A little personal virtue-signalling

Dana Mathewson

I'm old enough to remember when neighbors acted like neighbors no matter what their political persuasion was. Heck, I'm so old that I can remember when you could buy pasteurized, by which they meant non-homogenized, milk in grocery stores.

Anyhow, in my neighborhood there have been few signs touting candidates decorating lawns this season, nor were there last season. As a Republican, I'm rather saddened to report that there are two groups of Democrat signs on my side of the street, and they are both in front of homes where live ladies who are good friends to my wife and myself. We don't discuss politics with them, and everyone is happy enough. If they want to spend money buying Joe Biden For President signs, it's their privilege to do so.

So when, a few days ago, while returning from my afternoon walk with my dog, I saw four boys, whom I judged to be probably just into their teens, walking south toward me, I initially paid no attention, until one of them, the only white among three blacks, suddenly veered over to my neighbor's lawn, grabbed her Biden sign, dashed across the street to bushes at the end of the apartment complex, soon to re-emerge without the sign, met with his cronies and they disappeared. They had ignored me all this time.

Well! I took Bijou home, then went to the bushes, found the sign, took it back to the lady's lawn and put it back in place; then I phoned her and told her what had happened. "What? Again?" she said, amazed. It was the second time that day some kid had messed with her Biden sign! Her signs were in front of her garage where she couldn't see them from the house, and she decided to put the Biden sign right in front of her living room window. Problem solved, and she thanked me. I then called the other Democrat sign-displaying neighbor and suggested she check her Biden sign; it was OK.

I couldn't help wondering what would happen to our place if we had a Trump sign our? Broken windows? Keyed cars, if they were out? The adults in this neighborhood are all OK as far as I know, but these days, who knows, really?

Never thought I'd have to be a hall monitor! And for a brain-dead candidate on the other side. Sheesh!

Christian actress warns Christian followers about an 'onslaught' of ignorance as Supreme Court debate looms

Dana Mathewson

Wow! I wasn't aware that there were any Christian actresses in Hollywood, though I knew there were some actors who weren't afraid to let their orientation be known; Jon Voight, for one. This is refreshing, and she doesn't hesitate to lay it on the line.

Patricia Heaton told her fellow Christian followers on social media to prepare for an "onslaught of arrogant pronouncements” in the coming days from people who are ignorant of religion.

The "Everybody Loves Raymond” actress took to Twitter on Sunday to make her declaration, bracing her followers for "breathtaking ignorance” as the world of politics heats up ahead of the November election.

"Friends, be prepared for social media to be filled with an onslaught of arrogant pronouncements based on breathtaking ignorance of religion in general, Christianity specifically and Catholicism in particularly by people who wouldn’t recognize God if He bit them on the bum,” she tweeted.

Although the "The Middle” actress didn’t specify what she was talking about, she’s likely referencing the debate between Democrats and Republicans about filling the late Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s vacant spot on the Supreme Court. In addition to squabbles about whether or not President Trump should push through a replacement now or wait until the results of the November election, debates over Supreme Court seats often hinge for many on a potential candidate's stance on abortion. That topic typically invites religion into the conversation.

I think it's very easy to tell what she's talking about!

Lying and Cheating

This from Richard Cronin:

The Delaware Democrats rammed thru mail-in ballots legislation in spite of the State House Speaker Pete Schwartzkopf (D) assuring Republicans that he would not do so in the current term. Lying thug. Typical for a Democrat.

From a fellow Delawarean, La Mar Gunn Sr. -

"What all voters in the Delaware primary should be concerned with, is that the Delaware Department of Elections intentionally waived the safeguards that protect against fraud in vote-by-mail and vote-by-email. This convenient lax of the rules was shared with one particular camp and they took full advantage of it. Most troubling after meeting with the DOE for several hours is that the Delaware Department of Elections has zero evidence that residences were verified for regular mail or email voting. Tell me how in one of the most important election cycles this happens? Have a look at the candidates who won the mail/email/

absentee votes by large numbers and you will know where the 22 fake-out began. "As a practical matter, there must be a substantial regulation of elections if they are to be fair and honest and in some sort of order, rather than chaos, is to accompany the democratic process," Storer v. Brown, 415 U.S. 724, 730 (1974) smh

Latest in Race Fakery

Dana Mathewson

First there was Rachel Dolezal, and for a time she was all alone on the dungheap. Then, a short time ago, Jessica Krug showed up. Now it appears the dam has broken.

Steven Hayward writes in Power Line:

We’ve reported here previously on the case of George Washington University history professor Jessica Krug, who was forced to resign her tenured position when she was exposed for claiming to be black when she is, and has always been, white. For this she was awarded our brand new Rachel Dolezal Award for Race Fakery.

Looks like we’re going to have to order more award statues from Chy-na because more such cases of race fakery are starting to stack up like cordwood. We reported that a similar case had emerged at the University of Wisconsin in the case of CV Vitolo-Haddad, and now Vitolo-Haddad followed the example of Krug and has resigned, though her explanation is full of the usual post-modernist gobbledygook:

"In trying to make sense of my experiences with race, I grossly misstepped,” Vitolo-Haddad wrote in a September 8 article on the blogging platform Medium. "I went along with however people saw me. I over-identified with unreliable and unproven family history and latched onto anything I remembered growing up.”

Expressing deep regret to those "I deceived by inserting myself into Black organizing spaces I didn’t belong in,” Vitolo-Haddad called the deception "parasitic and harmful.”They [Haddad prefers "they” as her pronoun, of course] went on to realise that "perception is not reality” and "ace is not flat” but a "social construct rife with contradictions.”

Oh-kay. Meanwhile, there’s a new case out of Indianapolis. The Star reports:

Satchuel Cole, a highly visible community leader advocating for racial and social justice in Indiana, has apologized for misleading people about Cole’s own race, saying "I have taken up space as a Black person while knowing I am white.”

Cole — who uses pronouns they/them — worked with Indy10 Black Lives Matter and Indy SURJ, apologized and admitted lying in a social media post. Cole, who also was active in the LGBTQ community, did not respond to multiple phone messages and emails from Indy Star this week.

"Friends, I need to take accountability for my actions and the harm that I have done. My deception and lies have hurt those I care most about. I have taken up space as a Black person while knowing I am white. I have used Blackness when it was not mine to use. I have asked for support and energy as a Black person. I have caused harm to the city, friends and the work that I held so dear,” Cole posted on a Facebook page under the name Satch Paige.

[...]

Exit question: If your gender is a matter of choice and is "fluid,” and if race is a "social construct,” why can’t you choose your race, too?

This is a great article and I urge you to read it (found here  https://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2020/09/the-latest-in-leftist-fakery.php), but don't have a mug of coffee (or whatever) in your hand: Hayward writes with a delicious amount of snark.

Disarm Cops of "Weapons of War"?

Timothy Birdnow

Senator Markey Says Police Must be Disarmed of all "Weapons of War" Including Tear Gas and Rubber Bullets

Funny; when conservatives were worried about the militarization of the police the Democrats said nothing. Now that it doesn't suit them they are angry about it and want to disarm them.

If they had kept the powers of the State, including police authority, within it's proper sphere we wouldn't be having this discussion. But they simultaneously changed the mission of peace authorities, making them do the work of military, and at the same time empowered criminals and weakened social prohibitions against criminality.

They made this whole mess.

On the Thurmond Rule and the Right to Choose

This from Steven Chase:

Historically, throughout American history, when their party controls the Senate, presidents get to fill Supreme Court vacancies at any time — even in a presidential election year, even in a lame-duck session after the election, even after defeat. Historically, when the opposite party controls the Senate, the Senate gets to block Supreme Court nominees sent up in a presidential election year, and hold the seat open for the winner. Both of those precedents are settled by experience as old as the republic. Republicans should not create a brand-new precedent to deviate from them. A president can always make a nomination for a Supreme Court vacancy, no matter how late in his term or how many times he has been turned down; the only thing in his way is the Senate.

Tim adds:

The Thurmond Rule was merely a gentleman's agreement. As the Democrats have proven time and again they are no gentlemen (changing the Senate filibuster rules, impeaching a President in an election year) there is no reason why the GOP should feel bound by it.

I would point out that the Democrats demanded they discard the Thurmond Rule when Obama tried to appoint his pick, and they raged against McConnell for not bringing Merrick Garland up for a vote DESPITE the agreement. So now that it works in their favor they WANT to keep the rule? Well, they already broke so many agreements already there is no reason to play nice anymore.

Be careful what you wish for; you might get it. The Democrats demanded the Thurmond Rule be abolished; now it has.

They impeached Trump during an election year and wouldn't allow the GOP to call their own witnesses before the House committee, for instance.

Now they want fairness? You can't make deals with snakes or scorpions.

Wrong Wray

Timothy Birdnow

Christopher Wray was the biggest mistake Trump ever made.

FBI director says antifa is an ideology, not an organization

This is what we call Deconstructionism. Or Newspeak. He is redefining the meaning of "Organization". He knows full well that it is organized, that it is funded, that it has core leadership.

Would they treat any so-called "right wing" group like this? The Klan, perhaps?  The Klan is organized in about the same way.

Or what of the Mafia? Most Mafiosa are private contractors. So is the Mafia not "organized crime"?

So Wray won't go after Antifa or Black Lives Matter. But he is recycling the "Russian Collusion" meme.

This guy is the filthiest of Deep State swamp rats.

Why Wait?

Warner Todd Huston

There is no logic whatever in a president taking a pass on filling a Supreme Court position. All the arguments do not hold water.

1). It's too close to the election and we should let the one who wins in Nov. pick the next SCOTUS.... Why? The president we have now WON the election. And if he wins in Nov., too, we just wasted X number of months.

2). Trump didn't win the majority of votes in 2016, so we should wait until we seen who gets elected in Nov.... Invalid. Bush and Clinton did not win with clear majorities either. Should we have disallowed either of them to ever pick a judge? And what if Biden wins the election, but not with a clear majority? Should he not be allowed to fill the position and we go 4 years without a judge in that sat?

3). Trump should not be allowed to get another SCOTUS pick because he has used his picks to place "extremist conservatives" on the court.... so what? Every Democrat going back to FDR has placed extremist leftists on the courts. No one ever said that wasn't their prerogative.

We elect a president for his agenda. Trump is in office now. He was put there because enough people agreed with his agenda. He has every right to push another SCOTUS pick right away. And if he were a Democrat, he'd still have that right.

4). But, but Ruthie asked that her position go unfilled until after the election! Yeah? Who gives a crap? Her "request" is meaningless and holds no sway or force of law. Her wants and needs are utterly irrelevant in every way possible.

On the Death of RBG

Timothy Birdnow

Now that Ruth Bader Ginsburg has assumed room temperature and is prepping for a worm banquet, we must look to the prospects of her replacement.

What should be done?

Trump and McConnell need to move quickly and decisively.

There was a guy who took the throne of England named Harold Harefoot. They called him that because he moved so fast to make himself king that nobody had time to lay an alternative claim. We need that now.

Trump needs to nominate a rock-ribbed conservative jurist. Now is not the time to send up a lukewarmer. Why? First, a number of Senate Republicans are going to want to wait until after the election; that cedes the field to the Donkeys. This has enormous political leverage if it is handled properly. It will dominate the news cycle. A quick nomination of a solid Conservative will set Democrat heads to explode, and in the process help reveal them to the public as the radicals and hate-mongers they are. The public has forgotten, and this will be a good refresher. The Democrats don't want this fight now. They don't want to remind the public that the Supreme Court is up for grabs. They also don't want to drown out Hidin' Biden's carefully crafted message. This will do all of that. This will make Biden disappear into the woodwork even further, while it will bring Trump to the fore. Trump will be in the middle of this fight. Biden will either have to remain silent or get drawn out of the attic he's inhabiting with his rocking chair.

Frankly, the nastier this fight is the better.

The Democrats won't be able to control this. And it will expose their radicalism in a new and fundamental way.

I don't see any way Trump will get a pick through the RINO Senate, not with Susan Collins, Mitt Romney, and perhaps Lindsay Graham not wanting to vote before the election. But Trump ought to make the nomination and fight.

And then if he gets it before the election so much the better.

RBG wouldn't retire when she had the chance. She waited too long and now may have cost her party the election.

That is, if the Republicans don't screw this up, which I have every reason to believe they will.

One final thought; this election is going to be hotly contested and likely will wind up in SCOTUS. This loss was absolutely critical for the Democrats. But if the Sups remain tied at 4 to 4? We need a conservative justice and a majority to prevent the Left from stealing this election. Right now, with Mr. Roberts riding that fence like a rodeo cowboy, there is real danger they will succeed at stealing America. Replace Dr. Ruth Bader Ginsberg is God's gift to this nation.

RBG Meddles with the Selection of Her Replacement

Willis Eschenbach makes the following observation:

I just found out that Justice Ginsburg dictated the following statement before her death: "My most fervent wish is that I will not be replaced until a new president is installed."

BZZZT!

That is most improper and underhanded. Sorry, RBG. You got to be a Supreme Court Justice ... but by all that is holy, you do NOT get to have a say in the choice of your successor.

Be satisfied with what you achieved, Madam. Such political greed on your part is unseemly. You led a good life. You don't get to push people around after you are dead.

I especially don't like making it as a dying plea, playing on everyone's heartstrings ... that's dirty pool.

Sorry, good Lady, but I defy and totally reject your dying request. It is most unworthy of you. You were better than that. That is our choice to make, not yours.

In order to not stain your memory, I think I'll just pretend you didn't attempt such an ugly power play as to try to leverage your own death for crass political gain.

"Nudging" Americans

Timothy Birdnow

Here  is an article from Natural News from back in August. It is about how the government will force compliance with a vaccination order for the new Covid 19 vaccine and, based on research by Harvard, how to market the "too big to fail" drug to the public.

I thought it worth repeating now as they are using many of the tactics suggested by the University of record.

For example:

Personal freedom message

This tactic tried to convince participants that COVID-19 is limiting people's personal freedom (even though government and institutional leaders are the ones restricting freedoms and imposing arbitrary controls). By working together to get enough people vaccinated, society can preserve its personal freedom, according to the message.

Economic freedom message

This tactic tried to convince participants that COVID-19 is limiting people’s economic freedom and instructed that all people work together by vaccinating.

Self-interest message

This message is about convincing people that COVID-19 presents a real danger to one's health, that their immune system is incapable and there’s nothing anyone can do to stop it, no matter if they are young and healthy. Getting the vaccine is the best thing you can do to keep yourself safe.

Community interest message

This message tried to manipulate participants into feeling false guilt for spreading covid-19 infections they don’t have - infections that would most definitely kill their loved ones and the elderly in the community.

Economic benefit message

This message tried to convince people that the only way to boost the economy is to get vaccinated.

Guilt message

This message appealed to one’s guilt, stating that the health of one's family and community is at risk as long as the majority are not vaccinated. Without the vaccine, everyone spreads infections they do not have. The vaccine science will only work if everyone complies.

Anger message

This message teaches the participant to be angry at those who do not vaccinate because they are putting the health of the community at risk. Anyone who doesn’t comply is an enemy, killing others.

We are now seeing almost all of this put into practice.

At any rate, take what you will from this.

A while back Progressive Cass Sunstein (Samantha Powers' husband) wrote a book called "Nudge" in which he said the government should nudge people in the way they should go (because he figures people are too stupid to know what is best for themselves). Of course, if nudging doesn't work then they have to take sterner measures.

This is clearly the nudging stage.

The Simple Life

Timothy Birdnow

It was a strange experience.

I haven't been to the Ozark Hilton, that fabled place of\ mystery and intrigue hidden in the mists of the Ozark Mountains. When the white man first arrived in this most ancient of mountains there were Native Americans who would hunt in this area - but they wouldn't live here. Why? They said it was haunted.

Perhaps they had better sense; certainly they had better sense than a particularly pasty white guy who is trying to live part-time in a house made of junk in those woods.

On the way down I made my regular stop. It's not a matter of choice; my body insists. That stop is an outhouse in St. Froicois State Park. I mean outhouse; big hole, bad smell, campers with very poor aiming skills. For reasons beyond my comprehension I have to go BAD whenever I pass this accursed place. I want to start a petition to name the outhouse in my honor; I am far and away it's best customer. The trip down was no exception. I know that outhouse like the back of my hand at this point.

At any rate, I arrived at the turnoff to my cabin but couldn't find the drive. Apparently MODOT decided that putting a cutoff from their road to my property obligated me to maintain the strip of land which they still own. It was all overgrown with weeds, and I couldn't see where the turn came in. This was critical because if I turned at the wrong place I'd drive into the ditch and get stuck.I had to make a full stop on the state highway and inch along. While the road isn't very busy at all (this is the backwoods) still cars drive sixty miles an hour along this road. One fellow coming the other way slowed up and blared his horn. Eventually I found my entrance and didn't fall into a deep ditch, so what the heck.

I'll tell you what the heck; two thirds of the way down the logging trail I use as a driveway a massive tree had fallen, completely blocking the road. There was no way around it. I had just had a tree fall and block the end of the road a short while back, but I could detour around it. This was different; I'll either have to try to cut it up (a major chore) or remove a bunch of young saplings.

At any rate, I did have enough room to turn the pickup around, so I wasn't in danger of being stuck. I had to huff it with all my stuff the rest of the way, not an easy feat considering I had to walk around the fallen tree and a bunch of brush.

I was just taking my stuff (I can't call beer and Cheetos gear exactly) up the path onto the porch when I noticed THINGS on my barbeque pit. They were wasps...HUGE wasps! I mean these things were the size of my thumb at a minimum. And there were at least ten sitting on the top of that pit.

Now I haven't seen any wasps at all there this season. None. Now I have a bunch of mutants right there on the approach to the cabin. Several of them turned and gave me the stink-eye, and I knew if I approached to closely they would buzz me in warning, and if I persisted I would get stung up. I didn't have the safety of the truck to rely on either. Sadly, I am not at the top of the food chain in this place.

So I had to detour around to come in from the other side, stepping in a hole and twisting my ankle at one point. It wasn't too bad but I had to stay off of it as much as possible for the rest of my stay. And there was no leaving the porch lest my friends become upset.

I was lucky; they were black wasps, ugly thoguh they be; red wasps would have attacked me the minute I got too close. Black wasps are better-natured. I don't know about these ugly mutants though.

So that ruined my plan to work on the porch (or much of anything else.) I wound up sitting on said porch the rest of the day.

There was something surreal about the place. I can't put my finger on it, but for the first time I felt I shouldn't be there.

Then my cell phone disappeared. I was servicing my kerosene lights, getting ready for nightfall when I received a robocall from a doctor's office confirming Cathy's appointment. I set the phone down and it was gone when I looked for it later. Just gone. I spent the rest of the night and the next morning tearing the cabin apart looking for it. No dice. Either some critter toted it away (and they're probably ordering gift platters from Hickory Farms, or at least getting from Grub Hub) or it fell off the table (which is a bit wobbly) and managed a million to one shot, falling in a crack between the porch and the cabin. I can't imagine it happened, but it is the only possibility.

At any rate, the wasps were gone the next morning, which was a pleasant surprise. I still had to bushwhack my stuff to the truck. I didn't pick up a single tick, fortunately! That is truly amazing in that place. But I don't know about chiggers; I'll find out in a day or so. I usually hit at least one bad patch of chiggers whenever I bushwhack.

I was glad to get up onto the state road, and even happier to get home, where I took a long, needed nap. In the summer I usually close up the "inner cabin" and inhabit the add-on, which is brighter and has better bathroom access (just open the door) but the downside is I sleep in a chair with no foot rest. It does not make for restful sleep.

Anyway, I had to go to Target and buy a new phone. Fortunately for me I have simple tastes (well, I can't see well enough up close to use all the gadgets on an I-phone) so it was relatively inexpensive. I hope the critters don't run up a bunch of long-distance charges on my old one.

Oh, I forgot to mention the alarm went off on my Ford F150 at six a.m.; had to go out and turn it off. I hadnt set it and can't for the life of me figure out how it happened (it never goes off). As I say, it was a wierd trip.

Where are the Police?

Timothy Birdnow

We all know Progressives lack self-awareness, but this is ridiculous.

Minneapolis City Council asks "where are the police?” – just months after calling to defund them

According to MPD crime statistics, the amount of recorded violent crimes such as assaults, thefts and homicides is up relative to 2019. In the first nine months of 2020, more people have been killed in the area than killed in all of last year.

But it’s not just crimes akin to violence that are on the rise – property crimes have increased as well in the vain of car thefts and residential burglaries. With little surprise, cases of arson have increased by 55% when looking at the number of arson reports in 2019 up to this point.

pic.twitter.com/2ScpINjvOS

— JB0304 (@jbooth304) September 16, 2020

Chief Arradondo did respond to the inquiries levied by the council, noting that the MPD is working to shift more officers onto patrol duties and investigations as well as trying to crack down on the robberies being reported.

But Council President Lisa Bender implied that officers from the MPD are basically intentionally ignoring calls for assistance when crimes are being reported.

I've Always Thought So

Timothy Birdnow

Well, I've always suspected as much...

New Report Confirms: Recycling is B.S.

Logic has always told me that was the case; trash companies don't separate the trash at the fill site. If there was any benefit to recycling to them they would have a guy pick through the arrivals. That they don't said it was not profitable.

Why not incinerate? We could burn plastic to run generators and kill two birds with one stone.
