Repentence for the Reputational Rape of Roy Moore

Timothy Birdnow

Billionaire Reid Hoffman, head of Linkedin, has apologized for dirty tactics he funded against Alabama Senatorial candidate Roy Moore.

According to Newser:

The LinkedIn co-founder said in a statement Wednesday that he regrets funding the "highly disturbing" work of American Engagement Technologies, which has been linked to the spread of disinformation on social media, to undermine the campaign of Republican Senate candidate Roy Moore, the Washington Post reports. Operatives allegedly created social media pages in an effort to split the conservative vote and faked evidence that large numbers of Russian bots were supporting Moore.

Hoffman associates say he donated $750,000 to AET, of which around $100,000 went toward the social media disinformation campaign, the New York Times reports. "I want to be unequivocal: there is absolutely no place in our democracy for manipulating facts or using falsehoods to gain political advantage," Hoffman said in a statement. He said he supported numerous groups, and was "embarrassed" by his failure to monitor AET "more diligently." Democratic Sen. Doug Jones, who narrowly defeated Moore in the Alabama race, has denounced the disinformation tactics and called for a federal investigation. (Moore is suing Sacha Baron Cohen over his Who Is America appearance.)

End excerpt.

What is it that they say? Easier to apologize than ask permission; I find it odd that these left-wing billionaire activist types always find religion after their victory, and never before.

What was done to Roy Moore was a disgrace. His reputation was permanently ruined as a result (and I've never accepted that the woman in question - and there was only one credible accusation against Moore - was telling the truth. She would have come out long, long before she did; Moore was Chief Justice of the Alabama Supreme Court, for crying out loud. But when he runs for the Senate against a big leftist, the story suddenly breaks. Right.

I don't just condemn the Democrats or the media, either; the GOP, led by Mitch McConnell, worked actively to make Moore fail when they couldn't get their own RiNO candidate (the aptly named Luther Strange). The downfall of Moore was like something out of Greek tragedy, only there was no nobility anywhere to be found and the Furies did not descend on Moore's accusers. It's too bad, but it may well happen yet.

Oh, Hoffman; where does Moore go to get his reputation back?
