Cameron has a built in bias to promote the theme of his apocalyptic and entertaining and fascinating movies which I've always enjoyed. He is a remarkable story teller. But if you know anything about computer systems and the hugely complex requirements necessary to achieve compatibility among the myriad systems AI would have to access and control, you'd realize Skynet is an extremely unlikely scenario. The likelier possibility, which I've posted about and which Musk agrees is the real danger, is that an AI programmed to scour and learn from social media will learn how to impersonate humans and take to social media and post messages that will mislead many to bad societal outcomes.

James Cameron is weighing in on AI as computer programming continues to mature and become more sophisticated. The director of The Terminator made a call back to the film he also co-wrote and that Arnold Schwarzenegger starred in.
"I warned you guys in 1984, and you didn’t listen,” he told CTV News about AI.
"I think the weaponization of AI is the biggest danger,” he added. "I think that we will get into the equivalent of a nuclear arms race with AI, and if we don’t build it, the other guys are for sure going to build it, and so then it’ll escalate.”
Cameron doesn’t think AI will replace writers anytime soon saying, "I just don’t personally believe that a disembodied mind that’s just regurgitating what other embodied minds have said — about the life that they’ve had, about love, about lying, about fear, about mortality — and just put it all together into a word salad and then regurgitate it … I don’t believe that have something that’s going to move an audience.”
He continued, "Let’s wait 20 years, and if an AI wins an Oscar for Best Screenplay, I think we’ve got to take them seriously.”
Tim adds:
I think the greatest of all dangers is AI takes over doing the work Americans Just Won't Do, and eventually all of humanity will become horribly enfeebled by it. We've seen that happen in aristocratic societies repeatedly and know people become weak and inbred and decadent if they have too little to do themselves. I fear this is what AI will do to the whole world. After the crash which is inevitable few will be able to survive because everything will be on the computers and print books will probably hve disappeared and the public won't know how to use them or do anything anyway. The great Irish famine was caused by overreliance on one staple crop. That's kind of where we are going with AI, only in spades.

Thanks for sharing this insightful article on AI and James Cameron's perspective. It's interesting to see his concerns about the weaponization of AI and the potential for an "AI arms race." While the apocalyptic scenarios like Skynet may be far-fetched, it's crucial to address the ethical implications of AI's development. Let's hope that as AI evolves, it's utilized responsibly for the betterment of society. | Click here for more information about our services.
