She’s written it with voice that’s intimate and leavened with anecdotes that reflect her mischievous whit. Here from a visit of Teddy Kennedy to the Watson family compound in Maine, " No sooner had we arrived ( at her room) than Teddy put his hand on my knee and asked, "How old were you when you started to enjoy sex?†I replied, "You know, Teddy it is interesting you should ask that question, as I was wondering what you were doing with all that amyl nitrate in your shaving kit.â€

For those not familiar with this part of the hipster culture, amyl nitrate is a drug used to enhance sexual sensations. There were original medical applications, but with Ted Kennedy we can rule those out. I'm not going to buy the book to find out what Ted Kennedy did or did not do with the young Jeannette Watson. It's a good thing that he didn't take her for a drive off of a bridge.
