My daughter Christine Spencer-Aycock is in the situation described in this Politico article: she and her husband both work, and their two boys need to be either in school or in childcare. School reopening in their Florida district has been delayed for at least a few weeks, with in-class instruction still uncertain. Parents are reluctant to let kids play together, and the government is not following through on how those taxes should be spent in state-supported childcare facilities, which have been closed due to COVID. Kids are bouncing off the walls at home while two parents are trying to do their jobs AND attend to young, energetic children. Meanwhile the children's learning has been put on hold, jeopardizing society's future progress. The current situation is unsustainable.... those who pay taxes are now barely able to keep the current system on life support. The country must be allowed to get back to work (and school). As my daughter phrased it, "we can't stop living to prevent dying".

No doubt they are setting up for free government child care. They won't reopen the schools but they'll demand free preschool. The Left never sleeps and always tries to make lemonade from whatever sour fruit their policies produce.

We are not going to "beat" this virus, any more than we have beaten the annual flu, and for the same reasons. We have learned to live with the flu, and we are going to have to learn to live with this thing. We are not going to do that by hiding from it. We have to face it, and teach our bodies to cope with it, just as we cope with the seasonal flu, chicken pox, smallpox, colds, and all the rest.

They used to have a "vaccine" for smallpox before the real vaccine was developed. It was a weakened dose of the virus - and it caused people to be horribly ill with smallpox! In the end you wound up with immunity but the cure was pretty terrible. So nobody got it and there were waves of smallpox outbreaks and a lot of people died with their faces melting off their skulls. We simply adapted. Nobody ever suggested we shut America down because of it.
Oh, and historians I know have told me that business about white people trading infected blankets to Indians to kill them is dubious at best; there was too great a danger of it spreading to the white settlers.
