution.
The author doesn’t point out is that the progressives/libs/dimocrats have so distorted government that it does not follow the constitution. Having them design a new constitution would make us a shithole. Of course what would you expect to come from assholes.
A NOTE FROM TIM:
If our constitution is so bad why is everyone trying to come here? We have an awful lot of people trying to get into this shithole country. They aren't coming for the music or the cuisine...
I find the claim that our constitution will fall to the same problems of other such constitutions; ours is very different, holding a series of "negative liberties" as opposed to defining what rights and privileges we enjoy. It is a chain for government, not for the People. All other such documents that have failed have been the latter.
This gets me, Wil:
"Bipartisan compromises to keep government functioning used to be common, but are near-impossible anymore due to extreme party polarization. So as Michael Kinnucan points out, during divided government "there is de facto no legislative body."
Apparently The Nation doesn't understand that that was precisely the idea; to deadlock government so it could not run roughshod over the country. The polarization the author bemoans is a direct result of liberals refusing to obey the founding documents and accept the limits imposed on government.
And that crazy scheme about changing the House? If he thinks there is gridlock now what does he think when Congressional districts are represented by multiple parties? What a fool!
Further, his call to make us a Parliamentary republic, with the President coming out of the House, simply ignores the whole point of Federalism. We separate these functions in no small part to promote the States, not Congress. It was why we had the Senate elected by state legislatures. Notice this jerk did not call for a repeal of the 17th amendment, but rather to scrap the Federal system and replace it with a parliament. That necessarily means the elimination of individual states as governing bodies except as a sort of local authority.
Oh, and who will write this new constitution the author wants? Is Chuck Schumer the next Thomas Jefferson? Nancy Pelosi the equivalent of James Madison? With the current crop of popinjays and self-seeking scoundrels, with the current radical leftists and crooks and mentally ill (but I repeat myself) liberals, who is going to rewrite our founding document?
Of course, this is the Cloward Piven strategy; the Left have overloaded the system and used the resulting chaos to demand not a return to normalcy but to a revolution. They make a huge problem and then offer a radical "fix" that, surprise, surprise, empowers them.
