Covid is the New Afghanistan

From Jim Church

From Newsweek:

With COVID, as with the Afghanistan boondoggle, the stated goals have been ever-shifting and often nebulous. "Two weeks to flatten the curve" evolved into "defeating the virus"—whatever that means—and of course "building back better," which is to say, exploiting the pandemic to forcibly impose a full-spectrum progressive agenda. Routing al-Qaeda and the Taliban regime that harbored it evolved into making Zurich out of Kandahar. And if "zero-COVID" is the implicit goal, it is equally as farcical. The totalitarian means that would be employed in a bid to achieve that would only compound the disaster. In both cases, mission creep was baked in from the beginning by dint of the mission itself.

The measures by which to achieve these vague goals have proven similarly haphazard. With COVID, our authorities conjured social distancing rules almost out of thin air; urged us to wear no masks and then up to three at a time, despite their questionable efficacy; and imposed on-again, off-again lockdowns—all selectively enforced based on political ideology. The politicians that have inflicted the most pain on their constituents—fr om the elderly consigned to their deaths in nursing homes, to the children kept out of school—have hidden behind public-health bureaucrats, as insulated as the national security and foreign policy establishment officials behind Afghanistan. In Afghanistan, that establishment oversaw the development of a sharia-subordin ate political regime, bribed thugs and warlords, poured billions into bridges-to-nowh ere, imposed on our soldiers suicidal rules of engagement and demanded they turn a blind eye to bacha bazi and all manner of other awfulness—all in service of liberal, moralistic nation-building .

I've long said, on radio and elsewhere, that I suspect Dr. Mouth ("Fauci" means "mouth" in Italian) may have narcissistic personality disorder. If not, he certainly tends in that direction.

Record Number of Centenarians in Britain

Timothy Birdnow

So, we are in the midst of a huge pandemic that is killing everyone.

And Great Britain is right up there at the top.

So, why is Britain chock full of centenarians?

Shouldn't these guys have croaked by now?

Doesn't this strike you as odd?

In The United Kingdom, from 3 January 2020 to  13 September 2021, there have been 7,226,280 confirmed cases of COVID-19 with 134,200 deaths, reported to WHO.

So why are the old, old codgers not dying?

Something doesn't pass the smell test.

Media Hypocrisy

Warner Todd Huston

Liberal media: We are OUTRAGED that the media only reports on the murders of pretty, blond, white girls!

Also the liberal media: You can't report on murders of blacks because its racist to say blacks are murderers or get murdered a lot!

Turn Turn Turn

Scott Snell

In recognition of yesterday's seasonal passage, here is an homage to Fall I published several years ago.

Turn, Turn, Turn

With the passing of the autumnal equinox yesterday, the calendar officially turns from Summer to Fall, as is customary this time of year. And so even as we continue to perspire we begin to consider, faintly, the possibility, of open windows, long sleeves, and–dare we think it–sweaters and jackets.

The turn was late this year. As everyone knows, Autumn begins every year on September 21. Except that it doesn’t. Tugged this way and that by countless tendrils of gravity, slender and stout, reaching to the stars and beyond, the Earth never traces twice exactly the same path in its journey about the sun. Our planet also wobbles a bit as it rotates. And so the sun stands exactly vertically above the Earth’s equator at a different measured moment every seasonal cycle. And there is something of a paradox in this because our calendars and our clocks both derive from the sun’s apparent motion, whose stubborn imprecision has caused no end of vexation for those wishing to keep close track of this thing we call "time.”

The solar zenith will cross the planet’s midline again, of course, in six months give or take a few hours, tracking in the other direction as it shuttles endlessly between twenty three point five north latitude and twenty three point five south. And as this reliable solar cycle defines the seasons, it also defines in ways both large and small the rhythms of life for this planet’s inhabitants.

Our eyes and our experience tell us that the sun moves while we stand still. It "rises” and "sets.” It crosses the sky daily, moving steadily and unerringly from one horizon to the other, always east to west. It moves yearly, climbing over the months to its apex, pausing briefly, receding to its nadir, and pausing again. But all of this motion is an illusion, albeit a very good one. Because by the implacable logic of Occam’s Razor, it is the smaller body, the Earth, that moves, and the larger, the Sun, that does not.

Illusory or not, from the human viewpoint, these cycles are themselves invariant and forever, reassuring absolutes in a world full of relative. Except that they aren’t. In the same way as a spinning top, the Earth’s rotational axis traces a wobbly circle–"precess es” in the argot of physics–complet ing a circuit every twenty-two thousand years or so. The change caused by this motion occurs slowly enough that it would take a half-dozen normal lifetimes laid end-to-end to even begin to notice. Nevertheless, in eleven thousand years, give or take, any humans still around will be celebrating the beginning of Fall in March. But in another eleven thousand, again give or take, this season will once again arrive at the "right” time, in the last quarter of September.

Even the familiar twenty-four hour day is a temporary arrangement. The tight gravitational bond of Earth and Moon act as a brake on the rotation of both. A billion years ago our planet spun much faster than now, completing three or four rotations in the same length of time now required to complete just one. Over the next billion or so it will continue to slow, gradually winding down until it and the moon are locked in a synchronous embrace. The moon, being a much smaller body, fulfilled its end of the deal long ago, so that from our viewpoint it has a bright side, familiar to us from its "full” phase, and a dark side, which we never, ever see fully illuminated.

Here at latitude thirty degrees, seasonal change is a subtle affair. This far south, not all that far from the tropics, the warm season dominates, lasting some years from late April to early October. And as if reluctant to depart, is almost always slow to release its grip. But change is happening, and if you pay attention, the signs of it are legion.

Well off the vertical now, the midday sun, still hot, is no longer painfully so. The mornings have lost their former enervating heaviness, and while not exactly crisp yet, are beginning to hint in that direction. The days grow rapidly shorter; today we will have two minutes less daylight than yesterday and tomorrow we will have two minutes less than today. The light now has a slanting, golden quality to it unique to this time of year. Cicadas, white noise makers of summer, have ceased their endless hypnotic droning, having either mated or died trying. Pecans and acorns are ripening, and here and there a few outliers have already fallen. Squirrels, foraging with a manic energy, are visibly putting on weight.

If Summer is a brass marching band, big and bright, loud and glorious, then Fall is a solitary woodwind: wistful and melancholic, yet so beautiful it breaks your heart. The word "autumnal,” redolent with regret and longing for all things unrealized, in three short syllables captures almost perfectly the piercing ambiguity of our hard-won maturity.

With the arrival of Fall we welcome and celebrate the change, revel in the colorful turning of the leaves, enjoy the rediscovered, nearly forgotten pleasure of cool air on flesh. Without quite realizing why, our step quickens and we scurry about with renewed and welcome vigor. Yet beneath it all is an insistent and vaguely troubling sense of loss, which darkens what ought to be be a time of joy. And we are not sure why.

And then we remember. We remember that Autumn is the time of slow dying, the withering away of fullness and plenty, light and life. And as the light leaves us and Winter draws near, that ancient primordial awareness, older than our species, is reawakened. Suddenly, somehow we know, without even being told, that it is time to gather, time to reap, time to prepare. Because darkness soon falls.

Nine Months Now

Steven Chase

NINE MONTHS....
631 people have been arrested and JAILED in connection with the Jan 6th protest.
Nine months in prison without trial and NOT ONE OF THEM has been charged with insurrection.
No evidence has been supplied of violence or anything more serious than trespassing and/or property damage.
Even assuming these charges are true, neither criminal damage nor trespass justifies nine months of imprisonment.
Russia's PUTIN has labeled them 'political prisoners'. How long will we allow Biden to detain political opponents without trial?

HOW LONG BEFORE THE MEDIA TAKES NOTICE?

Biden Didn't Pay His "Fair Share"

This from Alexis Worlock

President Joe Biden has repeatedly called on Americans to "pay their fair share" as he seeks to dramatically increase taxes to pay for the $1.2 trillion infrastructure and $3.5 trillion budget reconciliation bills, but Rep. Jim Banks, R-Ind., laments Biden "wants to raise your taxes, but doesn't even pay his own."

BP Prepares To Ration Gas At UK Service Stations Amid Supply Woes

Dana Mathewson

Our proprietor Tim posted an article downstream about Europe having an energy crisis. I thought I'd add this little tidbit to the list.

Compounding the ongoing UK energy crisis is BP plc, a multinational oil and gas company, which said it plans to restrict deliveries of gasoline and diesel across its network of service stations in the country amid a truck driver shortage, according to ITV.

ITV, citing a BP spokesperson, said a shortage of truck drivers is inhibiting the oil company's ability to transport fuel from refineries to its network of service stations.

According to ITV, the disruption is expected to cause BP to announce fuel "restrictions" at service stations "very soon."

The spokesperson said a "handful" of service stations have already closed due to the lack of unleaded gasoline and diesel.

Last Thursday, BP's Head of UK Retail, Hanna Hofer, spoke with the Cabinet Office about the diminishing supplies and said BP had two-thirds of fuel stock levels required for normal operations. She expects fuel stocks to stabilize and began rebuilding in October, but there could be a few weeks of disruptions at the pump.

The spokesperson added:

"These have been caused by delays in the supply chain, which has been impacted by industry-wide driver shortages across the UK and we are working hard to address this issue."

A lack of truck drivers is due to several factors, including Brexit and the virus pandemic. Since Brexit, there are estimates that several thousand truck drivers from the EU are thought to have been lost.

This is more bad news for Brits, who are already experiencing hyperinflating natural gas and electricity prices, along with other disruptions caused by the energy crisis.

As I said in my comment to Tim's earlier article, "they brought it on themselves." Here's the article, which I may have quoted in full: https://www.zerohedge.com/commodities/bp-prepares-ration-gas-uk-service-stations-amid-supply-woes

CCP Dissident Claims China Released COVID At Military World Games In October 2019

Dana Mathewson

More info on COVID:

In a shocking revelation that raises serious challenges for the official narrative about COVID's origins inside China, new claims from an exiled CCP whistleblower allege that Chinese agents released COVID at an international sporting event in Wuhan in October 2019.

In effect, it was the first super-spreader event, and it didn't happen at a biker rally in South Dakota.

CCP insider Wei Jingsheng claims that Chinese agents deliberately spread COVID during the World Military Games in October 2019. The whistleblower also claimed he tried to warn the Trump Administration about COVID five months before the pandemic began.

The international tournament for military athletes was held in Wuhan, where sick patients would start overwhelming hospitals and dropping dead in the streets not even three months later after Beijing notified the WHO on New Years about the outbreak. After the games, Wei claims, some of the 9,000 athletes who attended were sickened with a mysterious illness, including French, American and German athletes. [emphases in original]

"I thought the Chinese government would take this opportunity to spread the virus during the Military Games, as many foreigners would show up there," Wei said in a new Sky News documentary entitled 'What Really Happened in Wuhan?'.

"(I knew) of the possibility of the Chinese government using some strange weapons, including biological weapons, because I knew they were doing experiments of that sort," he said.

The World Military Games, like the Olympic Games for military athletes, were held in Wuhan from October 19-27, 2019.

Wei claims he went to senior figures in the Trump Administration all the way back in November 2019, but was ignored. We now know cases of COVID may have been spreading in the US at that time - and certainly before Christmas 2019.While he wouldn't say which official he spoke to, he claims they were a "senior official" in Trump's Administration.

I find it very disturbing that the Trump Administration ignored this man. I'd like to know why, but doubt we'll find out. Could they have deemed him not credible?

Black Lives Matter Is Threatening An ‘Uprising’ Against ‘Racist’ Vaccine Mandates

Dana Mathewson

I love watching the Left eating its own.

It’s a rule in the national media that vaccine hesitancy is worthy of shame and scorn, right up until it collides with their most precious cause, the Black Lives Matter movement.

Hesitant (white) nurses? Outcast.

Hesitant (white) Facebook moms? Shun.

Hesitant (white) Trump supporters? Guillotine.

But there’s oddly been no prescription for the Black Lives Matter crew in New York who are accusing the city of racial discrimination by mandating vaccines for public, indoor activity.

Hawk Newsome, the co-founder and chairman of Black Lives Matter Greater New York, was quoted Saturday in the New York Times saying that restaurants "are using vaccine mandates to enforce their racist beliefs and excluding black patrons.”

At a protest Monday in front of New York restaurant Carmine’s, Chivona Newsome, also a co-founder of the group, said of the vaccine mandates, "What is going to stop the Gestapo, I mean the NYPD, from rounding up black people, from snatching them off the train, off the bus?”

She further issued the threat that BLM was "putting this city on notice that your mandate will not be another racist social distance practice” and that "Black people are not going to stand by, or you will see another uprising .” She said vaccine verification "is not a free passport to racism.”

The catalyst for those remarks was an incident at Carmine’s last week wherein three black women from Texas were charged for assaulting a hostess at the restaurant, allegedly over a vaccine verification dispute and, as a lawyer for the women subsequently claimed, because the hostess, who is of Asian descent, used a racial slur.

The Incredible Flattening Beer

Timothy Birdnow

I wrote this was coming a few years ago.

Looks like it's actually happening in Britain now.

From Michael Lucas:

Interesting news coming out of the U.K. now. Food supplies in danger due to a lack of???? CO2 for packing and preserving. Especially for those foods so many of the woke brigade use, like Coca Cola, Pepsi, beer and a whole host of soft drinks, and they also say are bad for us, chicken, ham, bacon, pork.
Just as well an Australian Oil and Gas company has found a new well to supply huge amounts of it!

Word of Warning

Jim Church

Opponents of nuclear power seem to think every reactor is a Chernobyl waiting to happen, which is not even true of older Western designs let alone modern ones. But when the manufacturer of an electric vehicle warns you to keep it away from anything you value, it’s time to admit that all the boosterism about the coming transition to electric vehicles, from people who knew as much about economics as they did about engineering, is dangerous make-believe not just at the level of national economies and budgets but in the personal lives of well-meaning individuals.

ALICE IN WONDERLAND (Economics)....Our Central Bank...

Steven Chase

The Federal Reserve keeps rates at (effectively) zero percent.
When nobody buys the bonds (debt) at those rates, they step in and buy.
Currently, the FED has bought and owns $2.43 TRILLION of that debt; and is currently buying $625 Billion per MONTH. (2020)
The 'noise' you've been hearing - The FED is about to reduce that to $80 Billion/month soon. At least, that's what's forecast.

If this sounds unreal..... IT IS! Venezuela here we come!

Why They Hate Israel

Timothy Birdnow

On Facebook Dallas Jackson asked:

Why does Biden and his Marxist democrats hate Israel and Jews so much. Do you know what’s at the core of this hatred.

I answered:

Because Israel disproves their worldview. It shows that there is a God and He has kept his promise to the Jews.

If that is allowed to stand then the rest of the Left's beliefs all fall. Then the Bible is correct and the laws in the Bible are binding.

Liberalism thrives on its disobedience to the Biblical rules and its embrace of materialism and self-willed living. Israel suggest that the old beliefs are true as opposed to the modern collectivism. The Left cannot abide it. It's the ultimate buzzkill for them.

Biden Condemns Vote Fraud - in Russia

Timothy Birdnow

Irony is a lost art, and is largely wasted on modernity where it goes entirely unrecognized.

Take the recent elections in Russia.

In the most recent elections Putin's party has pretty much cleaned up. Why?

Well, for starters, Google and Apple removed a series of apps designed to help people find candidates not affiliated with Mr. Putin. Kind of like the way Google suppressed information that would hurt Joe Biden. Or like Facebook did too.

From the article:

Putin's highest-profile critic Alexei Navalny has already been jailed and with his organizations banned for being "extremist," anyone associated with his groups was excluded from running in this weekend's parliamentary and local elections.

On Friday, a 'Smart Voting' app produced by Navalny's group, which informed supporters which candidate was most likely to unseat Putin-supporting United Russia politicians, was removed by both Apple and Google. The Telegram app popular in Russia soon followed suit.AFP news agency sources said the companies faced threats of serious criminal charges and incarceration of local staff.

Navalny's team still sought to release the same information via publicly available Google Docs lists and YouTube videos, but by the early hours of Sunday these too had been blocked. Google, which owns YouTube, did not immediately respond to news agencies' requests for comment.

Opposition groups blamed Russia's media regulator Roskomnadzor. When the Google Docs and YouTube videos were published as a back-up, Navalny's banned Anti-Corruption Foundation tweeted, "How quickly will Roskomnadzor write another request and YouTube will fulfill it? Let's see."

Sooo...the same people who helped get Biden elected and who stoked the "Russian collusion" lie about Trump helped Putin stay in power.

There's more:

There have been widespread claims of electoral fraud. The Golos election-monitoring movement, which authorities branded a "foreign agent" ahead of the polls, and independent media reported thousands of violations.

The alleged fraud includes vote-buying and lax measures for guarding ballots at polling stations. Golos claims included ballots being stored overnight in a cabinet with a broken door, while envelopes for storing ballot tallies appeared to have been opened and then resealed.

Central Elections Commission head Ella Pamfilova said that more than 6,200 ballots had been annulled in five regions for procedural violations and ballot-stuffing. Pamfilova included reports of voting "coercion."

Friday's opening day featured unexpectedly long lines at some polling places, with independent media suggesting state institutions and companies could be forcing employees to vote. Online voting, new limits on independent election observers and the polls being spread over three days were also cited as opportunities for mass voting fraud.

Media in St. Petersburg reported suspected cases of "carousel voting," in which voters cast ballots at several polling stations. An AP video journalist saw the same voters, believed to be military school students, at two different polling stations.

A local Russian election commission member posted a video in which a man appeared to have tried to cast several ballots and then was confronted by a poll worker. The man in the video said he had obtained his ballots at a subway station.

Sound familiar?

In the past Putin has favorably compared Biden and the Bolsheviks. And Putin, being an old Bolshevik himself and supported by the Communist Party by and large, should know.

In a case of complete cluelessness Joe Biden condemned the vote fraud in this election.

He is the apex of lack of self-awareness!

Putin no doubt got the idea from Mr. Biden himself.

I guess elections are only unfair when other people stuff the box, eh Joe?
