Drunken Sanders Sings

Timothy Birdnow

Hear the Bern! I guess he had a bit too much Internation-ale.

Bernie sings.

"Recently discovered footage from 1988 reveals a shirtless Bernie Sanders with his wife, Jane, on their honeymoon in the USSR, drunkenly singing ‘This Land Is Your Land’ with a group of presumed Soviets,” Justin captioned the clip, which was surfaced byanother Sanders detractoron Twitter.

This Land Is Your Land” has been known to be Marxist version of the anthem made in response to "God Bless America.”

The hours of footage include a scene of Sanders sitting with his delegation at a table under a portrait of Vladimir Lenin. Sanders can also be heard extolling the virtues of Soviet life and culture, even as he acknowledges some of their shortcomings. There are flashes of humor, too, such as his host warning the American guests not to cross the KGB, or else.

1 More and more, I'm getting the impression that Bernie never really wanted to work for a living.

2 Former boss of mine sent me what purports to be Sanders' "resume'" -- yep, the guy never wanted to work a day in his life. I'll give him this: he was raised in a dysfunctional family, but that's no excuse, as many wonderful citizens have been able to say the same thing and (if you'll pardon the expression) pulled themselves up by their own bootstraps. Bernie spent his early years yelling about how he thought things ought to be rather than actually doing anything about the situation.

Oh, wait. . .

3 I don't think he wanted to work either Dana.

I've known people from bad families who have made good people of themselves. One friend of mine came from a horrible family. His mother died when he was young and his father was an alcoholic who neglected them. My friend was living on his own at the age of 15. His brother was murdered in a drug deal gone sour in Florida. He went to school and graduated, went to college and nursing school, and has had a wife and family for a quarter of a century now. He's a good, church-going man who volunteers his time to charity work and never fails to help others. What you might call a pillar of the community. But you would never have believed he would have a chance given his upbringing.

You never know.
