I know this is a parody and is supposed to be tongue in cheek, but haven't the Indians had enough of people colonizing their land? They are trying to make a satirical point here, but shouldn't they stand with the whites in trying to keep a whole new batch of people out? It bespeaks a mindset that is dense, at minimum.

Cute, but are they going to deport other Native American tribes who invaded their territory? Consider the Sioux, who forced their way into the Black Hills uninvited about a hundred years before the whites came. They were hated by the indigenous tribes they displaced. In fact, Custer's guides were Indians who hated the invader Sioux. The same holds true of the Comanche, a mountain tribe native to New Miexico who invaded the Illiano in Texas. And don't ever forget that the Innuit - the Eskimo peoples - invaded Alaska from Asia long after the Indian tribes had settled there. There is plenty of invading to scold. The point is, when does someone stop it?

Say goodbye to bananas? A fungus may be among us, and killing the fruit.

Recently, officials in Colombia declared a national emergency after confirming the presence of this deadly fungus, known as Fusarium oxysporum Tropical Race 4 (TR4), in the country, according to the Colombian Agricultural Institute (ICA).
This is the first time the fungus has been detected in Latin America. However, the fungus isn't new — for decades, it has been devastating banana plantations in Asia, Australia and East Africa, Live Science previously reported.
Although this fungus isn't harmful to humans, it is a "serious threat" to banana production, according to the United Nations. The fungus attacks the plant's roots and blocks its vascular system — the network used to transport water and nutrients — and ultimately kills the plant. Once the fungus finds its way into soil, it can't be treated with fungicides, and it's very difficult to remove.
What's more, the fungus attacks the most commonly exported banana, the Cavendish banana. "For Western countries, the vast majority of the bananas we eat are from the same Cavendish subgroup," Nicolas Roux, a senior scientist at Bioversity International in France, told Live Science in a June interview.
Cavendish bananas reproduce asexually, meaning that the plants are essentially clones of their parents. This means banana crops lack genetic diversity, and infections can spread quickly.
"What we're having is an almost apocalyptic scenario where we'll probably lose Cavendish [banana]" Sarah Gurr, Exeter University’s chair in food security, told Wired
There are other types of bananas; we may have to switch. More likely, we may have to develop new breeds.
In the 19th century the world's wine industry was decimated by a nasty little mite called Phylloxera Vastatrix. A native of North America, this devastating little bug loved to dine on the roots of vinifera grape vines. American grapes, much hardier than their European cousins, had long come to terms with the little monsters and were immune to them, but the European varietals were completely destroyed. When Phylloxera made it's way to Europe the French vinyards all began to die. In an act of desperation the French began cross breeding experiments to create new, phylloxera resistant strains. These are known as French-American hybrids, and are the backbone of the wine industry east of the Rocky Mountains (Phylloxera had never penetrated west of the mountains so California was able to grow Vinifera grapes where those died in the east.)
In the eastern U.S. great effort had been made to produce American hybrids which made palatable wine, something hard to do with the sour, "foxy" tasting grapes. But the French were able to produce very good wine grapes, varieties such as Chancellor, Chambourcin, Seyval, Vidal, etc. They also planted some of the American varietals, like Norton or Clinton or Delaware or Elvira. But they wanted their traditional grape varieties, so they bought a bunch of root stock from Missouri and grafted the great vines onto the American stock. So the Cabernets, the Pinots, the Chardonnays all come from Missouri roots.
It worked, and when phylloxera appeared in California vineyards the snooty Californians went to France to get their Missouri root stocks; they looked down on their midwestern cousins.
At any rate, the world's wine industry was saved from a fate quite similar to the one that appears to be attacking bananas now. It may call for a bit of a different solution, but in the end someone will find a way to save the banana.
Thank all that is holy they didn't blame this on Global Warming. I'm sure someone will find a way at some point.

Trump wants to buy Greenland and develop her oil and mineral resources, according toan article in Live Science.

Denmark isn't likely to sell the last piece of her colonial empire.
So what would America get out of it? Well, we'd get a major chunk of land in the extreme north Atlantic and the Arctic, for starters. We operate a number of bases there, such as Thule, and it gives us a lot of protection from missile launches from Russia. The Russians have been expanding into the Arctic in violation of international law, and the Chinese have made noises about doing likewise. it makes sense for us to beef up our presence there. And we can develop the islands, unlike Denmark.
It would just depend on the price. How much would Denmark be willing to let them go for? Maybe we can use Greenland to house all of the illegal immigrants invading American soil? Just a thought.

I made a pilgrimage to the Ozark Hilton on Thursday. The weather was beautiful, but I didn't get there until late because a.I forgot it was the Feast of the Assumption, a Holy Day to Catholics and b. My dirty rotten no good cousin mentioned it on Facebook and I made the mistake of seeing her post, thus forcing me to delay my trip until after the noon mass. Had I forgotten I would have been off the hook, but I couldn't simply ignore it. Ah, life, thou art a heartless mistress!
Despite that I still made it down shortly after three, and the weather was spectacularly beautiful. I set back to work on the porch. I got the roof panels in place. I'm using some long pieces of vinyl siding for the roof; I had them laying around and so why not? They won't last forever, but they should be good for a few years, maybe more. They are intended for outside anyway. So I put them up, but I didn't nail them in. Why, you ask? First, I wanted to make sure the roof didn't leak before nailing them down. Second, I wanted to avoid stirring up those accursed wasps that attacked me two weeks ago. So I put them in place and used some packing tape to tape them down. That'll last a week or two, as long as we don't have a high wind. Fortunately the porch faces east, and most wind comes from the west.
I also found that I could use two by fours as pillars to support the roof rafters, something not absolutely necessary but it had been bothering me. I simply wedged them into place under a thin shelf board. I'll nail all of this together in a few weeks, when the wasps aren't so mean.
Actually it DID rain in the morning as I was getting ready to leave, postponing my departure. I found the roof leaking in spots. One spot was where I had stuffed an old bag - not anyone's wife or mother but an actual plastic one - into a spot where I wanted to push the plastic roof ot the new cabin up a bit. Turns out the bag was absorbing water and leaking. I pulled it out and stuck an old lisence plate into the gap. Worked fine! (Amazing the things I can make do with down there.)
The other leak presents a problem. I had apparently nailed the roof in too close, and so I can't get this roofing material far enough under the old roof. It's leaking right in front of the door, which will be a huge problem when it gets cold as ice will form there. I'll have to look at this; perhaps some spray foam insulation or liquic nails might seal the gap? Hopefully nothing will move around until I can actually nail all of this stuff down.
Anyway, the new porch - well half of one since I still have to build the other half but don't have the materials I need yet - makes this look like a true country cabin. I have an old rocking chair that has fallen apart, but which could be fixed with a little glue and painted. I'm going to leave that outside on the porch, giving it a real country look.
So I sat on my porch, lanterns hanging, in the cool of the evening. An owl hooted "hoot, hoot, hoot, hooooott, hoot". I replied in kind. Well, unfortunately he was a member of the lonely hearts club and was really hard up for a date. He kept hooting to me in a love sick manenr. I didn't respond; didn't want to be a tease! But he kept flying closer and closer until he was perched in a tree directly in front of the cabin 'hoot, hoot, hoot, Hoooot, hoot!" This old boy was hard up. I felt bad, hadn't meant to sound so coquettish. Eventually he moved on, and I heard him call as he flew northward. Luckily this has a happy ending; another owl returned his call! He may not have gotten a date, but at least he got some gal's phony phone number, at any rate. Good luck, old boy!
I heard a mouse inside the cabin scratching on things. I guess my friend the black ratsnake has moved on. A pity! The rodents had gone away this summer.
So, anyway, it was a pleasant and productive visit to the garbage palace in the pines.

A New York Democratic Congressman has had it with Chuck Schumer and the radicalization of the Democratic Party.

In his letter, which was posted on the assemblyman's Facebook page, Hikind castigated Schumer for promising to fight "for Democratic values" while providing little in means ndersubstance.
"Senator Schumer, in your letter you promise to fight for Democratic values and go on at great length to fully villainize the current administration, but you left out certain facts that my fellow Democrats, to say nothing of all Americans, should also be aware of," Hikind wrote.
The assemblyman lambasted Schumer and national Democrats for downplaying the impact the Trump administration has had in fostering economic growth
"You forgot to tell us about the economy. As good as it’s been, economists expect even more growth through the end of the year. That’s very good news," Hikind wrote. "You forgot to tell us about unemployment, which is lower than it has been in decades, while economic confidence is at a 17-year high."
Hikind also expressed support for the tax cuts proposed by the president and enacted by congressional Republicans.
"You forgot to tell us about tax cuts. I’m part of the middle class and now I’m getting a little extra in my paycheck," he wrote. "I’m happy about that and so are tens of millions of Americans, Senator."
Has the dike finally sprung a leak? Are Democrats about to abandon the good ship Socialism as it founders?

And don't rest easy! Once semi-automatics are gone, they'll go for those revolvers, bolt action rifles, slide and lever action long guns, and finally single-shot rifles and derringer pistols. After the guns are all gone they'll go after bows and arrows. These people are never satisfied. Never!Proving once again they're absolutely clueless on firearms, nearly 200 House Democrats have indicated their support for legislation banning all semi-automatic firearms nationwide.
They aren't just talking about the dreaded AR-15 here. Every new Glock, outlawed. My dad's old .22 Browning target pistol, which my 13-year-old insists I leave to him in my will, would be among the last of its kind. And -- try not to think about this too hard, or you'll cry -- the Colt 1911 .45, perhaps the American sidearm, would be no more.
We'll get revolvers and bolt-action rifles and that's about it.
The Assault Weapons Ban of 2019, authored by Rhode Island Democrat David Cicilline, would also ban "high capacity" magazines. Not that we'd have any new semi-automatic firearms to feed them into, anyway. Now that Rep. Joaquin Castro (D-Texas), brother of Democratic presidential candidate Julián Castro, and Rep. Cindy Axne (D-Iowa) are on board, the bill is just 20 votes away from passage through Nancy Pelosi's House.Showing she has absolutely no clue what she's talking about, Florida Democrat Frederica Wilson told The Hill on Wednesday, "Assault weapons were designed for one purpose: to kill people in war. Ordinary citizens should not own or have access to assault weapons." A .22 target pistol is now an "assault weapon." Good to know, Congresscritter!
House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) says he's looking at a huge list of possible new restrictions, including the above-mentioned bans on semi-automatics and "high capacity" magazines, along with banning those on the FBI's terrorist watch list from buying guns and nationwide "red flag" legislation.
Remember when Ted Kennedy found himself on the TSA's no-fly list and had trouble getting his name removed, even though he was a United States Senator with a (known) body count of just one? Imagine how well a typical American would fare, trying to get their name removed from the FBI's watch list if it somehow got on there by accident.

The NFL continues its inexplicable social justice hari-kari, this time partnering with Jayzee by turning over the decision making for the Superbowl halftime show to Jayzee's company.

Isn't it past time the NFL fired Roger Goodall? He is almost single-handedly bringing ruin onto the NFL. The league has yet to recover from all the Kaepernicking that he allowed. You can only insult your fan base so many times.
Frankly, I'm looking forward to the new football league that has just been formed.
So where IS Goodall on this?
Isn't it time the NFL was considered a trust, and treated accordingly? At the very least, we should boycott the liberal league. I have better things to do on a Sunday than be hectored by a bunch of millionaires.

A left-wing judge who helped an illegal alien escape from ICE by sneaking him out a back way from her court has had her pay restored by a the Massachussets Supreme court.
According to Newsweek:
A Massachusetts judge who was suspended in April over allegations she helped an immigrant escape immigration authorities by sneaking him out a courthouse back door is set to have her pay restored, as her own case continues to play out in court.
On Tuesday, the Supreme Judicial Court said it had revised an April order stripping Newton District Court Judge Shelley Joseph of her pay and benefits, allowing the judge to return to the payroll while her case continues.

As Newsweek had reported in December, Newton District Court Judge Shelley Joseph had been accused of helping defendant Jose Medina-Perez escape U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents during a court hearing.
Medina-Perez, a twice-deported immigrant, had been in court to face drug charges, according to The Boston Globe, which first broke the story. However, he also had an ICE detainer on his record.
An ICE detainer is essentially a written request from the federal immigration agency asking that local jail or other law enforcement detain an individual for up to 48 hours after their release in case ICE wants to take them into federal custody. Compliance with ICE detainers, unlike federal warrants, is voluntary.
According to the Globe, Medina-Perez's defense attorney had asked Joseph to approach the bench, raising the alarm that at least one agent was present in the courthouse, waiting to detain Medina-Perez.
Shortly after that conversation, the man was allegedly escorted downstairs, released from custody and allowed to leave the courthouse through a back door, evading ICE.
So, a state judge can flaunt Federal law with no fear of consequences. She should be arrested by Federal Marshals and charged with obstruction of justice, at a minimum. We can't keep letting people flout the law, judge or no.
Imagine if a conservative judge let a gun enthusiast sneak away so he couldn't be arrested; the media and the liberals would have a complete meltdown..

Georgia Democrat Stacey Abrams suggested that the Republican National Committee (RNC) might attempt to intimidate minority voters on Election Day, citing the end of a consent decree that blocked the party from challenging voter qualifications."They just lifted a consent decree that's kept Republicans and the RNC from going into local communities and intimidating voters by having off-duty officers tell people that they are monitoring their votes," Abrams told MSNBC's Rachel Maddow on Tuesday.
"For the first time since 1981, the RNC will be allowed to cheat and lie and go into polling places and scare voters, particularly voters of color."
RNC communications director Michael Ahrens responded by calling Abrams' statements "totally baseless," and claiming that the RNC tried to increase voter turnout.
"What she’s saying is totally baseless and irresponsible," he said in a statement to Fox News. "The RNC’s job is getting more people to vote, not less. If Abrams actually cared about the integrity of elections, she’d finally concede the governor’s race she lost by 55,000 votes. Even liberal election law experts have dismissed her claims as irresponsible and without merit."
I wonder if she has the words "I AM A VICTIM" written in lipstick on her bathroom mirror?
She also is quoted as saying she'd be "honored" to be the VP candidate for any of the Democrats currently running -- which is contrary to what she said awhile back when others were pushing for Joe Biden to tap her as his veep and she said "No Way" would she run with him.

A group of very progressive Roman Catholics in Portland, left to their own devices for too long and allowed to make up their own rules, is now bristling under a new pastor who is reminding them to which Church they belong.
St. Francis is one of the oldest churches in Portland. It has long been known as a bastion of progressive Catholic faith.
Parishioners have marched in the Portland Pride parade, fed and given shelter to people experiencing homelessness and worked to make the traditionally patriarchal institution more inclusive of women. For several years, a banner hung above the church steps that read "Immigrants & refugees welcome.
Now, the banner is missing. Vestments and one of several treasured photographs of the homeless community that had lined the walls of their parish had been piled in a trailer headed for the dump.
Many felt the new priest aimed to better align St. Francis with the archdiocese, who some feel is out of step with Catholics in Portland.
There is a lot of wrong to unpack in those paragraphs, beginning with the implication that helping the homeless is something that only "progressive" Catholics (which really isn't a thing) would do.
I should also point out that this lengthy, unquestioning article was not written by a religion reporter, which many newspapers still employ. Its author is a news intern according to his Twitter bio.
It matters not that "some" feel the archdiocese is "out of step with the Catholics in Portland." An archdiocese doesn't exist to adapt to the whims and social mores of a particular region. The Church would cease to exist in a matter of years were that the case.
There is a lot of confusion among the parishioners of St. Francis:
The Roman Catholic Church is rooted in tradition and hierarchy. Jerry Harp, chair of St. Francis’ pastoral council, is struggling to understand how he relates to this structure of authority. It was this hierarchy that was roiling his parish.
Harp considers himself a devout Catholic. He starts every morning with mediation and prayer and prays the Hail Mary at least once a day. He tries to attend Mass every Sunday. When he was in his 20s, he said he wanted to follow every rule he could. Now he questions how those rules bring him closer to God.
The hierarchy that Harp struggles with traces itself all the way to St. Peter in the Roman Catholic Church. That's actually one of the big selling points for those of us who don't find ourselves roiled by it.
And talking to a Roman Catholic who is complaining about rules is like meeting a boxer who says he wants to keep fighting but doesn't want to get hit anymore.

A WORD FROM TIM, A PRACTICING CATHOLIC:

Catholicism is a top down religion, not a democracy. If you don't want to listen to Apostolic authority you should find another Church. You could always become an Old Catholic, for instance.
I love that line:

He says ONE HAIL MARY? ONE? Not a full Rosary, not a Decade, just one single prayer? And this guy thinks he's devout. Oh, and he "tries" to attend Mass every Sunday. Sunday attendance is mandatory, and is the absolute minimum required of every Catholic. This guy is as devout as Nancy Pelosi.
Social justice is not at the core of Catholicism. Catholicism (indeed, all of Christianity) is about first and foremost the salvation of souls. There really is no other purpose. It is better to suffer a horrendous life here for eternal life forever. That is not to say we do not do the corporal works of mercy, but we don't do them to actually fix some societal wrong but to practice for the afterlife. God has the power to fix societal ills. They serve His purposes, though. Poverty was created by God when He cast Adam and Eve out of the Garden of Eden and cursed the ground. So, while God does not like us being poor and we are supposed to help the poor, in the end that is not the principle mission of the Church - salvation is. The primary role of Catholicism is to keep people out of Hell.
Too bad these modern Progressive Catholics can't see that. They are going to let many go to Hell in their holier-than-thou pursuit of tolerance and social justice.

Over the past three decades, under supposed supervision by the US Food and Drug Administration and other government regulatory agencies, the organic food industry expanded from less than $4 billion in revenue in 1997 into a $52.5-billion-a-year (2018) behemoth – in part by blatantly ignoring rules that prohibit companies from making unproven, unsubstantiated, deceptive and blatantly false claims about its products, and about conventional and biotech (GE or GMO) products. Companies in other industries have been sent Warning Letters, fined, or told to cease marketing their products until they end their false advertising claims. But not Big Organic.
Organic producers and sellers claim they use "no toxic persistent chemicals,†for example; that biotech foods threaten human health and the environment; that organic farming is more sustainable; and that organic fruits and vegetables are tastier and more nutritious ... among many other questionable assertions. The claims are evidence-free or outright false. And yet government regulators let them go unchallenged, to the great detriment of conventional and biotech farming and sales, and American families. It’s time for the FDA – and EPA, DOA and FTC – to enforce the law. more...

Once again the Gang-greenous gang at the World Economic Forum try to pull the wool over our eyes with another doomsday prediction of mass starvation. This time they claim crop yields are down in the U.S. due to - you guessed it - Global Warming, and we are all going to starve if we don't end our use of fossil fuels.

In the United States corn and soybeans are important cash crops, with a combined value of more than US$90 billionin 2017. We found that climate change is causing a small net increase in yields of these crops – on average, about 0.1% and 3.7% respectively each year.
But these numbers reflect both gains and losses. In some Corn Belt states, such as Indiana and Illinois, climate change is shaving up to 8% off of annual corn yields. At the same time, it has boosted annual yields in Iowa and Minnesota by approximately 2.8%. All four of these states now have slightly warmer and wetter corn growing seasons, but Indiana and Illinois have seen larger increases in warming and smaller increases in moisture compared to Iowa and Minnesota.
Our maps track these changes down to the county level. In eastern Iowa, Illinois and Indiana, climate change has been reducing corn yields even as it boosts them to the northwest in Minnesota and North Dakota. We see similar patterns for soybean farming: Reductions are moving up from the south and east parts of the country, where slightly more warming has occurred than in states farther north. Climate change is also reducing overall yields of other important crops, such as wheat and barley.
Notice they discuss THIS YEAR'S WEATHER and mistake it for climate. It's been cool, as the article admits, which puts the lie to the whole notion of climate being warmed by CO2. You can't have it both ways, although they have tried by changing the name from Global Warming to Climate Change. But weather and climate aren't the same thing.
Oh, and once again, it is based on a computer model that required quite a bit of "smoothing" to produce aka data tampering. The authors clearly had an agenda to promote this ridiculous notion.
But, the proof in the pudding is in the eating, and food prices have not skyrocketed. The market tells you what is happening, and this isn't it.
If farmers aren't growing as much this year, how much does that have to do with current policy? In case everyone missed it, the U.S. has been in a trade war with China and they aren't buying our agricultural products, so why plant as much? Also, notice that the article mentions Illinois as being seriously impacted while Iowa - just across the Mississippi at the same latitude - is doing better. This is logically inconsistent, until one realizes that Illinois has put in a huge tax raiser, who has raised the price of fuel considerably. Is it any surprise?
This is just another hysterical rant.
One more thing; this is the same tired claim made by every environmental alarmist through history, starting with Thomas Malthus in the late eighteenth century on down through Paul Ehrlich in the seventies. It has NEVER come to pass; we've always found ways to produce more food. In fact, we are now at a point where most of the world has more than enough to eat - something that was not true thirty years ago. We are at the point of ending poverty, and that because of the triumph of free market capitalism. Socialism brings food shortages and poverty - just look at Venezuela today. In fact, the fall of the Soviet Union was in no small part because of food shortages; the mighty empire couldn't feed her own people with the horrible socialist system in place. So, a bunch of people want to fundamentally alter the world economic order to reimpose this failed system, and then when people starve they'll blame it on Climate Change and "greedy capitalists", you know, the guys who actually produced enough food for the whole world.

Amazing! Absolutely amazing. Can it be that these bozos do not know about the separation of the three branches of our government? Often it does appear they are ignorant of the contents of the Constitution, but this truly defies belief.Several high-profile Senate Democrats warned the Supreme Court in pointed terms this week that it could face a fundamental restructuring if justices do not take steps to "heal" the court in the near future.
The ominous and unusual warning was delivered as part of a brief filed Monday in a case related to a New York City gun law. Sens. Sheldon Whitehouse, D-R.I., Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., Mazie Hirono, D-Hawaii, Richard Durbin, D-Ill., and Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y., referenced rulings by the court's conservative majority in claiming it is suffering from some sort of affliction which must be remedied.
"The Supreme Court is not well. And the people know it," the brief said. "Perhaps the Court can heal itself before the public demands it be 'restructured in order to reduce the influence of politics.'"
The last part was quoting language from a Quinnipiac University poll, in which 51 percent favored such restructuring. In the same poll, 55 percent believed the Supreme Court was "motivated by politics" more than by the law.
Dramatic changes to the Supreme Court have been proposed by several Democrats vying for their party's 2020 presidential nomination, with "court-packing" being a common -- though highly controversial -- suggestion. Increasing the number of justices on the court would allow the president to shift the balance on the bench by loading up justices of his or her preference.
What could possibly go wrong?
Every time these clowns open their mouths, all the dumb runs out. And the hypocrisy is stunning. They talk about wanting to "reduce the influence of politics" on the Court, but what they really want is for the Court to act as another legislative body, under the control of the Democrats, of course.Democratic candidates, including former Rep. Beto O’Rourke of Texas, and Sens. Cory Booker of New Jersey, Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts, Kamala Harris of California, and Gillibrand, all have signaled an openness to expanding the number of judges on the court should they reach the White House.
South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg has also supported expanding the court, proposing a plan to have some justices appointed by the president and others selected by the other justices in order to "depoliticize" the court. He's admitted that the only way he can think of to make this work would be to increase the size of the court from nine justices to 15, while stressing that simply "adding more justices onto the court who agree with you" would be a bad idea.

Yet, on July 9, Reuters News Agency reported"Democratic lawmakers, including six presidential candidates, on Tuesday unveiled a Congressional resolution declaring a climate change emergency to spur ‘sweeping reforms’ to stem a dangerous rise in global temperatures. The non-binding resolution, introduced by Democratic Representatives Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Earl Blumenauer and Senator Bernie Sanders, ‘demands a national, social, industrial and economic mobilization’ to ‘halt, reverse, mitigate and prepare for the consequences of the climate emergency and to restore the climate for future generations.’â€
In an effort to drum up support for its costly ‘carbon tax,’ the Liberal government of Canada has also announced a climate emergency. Britain’s parliament has declared a climate change emergency as well, "backing a call by opposition Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn for ‘rapid and dramatic action’ to protect the environment after… weeks of protests by the Extinction Rebellion climate movement,â€according to Reuters. The Climate Mobilization group exclaimedthat "Over 790 local governments in 17 countries have declared a climate emergency and committed to action to drive down emissions at emergency speed.â€

The good folks at Conservative Hq discuss the planned backdoor gun grab by the house of Representatives.
I don't have a lot to add. I agree; it's nothing but a way to take guns, and will do nothing to stop these mass shootings. My purpose here is to tell a little story about a mass shooting which ultimately allowed me to come into being.
Back in the '20's my flapper grandmother decided to attend a movie in Baden, a rather rough working class neighborhood in the north part of the City of St. Louis. While there a man in the back row opened fire on the theater. My grandmother was shot in the hand and had to spend a few days in the hospital. My grandfather had been trying to court her, but she didn't especially like him and had no plans to pursue the relationship. But while she was hospitalized he came out every day - the only one of her friends to visit her. It was at that point that she decided to take a closer look at Mr. Birdnow.
One thing led to another and they were married, she gave birth to my dad, and so I am here because of a mass shooting.
One never knows the twists of Fate, or how God's Will can take something bad and turn it to good.

It should be pointed out that lightning strikes in the Arctic are rare but they do happen on occasion. Given the situation up there, with a moving north magnetic pole and a variation between high and low pressure zones as is the case now, we should expect lightning.
