Do Not Want to Lose Their Grievance

Timothy Birdnow

Booker T. Washington famously stated: "There is a class of colored people who make a business of keeping the troubles, the wrongs, and the hardships of the Negro race before the public. ... Some of these people do not want the Negro to lose his grievances, because they do not want to lose their jobs"

Today it goes even further with what Larry Elder calls Victicrats; they find the definition of being black in being persecuted, and they also find political power in it. Clearly Lebron is one of those. And it is in so many ways about the identity of "authentic blackness"; lose the sense of grievance and you lose the racial identity of black culture.

San Antonio Seeks to Make "Chinese Virus" a Hate Crime

Timothy Birdnow

San Antonio wants to make "Chinese Flu" hate speech.

Ted Cruz slaps back at this political correctness run amok.

From El Zoro:

Council members unanimously passed a resolution that specifically addresses anti-ChineseCOVID-19 references, including terms such as "Chinese virus” or "kung fu virus,” claiming such language encourages hate crimes and other incidents against Asian-Americans and Asian immigrants.

"Unfortunately, during times of crisis we do see the best of humanity and sometimes we also see the worst," said Mayor Ron Nirenberg, who initiated the resolution, according to San Antonio's WOAI-TV."There has been a rise of hate speech throughout the course of this pandemic."

But prior to the vote, U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, blasted the plan as political correctness run amok.

"This is NUTS," Cruz wrote on Twitter on Thursday. "SA City Council behaving like a lefty college faculty lounge, triggered by Chick-fil-A & the words 'Wuhan virus.' If they want to investigate someone, start with NYT & CNN who both repeatedly (and rightly) referred to it as "the Chinese coronavirus."

The resolution asserts the coronavirus was not created or caused by any race, nationality or ethnicity.

It also refers to World Health Organization guidance against using geographic descriptors for the virus that could fuel acts of ethnic or racial discrimination.

"Our efforts must meet the indiscriminate nature of COVID-19 with empathy and compassion for all our neighbors," Nirenberg said

So an accurate description of it - Wuhan virus, for example (my choice since that meets with traditional standards of naming a virus after a place of origin - such as Marburg, or Ebola, or whatnot) is bad because it might prejudice people against "people of color" and we all know white Americans will start murdering Asian Americans in their evil racist way they always do. White Americans are, after all, monumentally stupid and incapable of thinking on their own, and will succumb to their genocidal temptations without the guidance of the city of San Antonio.

I am so glad these people are here to protect us all!

Military to Disqualify Recruits Who had Covid 19

Timothy Birdnow

You have GOT to be freaking kidding me!!!

Coronavirus Survivors 'Permanently Disqualified' from Joining U.S. Military

A memorandum from the U.S. Military Entrance Processing Command (MEPCOM) says applicants who have previously tested positive for the COVID-19 novel coronavirus won't be allowed to serve in the armed forces, according to Military Times.

The authenticity of the memorandum has been verified by the Pentagon.

"During the medical history interview or examination, a history of COVID-19, confirmed by either a laboratory test or a clinician diagnosis, is permanently disqualifying," the memo reads.

Why not disqualify people who have had the flu, or pneumonia, or a bad head cold? The Obama Administration began recruiting gay and "transgendered" people and used the argument that we needed people rather desperately. Now we're disqualifying people who have had a virus, are not sick, and are not contagious? If we did that with other viruses there would be nobody to serve.

I know we often laugh at the oxymoron of "military intelligence" but this is downright surreal

A Right Only When WE Say It Is!

Timothy Birdnow

I seem to remember when we were being treated to rioting and traffic disruptions in Baltimore and St. Louis and other places we were told the right to protest was absolute and there was no way the authorities could stop it. Baltimore even cordoned off an area so people could riot "peaceably". St. Louis allowed blocking of traffic. And Ferguson burned night after night because, hey! We don't have the authority to stop people from protesting. But now it's all different. My God, what a bunch of monumental hypocrites!

AARP Spills the Beans on Coronavirus

Timothy Birdnow

The AARP is a bunch of silver-haired Reds and so this should give an insight into what the Left is thinking about doing with the Wuhan Virus.

From the article:

According to researchers, the effects of lockdowns, layoffs and massive public measures to contain COVID-19 "will last long after any threat from the virus is gone...In the future, we'll talk about ‘BC,’ before corona, and after."

Now, the death tolls of this are going to be comparable to  the H2N2 death tolls (the Asian flu) of 1057-58 (and the subsequent second round about ten years later.) The mortality rate for this was 0.67, well above COVID 19 and it killed 69.800 Americans (and a worldwide total of around two million deaths.) But this was at 1957 population levels. The U.S. had 171,178,000 people back then - it's now 331,002,651. That isn't half the population but it's more than a third, certainly. For the sake of argument (and I don't want to fool with the exact math right now) let's say seventy thousand deaths plus another third - so we're looking at a hundred thousand deaths. NBC News is claiming 76,000 deaths as of yesterday. So we are on track to beat the 1957 pandemic.

But there was a pandemic again in 1968, this time of a mutated strain, the H3N2 virus. That one killed a hundred thousand in the U.S. and anywhere between one and three million worldwide.

So we may top those, but not to any large degree. However we are going to go nowhere near the Spanish Flu of 1918 which killed 550,000 Americans - at a time when the population was 103 million.

The point is, we did not speak about  "before" and "after". This is a pandemic, certainly, but it is no worse than the three pandemics we had in the twentieth century. And given the funny business with the numbers (like paying hospitals for more coronavirus deaths) we likely have quite a bit fewer deaths than we are being told. (Many of these deaths are being diagnosed as COVID related even in lieu of a test.) This pandemic is no worse than any other.

What is different is our panic and hysterical response.

And it does no good anyway; all we are doing is stretching this thing out. Social distancing and "shelter in place" merely prolonges the end. We won't be rid of this until we develop herd immunity. The original idea for the lockdowns was to give hospitals time to deal with this. We were never told it would save lives. They have subtly changed their tactic here - a classic bait-and-switch.

Why? This benefits the Democrats who were sure losers before this, and it benefits the internationalists and Progressives, who want to fundamentally transform the world order. So now it'll be BC and AC. That never happened before - but then we never did national and worldwide lockdowns before, either.

Lawsuit Challenges Minnesota Shutdown Order

Dana Mathewson

If you ask me, this should have come sooner, and there should have been more of these in more states.

From Power Line:
[Power Line writer] Scott [Johnson] has chronicled life under Minnesota’s oppressive, discriminatory and ineffective shutdown regime in his Coronavirus in one state series. It has been evident for some weeks that Governor Tim Walz has achieved little beyond unemploying a half million or more Minnesotans and destroying many thousands of his state’s businesses, while allowing the devastation of Minnesota’s nursing homes. As of this afternoon, the forces of common sense are striking back.

Today the Upper Midwest Law Center filed suit in the federal court for the District of Minnesota on behalf of nine individuals, churches and small businesses:

* Northland Baptist Church of St. Paul, Minnesota and Pastor John Bruski, who have been prohibited from holding in-person religious services and indoor or outdoor religious gatherings while at the same time similar types of secular gatherings have been allowed under the executive orders.

* Living Word Christian Center, which has been prohibited from holding in-person religious services and indoor or outdoor religious gatherings, while at the same time similar types of secular gatherings have been allowed under the executive orders.

* Glow In One Mini Golf L.L.C. in Blaine, Minnesota, and its owner and operator, Aaron Kessler, who have been prohibited from operating a mini-golf business while at the same time golf courses have been allowed to operate under the executive orders.

* Myron’s Cards and Gifts, Inc. and its owner and operator Larry Evenson, which has locations in Bloomington, Coon Rapids, Roseville, Blaine and Mankato, Minnesota, who have been required to shut down five greeting card and gift stores while at the same time big box stores such as Target, Walgreens and CVS have been allowed to stay open and sell greeting cards and gifts under the executive orders.

* Andrew Hulse and Gay Bunch-Hulse, owners and operators of 18 | 8 Fine Men’s Salons in Maple Grove and Wayzata, Minnesota, who have been prohibited from operating their state-licensed and infection control trained hair salons while at the same time liquor stores and pet groomers have been allowed to operate under the executive orders.

The complaint alleges that Governor Walz’s many executive orders have violated plaintiffs’ rights of religious freedom under the federal and Minnesota constitutions; their free speech and assembly rights under the federal and Minnesota constitutions; their equal protection rights under the federal constitution; their due process rights under the federal constitution; and, further, constitute a taking of their property for which compensation must be paid under the Fifth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

Look But Don't Touch!

Timothy Birdnow

We have a winner for the Darwin Awards.

South Carolina Woman Killed by Gator had tried to Touch it

The woman attacked and killed by an alligator in a gated community along the South Carolina coast was visiting the homeowner to do her nails and was trying to touch the animal when it grabbed her, authorities said.

After briefly getting away from the alligator Friday, the woman stood in waist deep water in the Kiawah Island pond and said "I guess I won't do this again,” but the alligator grabbed her in its jaws again and took her under, according to a supplemental police report released Tuesday.

Cynthia Covert, 58, died of drowning before Charleston County deputies and firefighters were able to shoot and kill the alligator and use poles to get her out of the pond, authorities said.

Covert came to Kiawah Island, a gated community southeast of Charleston, to give the homeowner a manicure Friday, according to the police report.

The woman told deputies Covert typically was professional in her salon, but was relaxed and excited at the home, talking about her boyfriend’s visit from Tennessee, and brought a glass of wine with her.

Covert saw the alligator while working on the woman’s porch and when Covert finished she started taking pictures of the alligator, the woman told deputies.

The woman and her husband started screaming for Covert to get away from the alligator because they saw it grab a deer a few days earlier, deputies said.

Covert said "I don’t look like a deer” and reached to touch the alligator when the animal attacked, according to the report.

Metastasizing Wuflu in New York and Elsewhere

Timothy Birdnow

Here is an interesting essay about how Governor Cuomo metastasized the COVID 19 epidemic in his state by forcing nursing homes to take people who were infected. It is rather eye opening.

From the article:

"They don’t have the right to object,” Cuomo answered before the reporter finished his question. "That is the rule, and that is the regulation, and they have to comply with it.”

New York isn’t the only state to adopt a policy ordering long-term care facilities to admit COVID-19-infected patients discharged from hospitals. New Jersey, Massachusetts, and California—three states also hit particularly hard by the novel coronavirus—passed similar policies to free up hospital beds to make room for sicker patients.

The practice is coming under increased scrutiny by health experts and family members of deceased patients who say the orders needlessly put the most susceptible populations at risk.

"The whole thing has just been handled awfully ... by everybody in regard to nursing homes,” said Kathleen Cole, a nurse who recently lost her 89-year-old mother who lived at Ferncliff Nursing Home in Rhinebeck, New York. "It’s like a slaughterhouse at these places.”

Cole, who shared her story with the Bucks County Courier Times, told the paper her mother, Dolores McGoldrick, became infected with COVID-19 on April 2 after Ferncliff re-admitted a resident who had been discharged in late March. Two weeks later her mother, a former school teacher, was dead.

McGoldrick is one of nearly five thousand COVID-19 victims who died in New York nursing homes, according to new figures from The New York Times. New York’s high nursing home death toll is not an outlier. California recently released datashowing that some 40 percent of California’s COVID-19 fatalities have come from eldercare homes. In Pennsylvania, nursing homes accountfor 65 percent of COVID-19 deaths. Both states, like New York, had orders in place that required nursing homes to admit recently released COVID-19 patients.

These results are not surprising to some. Health experts and trade associations had warned early on that forcing nursing homes to take on newly discharged COVID-19 patients was a recipe for disaster, noting that such facilities didn’t have the ability to properly quarantine the infected.

Do read the whole thing; it's worth your time.

The Land of Illusion

Mark Musser

The fake news of Tinseltown on the dirty streets of Broadway was seen in all of its staged glory on CBS This Morning News last Friday morning during the middle of a virus pandemic which was not showing enough of emergency crisis situation worthy of television coverage. As such, CBS This Morning News staged its own COVID testing line to show Americans a news story that would subliminally grab their attention by stoking up some extra needed drama.

While this may seem shocking to those who have been sleep walking through the Leftist madness that has enveloped up to half of the country now over the last 20 years or so, many seem to forget that the news comes from huge liberal networks like NBC, CBS, ABC, and MSNBC whose Broadway and Hollywood offices in New York and Los Angeles play no small role in disseminating what is considered news as the heartland of America is sandwiched in between both left coasts. Even Fox News is run by 21st Century Fox – a Hollywood giant. Worse, local TV stations take their cue from the national news. Add on top of this the entertainment barrage after the news is over coupled with constant internet connections all day long, and what is left over are a lot of images without much content, thought, or context to explain those images.

Yet, then again, when was the last time Hollywood has really ever told the truth even with regard to their historical movies purportedly based on actual events? Hollywood regularly uses artistic license that converts historical facts into something much more entertaining together with some political propaganda to boot that is very stealthy, if not subliminal at various points, but readily captures the imagination of the heart. What’s more, if Hollywood cannot truthfully depict the past, then what about the accuracy of the daily news?

Hollywood and/or Broadway have mixed up entertainment and art with news and politics so much that the idolatrous image has become more important than content or substance – which precludes any serious discussion about politics, life, philosophy, and religion as so much has been dumbed down to images and cliches. Jonah Goldberg’s book on the Tyranny of Cliches encapsulates this crisis perfectly as many Americans cannot think beyond the political clichés which have been branded onto their hearts. As such, all too many have increasingly confused fantasy with politics and news. This in turn fuels great discontent and division as people’s fictional dreams and political fantasies, fanned by Hollywood’s artistic imagination, remain unfulfilled this side of the grave.

Images are very powerful and the great success of Hollywood demonstrates this. It has been said that pictures speak a thousand words. Indeed they do. Images thus can be easily interpreted, manipulated, controlled, and propagandized in any number of different ways. Worse, images also appeal to the baser instincts of human life since no content or thinking is required. It is easy to watch and be a spectator.

The God of the Hebrew Old Testament constantly warned His people about worshiping graven images at the expense of His written word. It is no coincidence that Hollywood has directed most of its ire against the Judeo-Christian biblical tradition by flooding the American soul with 24/7 imaging that is empty of both mind and content, which is then reinforced by all the images on phones and the internet - all of which is presenting to its watchers a false narrative that has very little to do with reality.#ExposeCBS Michigan Health Center Workers Stage "Fake Patients” In COVID19 Testing Line For CBS News

Cancer Deaths and the State of Fear

Timothy Birdnow

Harvard is predicting that a lot of people will die of cancer because they aren't getting their screenings now.

And the economic downturn will kill a lot of people. All this for a virus that is going to turn out to be not much more lethal than the yearly flu.

Michael Crichton wrote in his novel "State of Fear" that the powers that be govern society through generating fear. Academia devises some scary scenario and the media runs with it. Eventually the political class gets on board and promotes it and the public is carried along in terms of policy and the like. It's a continuous loop. This virus is the latest iteration of that. We've had so many other scares - global warming, ozone depletion, alar, dioxin, global cooling, nuclear winter, etc. Now they are gearing up "Chinese Murder Hornets" just as they had dne with "Killer Bees" during the '70's. It's all about keeping us in fear and obedient. This was the biggest, most successful panic they've generated (and it is based on a real virus, but the supposed lethality of that virus never matched the computer models.) We've got to stop swallowing these fish tales.

I might point out that Crichton was originally going to write a disaster story about global warming but when he started researching he came to the conclusion the world was being had.

Goat and Paw-Paw Test Positive for Wuflu

Timothy Birdnow

The argument by the Gulagers is that testing is the answer. Well, Tanzanian health officials tested a piece of fruit - and found it had COVID 19.

From Reuters:

"Tanzania has suspended the head of its national health laboratory in charge of testing for the coronavirus... a day after President John Magufuli questioned the tests’ accuracy. Magufuli said... the test kits were faulty as they had returned positive results on a goat and a pawpaw (fruit) — among several non-human samples submitted for testing..."

But we are supposed to wait until we have unlimited testing - and are supposed to believe the numbers we are being given.

Right.

Biden Dropping in Polls

Timothy Birdnow

The thing that the Democrats were most hoping would happen - the American People would turn away from Trump over his handling of the Coronavirus - is melting away.

CNBC states:

The opinion poll conducted on Monday and Tuesday found that 43% of registered voters said they would support Biden in the Nov. 3 presidential election, while 41% said they would back Trump. That makes the contest essentially a toss-up, as the results are within the poll's credibility interval.

Biden led by 6 percentage points in a similar poll last week and by 8 points in a poll that ran April 15 to 21.

The former vice president has been forced to run his presidential campaign from his Delaware home in keeping with restrictions aimed at combating the virus, which has killed more than 70,000 people in the United States and put 30 million people out of work.

By contrast, Trump has put himself at the helm of the U.S. pandemic response, with regular White House briefings until recently.

Some of Biden's most dominant recent headlines focused on a former U.S. Senate aide's allegation that he sexually assaulted her in 1993. Biden said last week the alleged assault "never happened" and asked the Senate to make public any documents related to the accusation by Tara Reade, who worked as a staff assistant in Biden’s Senate office from December 1992 to August 1993.

The political impact of the situation was not yet clear in the Reuters/Ipsos poll, which showed 53% of the American public said they were "somewhat" or "very" familiar with Reade's allegation.

According to the poll, 45% of Americans said Trump was better suited to create jobs, while 32% said Biden was the better candidate for that. That pushed Trump's advantage over Biden in terms of job creation to 13 points, compared with the Republican president's 6-point edge in a similar poll that ran in mid-April.

Thirty-seven percent said Trump was better leading the country's coronavirus response, while 35% preferred Biden. A similar poll in mid-April showed Biden had a slight edge over Trump when it came to the nation's response to the disease.

Overall, 42% of Americans said they approved of Trump's performance in office, and 53% said they disapproved. The president's popularity has remained relatively flat for more than a year.

Bear in mind this is a poll run by a news service (Reuters) and is unquestionably biased in favor of Biden over Trump. So add five and subtract five and you probably have the true results. And of course this early the sitting President never does that well; he will surge as people get serious in the later weeks of the campaign. So in the final analysis things are looking good for Mr. Trump and not so good for Creepy Joe.

The Worldwide Lockdown May Be the Greatest Mistake in History

Dana Mathewson

Dennis Prager, one of the wisest men currently among us, lays it all out in this relatively short article in PJMedia. I urge you to read it all. As usual, Prager sets politics aside and zeroes in on clarity.

The idea that the worldwide lockdown of virtually every country other than Sweden may have been an enormous mistake strikes many — including world leaders; most scientists, especially health officials, doctors and epidemiologists; those who work in major news media; opinion writers in those media; and the hundreds of millions, if not billions, of people who put their faith in these people — as so preposterous as to be immoral. Timothy Egan of The New York Times described Republicans who wish to enable their states to open up as "the party of death.”

That’s the way it is today on planet Earth, where deceit, cowardice and immaturity now dominate almost all societies because the elites are deceitful, cowardly and immature.

But for those open to reading thoughts they may differ with, here is the case for why the worldwide lockdown is not only a mistake but also, possibly, the worst mistake the world has ever made. And for those intellectually challenged by the English language and/or logic, "mistake” and "evil” are not synonyms. The lockdown is a mistake; the Holocaust, slavery, communism, fascism, etc., were evils. Massive mistakes are made by arrogant fools; massive evils are committed by evil people.

The forcible prevention of Americans from doing anything except what politicians deem "essential” has led to the worst economy in American history since the Great Depression of the 1930s. It is panic and hysteria, not the coronavirus, that created this catastrophe. And the consequences in much of the world will be more horrible than in America.

The United Nations World Food Programme, or the WFP, states that by the end of the year, more than 260 million people will face starvation — double last year’s figures. According to WFP director David Beasley on April 21: "We could be looking at famine in about three dozen countries. … There is also a real danger that more people could potentially die from the economic impact of COVID-19 than from the virus itself” (italics added).

That would be enough to characterize the worldwide lockdown as a deathly error. But there is much more. If global GDP declines by 5%, another 147 million people could be plunged into extreme poverty, according to the International Food Policy Research Institute.

[...]

To the left, anyone who questions the lockdown is driven by preference for money over lives. Typical of the left’s moral shallowness is this headline on Salon this week:

"It’s Time To Reject the Gods of Commerce: America Is a Society, Not an ‘Economy,'” with the subhead reading, "America Is About People, Not Profit Margins.”

And, of course, to smug editors and writers of The Atlantic, in article after repetitive article, the fault lies not with the lockdown but with President Donald Trump. The most popular article in The Atlantic this week is titled "The Rest of the World Is Laughing at Trump.” The elites can afford to laugh at whatever they want. Meanwhile, the less fortunate — that is, most people — are crying.

Please, please read the whole thing. https://pjmedia.com/columns/dennis-prager/2020/05/05/the-worldwide-lockdown-may-be-the-greatest-mistake-in-history-n388182 Governments, and not only ours, have been putting the cart before the horse.

Majority of Democrats say virus ‘worsened’ their mental health

Dana Mathewson, with a hat tip to David Dickinson

If you quickly read this title, you might be forgiven if you think the article came from either the Babylon Bee or the Onion. It didn't; it's from the Washington Examiner and it's dead serious. Of course, if you are of the attitude that this site's editorial staff takes, you are probably thinking "well, it doesn't take much, we know that." Fasten your seat belt and here we go:

The coronavirus is really bumming out Democrats.

And it doesn’t help that they don’t like President Trump. Because, according to a new survey provided exclusively to Secrets, feeling crummy about the government’s response to the virus crisis fuels depression.

"Democrats were the most likely to report deteriorating mental health since the virus outbreak, and they were also the most likely to feel underserved by public officials during this time: 72% thought public officials had not yet done enough,” said the survey for Boston-based College Finance Co.

There are all sorts of graphs in the article, and they don't copy well. Actually, they don't copy at all, so you'll need to go to the article, here https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/washington-secrets/majority-of-democrats-say-virus-worsened-their-mental-health to read the whole thing. It's not long.

I don't know about you, but this "blame everything on Trump" attitude is wearing pretty thin to me. I pulled a muscle in my back a couple weeks ago and if I took the approach of the average leftist I'd be blaming that on him.

"Deteriorating mental health." Are they trying to distract us from Joe Biden? Just wondering. . .
