Once again, Pope Francis upends established Christian dogma. This time the volatile vicar blames God for Sins of the flesh, telling a gay man "God made you that way" in and thus excusing what has been understood as a mortal sin.
According to the Fox News article:
"Cruz reportedly told El Pais, a Spanish newspaper, that the two had a conversation about his homosexuality and said he was told, "Juan Carlos, I don’t care about you being gay. God made you that way and loves you as you are and I don’t mind. The pope loves you as you are, you have to be happy with who you are.â€
The Los Angeles Times reported that the Vatican did not confirm the pope’s comments given that it was a private conversation." End excerpt.
While Francis has upheld traditional Catholic teaching which says homosexuality is a sin that leads to eternal damnation, he has been unusually cavalier about it, once saying it was above his pay grade'"Who am I to judge?" he notoriously stated during his first press conference in 2013. Well, he's the POPE, and that's why he's paid the big bucks. If he didn't want to warn people they are going to Hell he shouldn't have accepted the position of Pontiff.
Technically speaking, the Pope could be excused for this in that, while he is blaming God for this rather than human sin, he is saying that God loves the man regardless, which is true, but it sends a terrible message to those who listen to the Pope. Paul said unequivocally in 1Corinthians 6:9
"Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind"
And the Old Testament makes homosexuality a capital offense. It is clear that homosexuality is a grave sin, something that God does not excuse lightly. While He will forgive it, the homosexual must repent.
And in the next verse it says quite plainly "such WERE some of you". You have to be penitent first. But Francis seems eager to forgive where there is no repentance, and to excuse sins that people don't want to surrender. He probably feels this is in the spirit of Jesus, but it is rather in the spirit of Satan, who is quick to encourage sinfulness.
And people may or may not be "born that way" (I argue they aren't but choose a route that carries them there but I may be wrong0 but people are "born that way" in many other ways and choose not to indulge themselves. There are would-be pedophiles, would be murderers, would be adulterers, would be necrophiles etc. who just don't do it. If a man is homosexual he is not culpable morally unless and until he indulges. Of course, men who are heterosexual are also not supposed to indulge themselves unless they are married.
The first, most fundamental job of the Pope is to keep people out of Hell, not to help their self-esteem. He is doing irreparable harm.

The Catholic Church and all Popes - including this one - have acknowledged that homosexuality is a sin. Francis can't change that now on a whim.
