President Donald Chump

Timothy Birdnow

His journey to Jimmy Carterism is nearing completion. The once-proud king of negotiations appears to be a shell of his former self, signing on to the despicable deal made by his own party and the Open Borders socialists of the Democrats. It was so bad that Rush Limbaugh - who tried vainly to defend Trump on Friday (and wound up sounding like Karl Rove or some other apologists for the cowardice of the GOP) then announced he wasn't even going to show up for work on Monday. There really was no way to defend Trump's complete surrender in this border wall fight.

Trump, the supposed Great Negotiator, got hornswoggled.

I posted about the deal yesterday; it is full of poison pills, a veritable Walgreens of evil medications. First, they got Trump down from 25 billion to 1.3 billion, and then they only allow construction in Texas. There is a lot of private land in Texas and the bill requires they build there first while the public land must undergo strict environmental impact studies. The Rio Grande is settled heavily by Mexicans, and they are a solid Democratic voting block (they elected Beto O'Rourke, for instance.) The landowners along there may well refuse. Oh, and this bill gives the right of refusal to local governments, making it almost certain that very little of the wall will be built and what is build will be completely ineffective. Meanwhile this amnetizes some of the really bad criminals coming in, because it stops deportation of any "sponsor" of an unaccompanied minor. All the gangsters have to do is claim that status. It doubles H2B visas, meaning twice as many people will be allowed in to take labor jobs from American minorities and young people and perhaps overstay their visas. And it reduces the number of beds available at detention centers, so as to force "catch and release" policies back on ICE. It was worse than the dirty trick played on Ronald Reagan. And, by signing this, Trump has undermined his argument that we have an emergency at the border; he is acknowledging that the problem has been adequately addressed. Trump rejected better deals offered by the Democrats than the one he wound up with. And it won't be a wall, but a metal barrier aka a fence.

And President Chump, er, Trump signed it yesterday.

Mitch McConnell sent in the worst Open Borders type RINOS to negotiate the deal, while the Democrats sent in their true sharks, guys like Dick Durbin. McConnell was not working in good faith here; he doesn't want a wall any more than the Democrats. Trump was foolish enough to trust him.

He could have kept the government shut down and still issued the state of emergency so as to say to the Dems "we're building anyway. You can be on board or your core constituency - the government workers - will suffer." He didn't do it. Instead he re-opened the government just as the pressure was mounting. He threw in his hand. And now, instead of holding firm he actually SIGNED the bill, which is worse than no agreement at all with the poison pills.

And Trump said that the Donkeys were going to shut him down in court. The least Trump could do is file first to get it in a friendly court. It sounds like he's just given up - just as he did with the Obamacare repeal.

He's mishandled this from beginning to end, and Nancy Pelosi is now Prime Minister, and Trump is now reduced to the role of the Queen. Nobody is going to take any threats from Trump seriously after this. He's beaten. Pelosi is slurping champagne while driving her Bentley over Trump's White House lawn.

Sadly, Mr. Trump's heart may be in the right place but his head has failed him. He could have shut the government down when the Republicans pushed that big omnibus with no funding for the wall (which should have tipped him off as to their intentions.) Then it may have hurt The Party but they would have caved at the time. Trump didn't do that, and word is that Ryan lied to him about it, promising to put it on the agenda. There was no way Trump could expect more out of the Democrats. At least the GOP was afraid of a shutdown.

In fact, President Trump has largely failed at accomplishing much of anything, at least where Congress is concerned and he has broken plenty of campaign promises. First, he promised to drain the Swamp and then refilled it with more Swamp rats. He has appointed over 187 former lobbyists to his Administration despite promises to purge public service of for-profit mercenaries. He appointed Mitch McConnell's wife, an eternal GOP Administration rodent, to run the department of Transportation. He appointed Reince Preibus, the former head of the GOP, his chief of staff. He put in Steve Mnuchin from One West Bank as Treasury Secretary, former Bush flunky William Barr at the DOJ, Rex Tillerson at State, Tom Price at HHS, Gary Cohn, the Goldman Sachs guy, as an economic adviser. In short, he refilled the Swamp with new parasites. Why? Surely he could have found people in Middle America capable of doing those jobs.

Trump supported Luther Strange and all the other RINO Republicans supported by Mitch McConnell. Had he backed Mo Brooks at the beginning the Alabama Senate seat would be in Republican hands - in CONSERVATIVE Republican hands.

Both Brett Kavanaugh and Neil Gorsuch were from deep inside the Swamp and as yet I still lack trust in them.

President Trump promised to end Obamacare and failed. The best he got was an Executive Order repealing (for now) the individual mandate.

President Trump promised to investigate Hillary Clinton and her compadres and has failed to do so. Hillary clearly broke the law with the Clinton Foundation and her Uranium One deal.

Trump promised to ban immigration from terrorist countries. He tried and failed and now that is a forgotten promise. Of course, Middle Easterners are pouring across the southern border, but now we do not have a fence to stop them.

Trump has not gotten a deal with the North Koreans nor with the Chinese.

It isn't that he isn't trying, far from it. But I don't think we can accept a participation trophy here; the stakes are just too high.

Why hasn't he shut the Mueller Probe down yet? He ought to have an independent counsel investigating THEM for some of the terrible tactics (like sending in storm troopers to arrest Roger Stone int eh wee hours of the morning, or keeping Paul Manafort in solitary confinement - a violation of U.N. protocols against torture. Mueller's probe is full of people who have stated their animus against Trump (like Strzok, Page, Bruce and Nellie Ohr, etc.) and it is clear there is a personal effort underway to overturn the election results. Why isn't that being investigated?

Trump keeps trying to play the game the Swamp way. It's not what he was elected to do.

I believe this surrender to Pelosi on the Wall is the end of Mr. Trump. I hope I am wrong, but he has shown himself to be unable to actually take the fight to them.

He should never have caved on reopening the government.

If you plot against the King you had better succeed. Trump plotted against the Ruling Class, and he is failing. He will do irreparable harm to the notion that an outsider can come in and make real change. He needs to get back to his roots, quit playing footsie with the media (why did he let Acosta back into the White House, for instance?) and the Democrats and, for the love of all things holy QUIT WORKING WITH MITCH MCCONNELL!!! McConnell is his biggest enemy, and an enemy of the American People.

Trump needs to work for regime change in the GOP.
