Wine is Now Racist

Timothy Birdnow

The Problem of Whiteness in White Wine

Wine isn't "diverse enough"?

Nobody is stopping black people from getting into the wine industry, or stopping them from drinking it. It's their choice.

But these days choice is immaterial; it's always white racism. Yeah; all those Klansmen sat around sipping chardonnay before burning their crosses!

Hew boy!

1 Eff you, Lefties! I'm white but I much prefer red wine. That doesn't mean I'm a socialist, by the way. So: what'cha gonna do about it? [settles chip firmly onto his shoulder]

2 Well Dana you're a jazz musician so I guess that means it's understandable. But I'm not and I much prefer red to white wine.

3 Actually, most of the jazz musicians of my time were into beer, dope and the "hard stuff." I'll swill beer with the best of them and toss back "hard stuff" likewise. Have never ever gone for dope!

4 I was just kiddin; jazz musicians aren't noted oenophiles Dana.  You don't really picture jazz musicians drinking a lot of wine either way - red or white.  (But especially not white.)  Your appreciation of wine probably makes you unusual in that regard.

One of these days I'm going to have to make it up to the great white north and throw back a few beers or whatnot with you!

5 Either you come here or we'll have to come your way. If we do that, however, you'll miss out on a couple of good local beers, unless we remember to bring them.
Oh, jazz musicians drink wing -- chiefly muscatel, of course.

6 *WINE*  Darn fingers aren't working well today. Played a wedding yesterday and must have overdone the celebrating afterwards...

7 I remember having Lake Superior beers when Cathy and I went on vacation on the North Shore. Wonderful brewery!  I tried to buy it online but they didn't have a reciprocal arrangement with Missouri (meaning they couldn't ship it here.) I have tasted other Minnesota brews and loved them all.

St. Louis has some mighty fine breweries too, but everyone here loves wheat beers, something I generally dislike. I much prefer the crisper brews.

I figured you were just mangling words for affect, Dana; after all, if Jazz musicians drink muscadine...

Sounds like you had a fun gig there!
