The ACLU has decided not to try to collect signatures to put a ban on abortion after eight weeks on the ballot for a vote. The law goes into effect on August 28.
The ACLU says they do not have enough time to gather the 100,000 signatures needed to place the law on the ballot.
Well, that and it probably would fail; Missouri is solidly pro-life and the ACLU would not want to be embarrassed by having the referendum go down in defeat.
The ACLU and Planned Parenthood had complained that Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft foot dragged on this, but the Sec. State's office says they followed all normal protocols, and certified the petition five days early. Planned Parenthood and the ACLU have tried to block the law in court.
I think this is a powerful sign that the power of these two evil institutions is waning. Five years ago they would have managed to block this law.
