Mandalay Bay is suing the shooting victims in order to get the case into Federal court.
From the article: "MGM Resorts International went to federal courts in Nevada and California and took on more than 1,000 shooting victims, saying claims against the hotel giant "must be dismissed.â€
"Plaintiffs have no liability of any kind to defendants,†the complaints argue, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
Fox News senior judicial analyst Judge Andrew Napolitano says that news that an agent of the hotel was shot six minutes prior to Stephen Paddock's attack on the Route 91 Harvest festival could lead to enhanced liability for Mandalay Bay.
Las Vegas lawyer Robert Eglet, who is representing several victims, told the paper that the hotel’s unusual action is a pre-emptive strike to get the cases heard in federal court instead of state court. Englet said MGM must believe it has better chances of victory in a federal case.
The MGM lawsuits are a "blatant display of judge shopping†that "quite frankly verges on unethical,†according to Eglet."
End excerpt.
America has turned into a cesspool of greed and finger pointing. The hotel is not to blame for the actions of Paddock, and there should be no question of trying to hold the hotel liable. And of course, the victims certainly didn't do anything wrong. The blame falls entirely on Paddock - and the lawyers who see big bucks from the deep pockets of MGM.
We live in interesting times.
BTW, why have we heard no more on Paddock himself? There appears to be an effective blackout on news about this case. Why?
