Mollie Tibbetts murder suspect allegedly passed E-Verify system

Dana Mathewson

Looking back a few weeks, I note that we have ignored the story of poor Mollie Tibbetts, missing from her home for around a month and just turning up dead, apparently murdered by an illegal alien farmhand working a few miles from her home. I hasten to add that in this country, people are, or should be, considered innocent unless or until proven guilty. However, in this story the farmhand tends to convict himself by his words. There was no lawyer present, however, and when this case goes to court you can be sure the story will change.

The reason I'm posting this is to call attention to the apparent fact that he may have beaten the E-Verify system. Now, we know that no system put in place by a government is perfect (now that I've said that in public, I imagine I can expect a loud knock on my front door soon), but. . . Well, let's see what the article has to say:

The Mexican national accused of murdering college student Mollie Tibbetts in Iowa last month lived in the United States illegally for several years -- but was reportedly still able to pass a government system designed to weed out illegal immigrants from obtaining American jobs by using a stolen ID.

Cristhian Rivera, 24, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder Tuesday after the body of Tibbetts, a 20-year-old University of Iowa student, was discovered in a cornfield about 12 miles southeast of Brooklyn, where she was last seen running. Police said Rivera was in the country illegally and an immigration detainer was placed on him after his arrest.

Rivera's employer, Yarrabee Farms, confirmed Tuesday that Rivera worked at the farm for four years and said Rivera passed the federal E-Verify check, which is intended to maintain a database of I-9 forms and tax records of employees across the country.

A law enforcement official told the Washington Post that Rivera used a stolen ID to thwart the E-Verify check conducted by Yarrabee Farms – which experts told Fox News is one way to show that the system is not foolproof.

AHA! A stolen ID. No system in the world, that I'm aware of at least, can withstand something like that.

"E-Verify has prevented a lot of illegal aliens from getting jobs. It’s the best system out there,” former ICE acting director Thomas Homan told "Fox & Friends” on Wednesday, though he added there are ways to beat the system in "rare circumstances.”

"I would be interested to know is: Did they really run this person in E-Verify? And what failed?” he said.

Immigration officials have not confirmed to Fox News if Rivera’s identity was entered into the E-Verify database. Authorities have said he arrived to the U.S. illegally from Mexico at some point between 4 and 7 years ago.

4 and 7 years ago. Sigh! Part of Saint Barack's diversity initiative?

I wonder just when the law-abiding citizens of this great country of ours will have finally had enough, and will demand that the administration do something about it? This was one of the main things that Donald Trump based his presidential campaign on, if I remember correctly, and a large number of voters said YES. I realize Mr. Trump can't do the job alone, but those of us who have Republican Representatives and Senators need to let them know our wishes (it's probably a waste of time to bother the donkeys unless you live in a "red state" and they are up for election this year).

1 Great post Dana!

I wrote about illegal alien identity theft a short time ago. https://www.americanthinker.com/articles/2018/02/illegal_aliens_identity_theft_and_claire_mccaskill_comments.html

2 Good article, Tim. Yes, identity theft is big business. I almost got taken in an attempt. Got an email the other day that purported to be from Apple, telling me that my Apple ID was being shut down unless I re-validated it, because someone had used it to log on to a device in (of all places) the Congo. Sure! Hey, I spend lots of my free time there.

It looked like a legitimate Apple page, but those are easy enough to counterfeit. I went down through the page and of course, they wanted my SSN. I closed the page quickly -- and verified that my Apple ID was running just fine. Maybe I should have tried giving them a fake SSN. Too bad I don't have St. Barack of Obama's Connecticut SSN. . .

3 Well, you may not live in the Congo, but it sounds like you aren't too far from Somalia!

They can be really good, that is for certain.

4 Years ago, a (supposed) financial hot-shot who was for a short time involved with the financial services company my wife was working for got TOTALLY taken in by that Nigerian scam. I don't know how much he lost, but I think it was quite a bit. And based on his later dealings with our company, I HOPE he lost a lot. I won't say any more. . . except that not all that long ago the Feds were after him.

5 Goes to show there is a sucker born every minute! Even hotshot guys like that can be fooled.

Being it's Sunday one's mind wanders, and I have to wonder about the Book of Revelation's warning about the implantation of a "mark" that nobody could buy or sell without.  With e-commerce becoming the norm, how long before that becomes a necessity?  People use phones for everything these days, so why not just get rid of the clunky things and just implant it all in your hand?  With a cashless economy and a guarantee of your identity you could end things like the Nigerian scam forever. From a practical perspective it makes sense, and a lot of dern fools would promote such an idea.

Of course, you would be giving your soul to the government of the Anti-Christ, but those who would support it don't believe anyway.
