Students Save Serra Statue

Timothy Birdnow

Catholic  students surrounded a statue of St. Juniper Serra to protect it from being knocked down by BLM iconoclasts.

From Lifesitenews:

The anti-Serra demonstrators had put out a call on social media for the June 20 event that began at 1 PM. Calling the event "Tear down Junipero Serra,” the demonstrators stated that "No longer shall we celebrate the enslavement, rape, and genocide of the original people of Ventura.”

[...]

But, thanks to the saint’s new bodyguard of dozens of young Catholics, including a priest, the city’s Serra statue was not toppled. Padre Serra continued to gaze out over Ventura from his place in front of City Hall as the sun went down Saturday evening.

Prior to the 1 PM demonstration, dozens of pro-Serra activists had surrounded the statue to protect it from the vandals. As the rally began, they stood quietly, some holding signs reading "Save Serra,” some praying.

1619 Project Founder Called White People "Devils"

This from Tim McNabb:

Racism goes both ways. This woman created an effort to change the premises of our founding, using a variety of demonstrable falsehoods. She is a racist liar, and yet our elite media gave her a platform that is being used by schools.

NYT "1619 Project" Founder Called Whites "Barbaric Devils" "Bloodsuckers" in Resurfaced 1995 Letter

New York Times writer Nikole Hannah-Jones is facing a new round of scrutinyafter a racist letter to the editor she wrote in 1995 has surfaced online. The author, who was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for her work on the Times' "1619 Project," penned the letter for Notre Dame's The Observer.

In it, Hannah-Jones concluded, "the white race is the biggest murderer, rapist, pillager, and thief of the modern world."

While the letter made frequent reference to the alleged sins of white explorers and settlers from Europe, which she called "acts of devils," her condemnation of white people was anything but confined to past centuries.

"The descendants of these savage people pump drugs and guns into the Black community, pack Black people into the squalor of segregated urban ghettos and continue to be bloodsuckers in our community," she writes.

The letter, which equates the actions of white people to Hitler, also claims that Africans were working in harmony alongside indigenous people in America centuries before Europeans arrived to instigate, "the destruction and enslavement of two races of people."

Who's actually counting, and how? And why?

Dana Mathewson

From Power Line:

Currently the Centers for Disease Control says there have been 121,809 COVID-19 deaths in the U.S. Most people, seeing that figure or reading newspaper headlines about Wuhan virus deaths, assume that means that in 121,809 cases, COVID-19 has been the cause of death. But that isn’t true at all.

This Issues & Insights editorial does a good job of bringing together some of the relevant data. But let’s start with something they didn’t mention: this acknowledgement by the Director of the Illinois Department of Public Health:

I just want to be clear in terms of the definition of people dying of COVID. So, the case definition is very simplistic. It means that at the time of death it was a COVID-positive diagnosis. So that means if you were in hospice and had already been given, you know, a few weeks to live and then you were also found to have COVID, that would be counted as a COVID death. It means that if, technically, even if you died of a clear alternate cause but you had COVID at the same time it’s still listed as a COVID death. So, everyone that’s listed as a COVID death doesn’t mean that that was the cause of the death, but they had COVID at the time of death.

That certainly is clarifying. We also know that some doctors have complained about being pressured to list COVID-19 as a cause of death, perhaps because the CARES Act provides a 20% Medicare bonus for COVID patients. And most recorded COVID-19 fatalities are elderly people with one or more co-morbidities.

The I & I editorial has more. Links are omitted:

The deaths now attributed to COVID-19 might be grossly exaggerated. The evidence is substantial, and has been obvious for weeks. …

Dr. Deborah Birx, the respected physician who heads the Trump administration’s coronavirus team, reportedly argued back in May at a closed Centers for Disease Control meeting that the agency’s death estimates were 25% too high, according to a Washington Post report.

Anecdotal evidence at the state level suggests this is true. In fact, estimates may be off by more than 25%.

A review of Minnesota deaths through late May, for instance, found that of 741 registered COVID-19 deaths, fewer than 41% listed it as a "primary cause.” …

How could this happen?

In most U.S. jurisdictions, unlike many other countries, if someone dies with COVID-19, that becomes the cause of death for official purposes. That’s true even if it didn’t technically "cause” the person’s death.
***
In California, San Diego County Supervisor Jim Desmond investigated 194 COVID-19 deaths through mid-May and found that only six could be clearly claimed as caused by COVID-19. "We’ve unfortunately had six pure, solely coronavirus deaths — six out of 3.3 million people,” said Desmond.

Washington state reported that at least five of its then 828 COVID-19 deaths were actually due to gunshot wounds. Pennsylvania had to remove "hundreds of deaths” from its tally for misreporting the actual causes.

Same thing in Colorado, where a man found dead in a park with a 0.55% alcohol blood level was declared a COVID-19 victim.

The CDC has a huge institutional interest in maximizing the COVID problem, but it admits that the fatality numbers are misleading:

The Centers for Disease Control admits as much in its June 24 update of the data:

"For 7% of the deaths, COVID-19 was the only cause mentioned.”

You read that right: not 97%, 7%.

"For deaths with conditions or causes in addition to COVID-19, on average, there were 2.5 additional conditions or causes per death.”

Please read the rest, found here: https://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2020/06/how-many-covid-deaths-are-there-really.php for suggestions as to why this was all done and prognostications for the future.

Arguing with Idiots: Global Warming Propaganda Edition

Timothy Birdnow

(Special thanks to Dr. Roy Spencer for kindly providing a much-needed link to a paper refuting the "consensus" claim.)

Here is an argument I had on Facebook. Sheesh!:

Jane:

"We aren’t a nation of know-nothings; many, probably most Americans are willing to listen to experts and act responsibly. But there’s a belligerent faction within our society that refuses to acknowledge inconvenient or uncomfortable facts, preferring to believe that experts are somehow conspiring against them."

A Plague of Willful Ignorance

I replied:

But who decides which experts Americans are to listen to? There are any number of medical researchers who didn't think the Nouvelle Coronavirus was going to turn into a pandemic on the scale of the 1918 bug, but they weren't "sexy" enough so the media largely ignored them. And the media regularly ignores the vast number of climate scientists who say carbon dioxide probably has raised planetary temperatures by a small degree but that it is hardly a doomsday scenario. There are a LOT of those people - climatologists,

meteorologists, geophysicists, etc. who disagree with the alarmists. But the media doesn't tell you about those. Also, it should be pointed out that "experts" are now often basically shills for the government and have been ever since the Feds took over most funding of research at the end of the '70's. They are paying, and will get the results they want or cut funding. Here is a partial list of scientists who disagree with the so-called "concensus" on climate change. It used to be on Wikipedia but the page has been disappeared. I know a number of these people, by the way. https:// www.iceagenow.co m/ Climatologists_W ho_Disagree.htmAs Joanne Simpson said when she retired from NASA, she was under enormous pressure to conform with the official dogma on climate change. She did, too, because she could ill-afford to lose her job. Look at the Climategate e-mails. They openly discuss bullying editors, boycotting journals, blacklisting scientists, etc. When discussing any scientific topic experts on both sides of an issue should be consulted. But our news media doesn't do that.

Jane replies:

I do my own research and go with the most credible information I can find. I look at science sources, not Fox News, or MSNBC.

Me again:

So do I Jane. That is the way it should be done. And everyone should always try to read both sides or an issue so as to know what the debate is about.

Again Jane:

Here is my other thought. If you have been following the news around the world, you have obviously seen what has happened in other countries, why would it be any different or a conspiracy when it reaches here?

Margo tosses her 2p in:

According to nasa-97% of climate scientists believe in global warming caused by human activity. One degree change in temp is massive -2 degrees is catastrophic. Twenty years ago my husband & I visited Alaska. Sixty five miles of Glacier Bay existed because of melted icebergs. It’s happening & could threaten human existence.

I respond:

Jane, much of my news COMES from overseas because the American media does a terrible job covering the news. But it should be pointed out that the forces of collectivism are at work in multiple countries and indeed fostered by the United Nations. All ships sail in the same direction. And the multinational corporations are all on board with it because they make their money from world markets and like the idea of a big open world. That doesn't mean it's good for America or for anyone for that matter. It's largely good for big money and these international organizations and for the Universities which promote some utterly ridiculous notions these days.

Margo  based on what? James Hansen at Goddard was an activist for decades and he promoted AGW theory over the objections of a lot of people Joanna Simpson, who I already mentioned, was one such. Where does that 97% concesus claim come from? TWO sources - Naomi Oreskes, an historian who ran a rather dubious title search on papers and abstracts and found that there was no openly stated disagreement with global warming theory (as if anyone would put such a thing in the title) and Jim Cook, the activist who runs the horribly misnamed "skeptical science" propaganda blog (fake news site) who did a survey and the people who returned it agreed with him. (Hardly systematic or scientific.) The way this was worded was horribly devious, too because they asked if the planet was warming (of course; it's been warming since the end of the Little Ice Age in the Nineteenth century) and if human beings had anything to do with it (of course, but as Roger Pielke Sr. pointed out, a lot of that has to do with land use changes). Even asking if carbon dioxide has something to do with it will get a positive response, as Dr. Roy Spencer, who runs the University of Alabama Huntsville satellite data center (for NASA, and a "climate skeptic") will agree that carbon dioxide probably has something to do with modest (and I mean modest - less than a degree ) planetary warming, largely because he and nobody else can deduce where the extra heat is from. But there is so much we do not know; we don't know about solar-related phenomenon, such as magnetic effects on atmospheric temperatures, cosmic rays, changes in Milankovitch cycles, cosmic micrometeor bombardment, etc.As Astrophysicists Willie Soon and Sally Balliunas think, much of the warming can be contribued to changes in solar activity. The big argument there is that the TSI - total solar irradiance - doesn't seem to justify it. But then spectral changes make a difference too, so total tsi does not tell the whole story. Ditto the solar wind. And, again, temperature changes have been very nominal, and most of the breathless reporting of "hottest year ever" fail to mention that these are interpretations of data (we don't know what the planet's temperature is) and usually involves a statistical dead heat with a bunch of other "warmest on record" years. It should be pointed out that we have had little statistically significant planetary warming since the late nineties. But none of that matters to the media, who want to promote AGW theory in it's most disastrous form because a.its fun to report doom and b.it helps promote an agenda the media agree with. BTW, The Federal government took over almost all funding for science in the late seventies and they are getting the data they want; he who pays the bills is boss. And we have a number of examples of both NOAA and NASA "correcting" data - both past and present - to suggest more warming than is observed (satellite data usually shows little to no warming). The surface stations are very poor quality data, with many of them simply decomissioned and averaged out. Oh, and as for the scare stories on glacial melt, there is also considerable glacial growth; that ebbs and flows over time. But you don't know any of this because it doesn't get reported because the media wants this big scary story out there. I've corresponded with a number of these scientists who are very frustrated at the way this is handled. I've talked with Roy Spencer, for instance, and Roger Pielke Sr. on any number of occasions. Ditto S. Fred Singer, Jennifer Marohasy, and a bunch of others. Most of them are where the father of this theory - Roger Revelle - was; he saw it as a minor warming, a novelty, and little more. The main argument is over feedback loops and climate sensitivity; will the modest warming lead to evaporation of ocean water that warms the planet, or will it lead to cloud formation that cools it? Nobody knows, but the Earth has had higher levels of co2 in the past and been cooler. The point is, there is no justification for impoverishing the planet and killing lots of people in the Third World at this point.

Where have all the Wasps gone?

Timothy Birdnow

On Facebook a friend mentioned she has seen no bees this year. It got me to thinking:

I have a cabin I built in the Ozarks and haven't seen any down there. Only saw one wasp, too, which is VERY unusual; I'm usually overrun by them. (Not complaining about that last, but it sure is odd.)

Odd indeed. Has it been too cold for bees/wasps? Is something else in the wind? Perhaps some sort of magnetic effect that has them all hunkered down? I haven't seen any wasp's nests anywhere at the Ozark Hilton, either.

Sure is strange.

Attack on America, Attack on Israel

This from Joe Bastardi:

As in so many things I see today, the anti Israel sentiment and portrayal of them as something they are not, has appeal to people. The rise of anti-Semitism continues. https://www.tabletmag.com/sections/news/articles/new-york-primary-2020-democrat-congres This time they are coming for all of us, hate of Israel tip of a Marxist/Iranian etc iceberg. This guy is unaware Palestine has been under control of HAMAS since 2005, and has launched numerous Iranian funded attacks on Israel since then. Or perhaps he supports that out ignorance of the facts. Either way the growing tide of anti Israel sentiment in that party should have many concerned, IMO.

A word from Tim:

Israel is defended by the United States. As Jesus once told his disciples "the world hates you because first it hated Me." That is why there is now an all-out assault on the U.S.; having failed to drive Israel into the sea the forces of darkness aka the Left is now turning it's attention to "softer" targets, primarily Israel's big brother. And they have found friends inside America in the Universities, in the schools, in the news media and Hollywood. Through them they have deceived the weak-minded who now think America is a terrible place and must be erased.

Once we are gone Israel can be taken out.

Wallace Admits they were not Nooses

Timothy Birdnow

So now, after filing a false police report and stirring up more racial animosity, Jussie Smollett Bubba Wallace admits he was "mistaken" about the "noose".

From Fox:

NASCAR driver Bubba Wallace tweeted out a statementon Wednesday about the supposednoose found in his garage, saying that he's "relieved" to know it wasn't meant for him, but embarrassed by the mixup after the FBI ended its hate crime investigation.

"It's been an emotional few days. First off, I want to say how relieved I am that the investigation revealed that this wasn't what we feared it was," he wrote. "I want to thank my team, NASCAR and the FBI for acting swiftly and treating this as a real threat.

"I think we'll gladly take a little embarrassment over what the alternatives could have been," Wallace continued."Make no mistake, though some will try, this should not detract from the show of unity we had on Monday, and the progress we've made as a sport to be a more welcoming environment for all."

The FBI determinedthat thenoose found in Wallace's garage at Talladega Superspeedway on Sunday had been there since at least last year, according to the bureau.

So, no harm no foul! Wallace thinks he should just go along his merry way after turning things upside-down, libeling NASCAR fans, and making an ass of himself.

The sad thing is, the "woke" businesses in America will probably line up to sponsor him now.

Well, at least he has probably cooked his own goose with NASCAR fans and will be the most unpopular driver in the country.

James Doogue adds:

Our society has gone overboard in spotting racism where it doesn't exist. So we shouldn't be surprised that African-America ns automatically assume that a garage door pull-rope knotted in a convenient loop, is a racist threat.

We also shouldn't be surprised that pretty much the entire international media ran with the story and the FBI were brought in. We also shouldn't be surprised that the NASCAR racing industry held rally's in support of Bubba Wallace and in solidarity against the racism.

I certainly wasn't surprised, I expected it was either an innocent piece of rope or a Jesse Smollett type hoax.

Yet if you read the lefty media now they know this was an embarrassing mistake, they are saying it wasn't an unreasonable over-reaction.

This is what we are teaching society. Blacks are victims. There are dangerous white racists everywhere.

I've done the research. I can't find any black majority country where blacks (or whites or any colour), are safer than in presently white majority countries such as the US, Australia, Canada and the UK.

NASCAR Noose Nonsense

Bill H.

Bubba Wallace is causing huge problems for NASCAR, which NASCAR is embracing with both arms due to its own stupidity.

First Wallace extorted NASCAR into issuing a ban on the Confederate flag, which it had already done in 2015. It immediately realized, back then, that it could not enforce that ban without driving away a large number of its fans, but Wallace put them in a bind, so it issues a new ban in 2020, pretending it had never issued the ban five years earlier.

Result: at the first race where fans are allowed there is a plane towing a banner with a confederate flag and the words "defund nascar.” There is a parade of pickup trucks just outside the speedway, circling the track, flying the confederate flag. NASCAR is, of course, powerless as they are not on the track’s property.

Wallace’s car has no sponsor, so Wallace gets his owner, Richard Petty, to paint the car black and letter it for "Black Lives Matter.” Announcers speak of the car being "sponsored by BLM,” which it was not. No money was paid by BLM, it was actually an unsponsored car lettered according to Bubba Wallace’s choice.

He finished well in that race because what white driver wants to take any chance whatever of being involved, or accused of, wrecking a "BLM sponsored” car, driven by "NASCAR’s only black driver?”

Then along comes Talladega, which has garage door pull down ropes on all stalls, with loops tied in all of them. Nobody notices any of those ropes, or loops, all day Saturday while preparing cars for the Sunday race. Nobody notices them Sunday while taking the cars out and putting them back for the rained out race. Nobody notices 39 of them Sunday night, but does notice one of them on Bubba Wallace’s garage door, and starts screaming that we have a hate crime in progress.

The Federal Bureau of Ineptitude is shrewd enough to notice the other 39 ropes, and to see photos going back to November of last year that show the rope in stall #4 eight months ago, and tells everybody to calm down. Bubba Wallace refuses to calm down, saying that he knows a hate crime when he sees one and that he has raced out of hundreds of garages, none of which have ever had pull ropes.

Stay tuned for the next chapter in the continuing saga.

Dana Mathewson adds:

So NASCAR's President, he of the hyperactive tear ducts, undoubtedly never goes inside any of the garages, or even asks any of the drivers if it might be true that such ropes exist inside them. Because he otherwise could have called BS to the whole thing. And apparently none of the other drivers had the stones to say "Hey, there's one of those in my garage too." It would have been so easy for one, then another, and another, to decide "Hey, we don't need any of this racist BS in our sport."

But of course, it's possible they don't like their president. Seems to me, though, like they're making it harder on themselves, because as you say, Bill, now they have to treat "Bubba" like a ticking time bomb on the track.

I'm not sure he'll ring in with his comment, but our own Jack Kemp e-mailed me with the comment "As far as I'm concerned he's still a race baiting opportunist scumbag who saw he couldn't get away with it because there were photos of the garage pull ropes going back at least to last fall."

And I responded "I'm with you all the way. Too bad Jussie Smollett didn't experience a similar exposure."

Hey folks... Apparently Bubba has backed off! This just in from Twitter: https://twitter.com/BubbaWallace/status/1275844030144950272

A peep from Tim:

I'm sure what is happening with this is NASCAR fears a boycott of it's sponsors. Since that is where so much money comes from, they probably are frightened of being squeezed to death by the Justice League. But it is craven cowardice.

Oregon County Exempts Minorities from Wearing Masks

Timothy Birdnow

Lincoln County, Washington, has exempted "people of color" from orders to wear facemasks in public!

Infidel Bloggers Alliance has the story:

But people of color do not have to follow the new rule if they have "heightened concerns about racial profiling and harassment” over wearing the masks, officials said.
"No person shall intimidate or harass people who do not comply,” health officials said. With mask requirements becoming more common, activists have raised concerns that the directives could put non-white people in danger.
"For many black people, deciding whether or not to wear a bandanna in public to protect themselves and others from contracting coronavirus is a lose-lose situation that can result in life-threatening consequences either way,” ReNika Moore, director of the ACLU’s Racial Justice Program, told CNN.
Strange; we were told black people are susceptible to Coronavirus. And who profiles based on a medical mask?

These people have gone stark raving mad.

The survey found that of the 71% who are considering leaving, 25% may retire early, 35% are looking for opportunities at other law enforcement agencies and 39% are considering leaving law enforcement entirely.

According to the union’s statement, among their concerns are the elimination of collective bargaining rights for employees, the changes in body-worn camera policy as it relates to evidence collection and changes in "use of force” policy.

BLM Beats Wisconsin State Senator

Timothy Birdnow

A Wisconsin state senator got beat up by BLM thugs.

According to the Daily Mail:

Democratic Wisconsin State Senator Tim Carpenter, 60, collapses after being 'punched and kicked in the head by ten protesters' after he stopped to take a video of them amid a night of unrest over activist's arrest

  • State Sen. Tim Carpenter said he had been heading into work late Tuesday when he stopped to take a video of protesters gathered outside the Capitol
  • Video captured by the senator shows hundreds of protesters chanting in the street, before two female activists break from the pack and charge towards him
  • As Carpenter pleads with the woman to ‘leave’ his phone, she is heard ordering him to delete the video, with the two seemingly ensnared in a struggle
  • Carpenter says the situation soon turned violent, with a group of 'eight to 10' protesters descending upon him and 'punching and kicking' him in the face
  • The assault has allegedly left him with a suspected concussion and a fractured nose, in addition to a bruised eye, sore ribs and back
  • Following the assault, Carpenter was seen kneeling down on the ground by his car before collapsing, prompting nearby journalists to summon an ambulance
  • Protestors took to the streets of Madison with a renewed passion following the dramatic arrest of black activist, Devonere Johnson, earlier in the day
  • Activists also pulled down two statues, including one of Col. Hans Christian Heg, a Norwegian immigrant and abolitionist who died fighting for the Union
