In this whole monstrous assault on judge Kavanaugh by the media and the Democrats, there are rays of sunlight poking through.
Scott Rasmussen has several polls that should give us some hope.
First, 38% of likely voters believe Kavanaugh didn't do it - a horribly low number, to be sure, but higher than those who believe Mrs. Blasey Ford, at 33%. A whopping 29% are undecided.
Bear in mind the key to Borking somebody is to make Senators afraid to support him or her, and that can only come with low polling numbers. Now, this is bad news in many ways, but it is good news because, despite an absolute media blitz, the public has not been swayed overmuch.
Second half of voters rightly understand the media is trying to defeat Kavanaugh. From the article:
"A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that 47% of Likely U.S. Voters think when most reporters write or talk about Kavanaugh, they are trying to defeat his confirmation. Just eight percent (8%) think most reporters are trying to help Kavanaugh win the Senate confirmation, while 37% think most reporters are simply interested in reporting the news in an unbiased manner."
End excerpt.
So how do you square that with the lower numbers of people believing Kavanaugh in the whole sordid Blasey Ford accusation? More than likely a lot of the "undecideds" didn't want to tell a pollster they are dismissing allegations stemming to 19882 by a teenager who was likely pretty drunk at the time - if it happened at all - until she has testified. People want to be thought reasonable by others, open minded. But it means a lot of the undecided are really dubious about this claim.
Finally a full 56% of those surveyed believe the media is engaged in witch hunts of powerful people in the #Meetoo mania.
Is the sexual conflagration starting to burn out? Maybe so. Will it be enough to save Brett Kavanaugh? I really don't know. But there is clearly reason for optimism.
