Just my take:
Although considerably outnumbered on the extensive Ukraine fronts, the Russians are grinding the Ukrainians down with their logistical advantages, superior artillery and armour, and virtual full control of the skies. Their rocket and guided missile systems are also inflicting heavy losses on military positions throughout Ukraine. All this without the Russians mobilizing their reserves.
NATO under U.S. control effectively started this war by continually goading the Russians. They have known for decades that the Russians consider the eastward expansion of NATO to be an existential threat to the Russian Federation yet have been grooming Ukraine to be the next NATO member.
They have been doing this with the full knowledge that the Russians
have said this is not acceptable under any circumstances. Add to this
the failure by Ukraine to implement the Minsk 2 agreements, their
continual bombardment of the Donbas since 2014, (14,000 killed),
neo-Nazi control in high levels of the Ukraine administration,
It is clear that the U.S. administration,
This won’t happen. Putin has the vast majority of his people onside and the war is probably only strengthening his position. Russians are used to sanctions and tend to see them as a challenge to be overcome. Meanwhile it has become clear that the West has shot itself in the foot as the sanctions are back-firing.
Russia is now in control of the war and no one outside of the Russian Ministry of Defence knows what the final objectives of Russia in Ukraine are. They may stop once the Donbas is secured; they may proceed further to take Odessa and Transnistria as the Ukrainian resistance crumbles, or they may even take over all of Ukraine by various military and political means. It would be ironic if the Russians take the war down a gradual grinding route that over time, due to energy and goods inflation plus serious supply-chain problems, rebounds on, and weakens the U.S. and Europe.

Putin and company seem to be doing just fine.
Looks like WE are the ones suffering from all of this. If we had handled this properly - or stayed out of it - we'd be doing just fine too.
Well, as good as can be expected with the current regime in power.
