Theresa May faces No Confidence vote

Timothy Birdnow

British Prime Minister Theresa May (she may Brexit, she may not) is in danger of being removed from her PM position for her weak Brexit deal, which keeps Britain tied to the European Union apronstrings. A string of no confidence letters from MP's mah trigger a vote of no confidence, forcing May out.

From the U.K. Express article: "The Conservative Party is reportedly 11 letters short of the 48 needed to trigger a vote of no confidence in the Prime Minister Theresa May. The chairman of the 1922 Committee is said to have received 37 letters out of the 48. Brexiteers are fighting Mrs May over her Brexit draft plan on exiting the EU which led to two cabinet resignations."

End excerpt.

Tories who support a clean Brexit are furious with May, who has been luke-warm to leaving the European leviathan and has worked out a deal whereby the E.U. will still impose economic regulations on Britain.

Here are a few of the more pertinent complaints:

Former Cabinet minister John Whittingdale has submitted a letter to the 1922 Committee calling for a no confidence vote.

"I believe that the agreement that is being proposed does not deliver Brexit in the way that I and many others want to see," he told the Press Association.

"It leaves us locked in indefinitely into the customs union. I also don't think it can get through the House of Commons."

[...]

James Duddridge announced he had submitted his letter just minutes before May took to the stage for her speech at the Conservative annual conference in October.

"I don't know any Conservative MPs that expect Theresa May to be leading us in the next general election ... Given that's the case, let's get on, let's make the change now and let's get someone that believes in Brexit delivering Brexit," he told Sky News at the time.

[...]

Andrew Bridgen submitted his letter in July.

"All we have asked from the Prime Minister, is that she sticks to what she has promised on repeated occasions when she declared that 'Brexit means Brexit' and pledged to take back control of our money, borders and laws. But it now appears those promises are all a pretence and a charade intended to dupe the electorate," he said in his letter, according to media reports.

[...]

Martin Vickers submitted his letter in July.

"It was clear at that time further concessions were inevitable & now we have a much worse agreement that fails to deliver what my constituents voted for in the referendum when they delivered a considered verdict that we should leave," he told a local newspaper reporter.

End excerpts.

The danger to Britain is that the Conservative Party will lose to Labor and Brexit will wind up dead. But what else can the Tories do? The public wants out of the E.U., and May's poll numbers have been dropping precipitously as she has created and promoted a "soft" Brexit. As we are seeing here in America, the Will of the People seems to take a back seat to the will of the powerful, the rule of the Establishment.

May deserves to get the sack.
