Swalwell on the Hot Seat

Timothy Birdnow

After attacking Donald Trump for making payments to a woman who accused him of sexual misconduct our old friend Eric Swallwell is now embroiled in a similar case of his own.

After Persecuting Trump for $130K Hush Money Case, Eric Swalwell Suddenly Has $360K FEC Storm Brewing

Yes, the California Democrat has an unexplained payment of $360 thousand to a staffer, and it appears very much to be a "hush money" payment in exchange for silence over something.

FTA:

The payments, recorded by the Swalwell for Congress campaign and Swalwell’s Remedy PAC, were made to Darly Meyer, a Haitian-American, for amounts ranging from a trifling $53 to more than $12,000, Fox reported.

"The FEC filings list several different reasons for the payments, ranging from travel expenses, car service to security services to salary. There are also several payments to Meyer for things like ‘personal travel expense reimbursement,’ ‘event flowers reimbursement’ and postage,” Fox reported.

There could well be innocent explanations for all of those expenses. Political campaigns, after all, include a variety of events.
Advertisement - story continues below

And according to Fox, Meyer is not just a staffer on Swalwell’s campaign; he’s the owner of a North Hollywood, California, limousine company called CYD Global Car Service LLC.

Political campaigns obviously involve a lot of travel, and security arrangements are a part of modern public life. (The Charlie Kirk assassination alone proves that).

But according to Fox, one snag for Swalwell comes from the filings that note Meyer was paid for "security.” Fox noted that Meyer does not appear to have a security license, according to California’s Bureau of Security and Investigative Services.

Meyer is also an administrator of a Facebook page called Calihaitians, made up of Haitian expatriates living in California, Arizona, Hawaii, Nevada, Oregon, and Washington

This "staffer" sounds like a political fixer/hatchet man, does he not?

Leftists always accuse their enemies of that which they themselves are doing. Swallowell, like all good leftists, probably thought the media would cover this up and he would be safe. In fact he probably took the lead on attacking Trump precisely for that reason; it made him a hero to the Left and they would help protect him from ethics charges.

The Bible says that everything hidden will be uncovered. Sometimes it happens sooner than judgement day too.

Dick Chaney RIP

Timothy Birdnow

Dick Chaney aka Darth Vader has passed away. He was 84 years old.

They former Wyoming Congressman died of pneumonia and heart disease.

Chaney, the ultimate insider and former Vice President to George W. Bush, had a long career spanning decades. He was a long-servinc Congressman from Wyoming, Chief of Staff in the White House, Secretary of Defense, and Veep.

Chaney was always soft-spoken even while being a razor-sharp and aggressive speaker and debater.

I had little use for him though because he represented the Establishment and he treated anyone from outside of the "circle of trust" horribly. He certainly treated Donald Trump shabbily and undoubtedly worked behind the scenes to wreck the Trump Presidency.

Oh, and I wouldn't want to be around when he was duck hunting; he shot a guy once while engaged in that sport.

At any rate every death dims a light in this tired old world, and even though Chaney did a lot of bad stuff he did a lot of good too. I wish him peace in the hereafter and wish his family the best.

Eternal rest grant unto him o Lord and let the perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. Amen.

Vote Early, Vote Often

Timothy Birdnow

Highest early voting taly in history in the New York City race.

What does that tell us class? It tells me the raasticals, er, radicals are flooding the zone with early votes so they have a commanding lead and won't need to manufacture so many fake ballots on election night.

I sincerely doubt these are people opposed to Mandami who are doing the early voting.Don't expect a surrge for Curtis Sliwa.

If I were Jewish and living in New York I'd get out of there as soon as this guy is elected.

I wish Eric Adams had been the guy everyone coalsced behind and not Andrew Cuomo. I suspect Adams could have beaten Momdani if that had been the case. I doubt Cuomo can win.

He Ain't a Fascist if You Can Call Him One

Timothy Birdnow

This guy gets it.

He said much of what I've been saying for a while now. And he gets it about this shutdown being more than just playing to the lunatic left for political survival of Schumer and company; if the GOP loses this the Democrats own them and Chuck and Hakeem and the rest know it. And of course the longer the shutdown eats into the wallets of their bought-and-paid-for constituents the angrier they will be at the GOP and more motivated to turn out in the next election.

As th author points out the higher the Democrats raise the temperature the MORE likely is a "fascist" dictatorship; the public will turn to authoritarians who support basic civil order and decency over the marxist revolutionaries. And of course Trump isn't even remotely a fascist or they couldn't say he was one in the first place. You can't call someone a fascist and turn out in the streets and call for violent revolution in a fascist regime.

This is a good essay; do read it all.

Aid is not Charity

Timothy Birdnow

I watched the high mass on EWTN yesterday, broadcast from the National Shrine. I had to; they didn't have mass in the chapel at the hospital and I didn't want to miss now, more than ever. So I put on the television and watched the mass.

it was very llong and while beautiful the homily enraged me. The priest was essentially attacking Trump (while not mentioning him by name) over the shutdown and how terrible it was to not give out SNAP benefits. He complained "I don't know why we have 40 million people on SNAP to begin with but that's another matter" and spoke about how as Christians we had a duty to feed the hungry and so we had a duty to make government pay these people.

I wanted to shake the Bishop; we have 40 million people on SNAP precisely because IT'S FREE and everyone knows it. Why not take a freebie? I guarantee you many on the program hide assets or income to get it too.

I used to date a woman (before meeting my wife, of course) who worked for the Missouri welfare bureau and she told me all the tricks the clients used to get on the dole. One woman was denied because she was covered with expensive jewelry, about ten grand worth, according to my old girlfriend. She was denied and so left for two days, came back without the bling and said "that was my boyfriends and we broke up and he took it back" and by the rules they had to follow they had to give it her the relief.

When I worked in real estate I often encountered this too; Section 8 people with brand new SUV's, new computers, cable t.v. etc. living better than I could.

Groups like the Urban League run programs to teach people how to game the system.

So the fact remains there are forty million on the program because it's there, not because they need it. And by the very fact those not in need take the money we have the truly needy unable to access it. They get pushed out by the goats, by the many snouts in the trough.

The fact is we have plenty of private charity and those do far better at serving the poor than do government programs. Oh, and people give to charity voluntarily whereas government steals money from taxpayers to fund the lifestyles of those who may not be in need at all.

I once wrote an essay at American Thinker about this fact. As I pointed out Jesus did not tell Caesar to give to the poor, he told YOU to do so. God as I pointed out, was the creator of poverty as a curse on Mankind for disobedience, and God can end poverty any time He likes. Povery serves a number of purposes in the Divine plan, and one of those is to give His People the opportunity to be charitable and to render aid and assistance to those less fortunate. This is half of the equation. The Bishop celebrating mass seems completely oblivious to any of this.To him it was just a straight line "they don't have and so society must give" with no considerations to any practicality or human nature. The road to Hell is paved with good intentions; this guy was nothing but good intentions, and in fact was judgmental towards those who considered the practicality.

These are the kinds of people who now run the Church; ivory tower academicians or simple-minded do-gooders who wind up making most situations they involve themselves in worse. The fact is Jesus said to be wise and "cunning as serpents" in our practice of faith, not just soft hearted and softer-headed.

Mos of the Catholic heirarchy is just that; soft of heart and softer of head and what they promote has been horribly destructive to those whom they are intending to help.

It is not love to give people whatever they want. We do that all the time with children, deny them things they want for their ultimate benefit. If we were to give children teh food they want they would eat nothing but ice cream and soda and candy.

There was a wonderful episode of the Andy Griffith show where a hobo who made friends with Opie asked Andy "why not let him choose for himself" and Andy gave a very wise answer "because you can't do that. Because they will grab the first shiny thing that comes along and when they realize there's a hook in it it's too late." In the case of the American poor (who ae wildly wealthy by international standards, I might add) that hook was set purposely by the Democratic Party to make these people dependent on them and on government and thus voting for Democrats forever. Of course the GOP isn't innocent on this either and never tried to rein in the massive spending on welfare programs and other assistance. They just promised to spend the money more wisely. But both offered poisoned fruit to the poor, and to the middle class as well. Now we are tasting the bitterness of that.

I know it's tough to lose a stream of income, especially all at once as is the case with this government shutdown, but unfortunately growth always involves pain. And there is nothing loving about keeping people stuck in permanent adolescence, forever forced to take what you give them and pretend to like it. Government "charity" always provides just a meager life, one outside of your control. Serfs and slaves had the same conditions imposed on them. Granted the poor can choose to work and get off the dole and a slave or serf could not, but how does one get off in the first place? The allure of free money is just too great.

If the Church truly wants to love people and obey the precepts of Jesus they would reject govenment aid and do the job themselves. The Catholic Church is fabulously wealthy; spend more of that money on helping the poor instead of helping promote caravans of illegals to invade America, or for building big Cathedrals, or for so many other things they do with the money that could be used to feed people. If they had to actually do it themselves they would be much wiser stewards of the wealth they are proposing to redistribute.

Aid is not charity. The Catholic Bishops need to grow up and understand that simple fact.

Gates Grows Up (Maybe)

Timothy Birdnow

Oh my! The Gang Green just lost Bill Gates!

I guess separating from Melinda brought back some common sense to Mr. Gates.

Gates wrote this ahead of COP 30, the planning conference where Agenda 21 and 30 had been hatched at previous incarnations of the climate change auto-da-fe. While he clearly hasn't become one of us "deniers" he's clearly starting to wake up to the anti-humanism of the radical green agenda and fear of carbon emissions.

He joins Bjorn Lombarg, the environmentalist scientists and one of the founders of Greenpeace who has been cast out by the enviro movement for daring to say "well, there might be some warming but we need to look to help humans first".

He joins the 30,000 scientists who signed the Oregon Petition. He joins such big names as Dr. Roy Spencer, John Christy, William Happer, the late S. Fred Singer and Frederick Seitz, Roger Pielke Sr. and Jr., Judith Curry, etc. He is in an august body despite the media claims no credible scientists disagree with the radical agenda of the IPCC and the many COP capers.

After warning that climate change charity is money largely being ill-spent he made the following points:

# Climate change is a serious problem, but it will not be the end of civilization.”
# "Temperature is not the best way to measure our progress on climate.”
# "Health and prosperity are the best defense against climate change.”

He's especially right about that last (the Third World pollutes far more than do developed nations) and while the U.s. may put out the lion's share of co2, it's generally much cleaner co2 than that put out by the likes of China or India, which mix in unhealthy doses of sulphur and other actual pollutants.

When people are poor they don't worry about cleanliness as much. Making people rich and well-fed makes them cleaner.

Gates urges philanthropists to "to make a strategic pivot: prioritize the things that have the greatest impact on human welfare.”. That is exactly what they should have done all along.

In point of fact we actually ran an accidental experiment a few years ago that had some eye-opening results. During the pandemic economic activity dropped considerably and so did carbon emissions and yet atmospheric carbon dioxide continued to rise and we have seen no minor pause in that even now, despite the fact htat we are five years past the end of the pandemic. Poverty and starvation rose during the pandemic and yet with a reduction in economic activity we saw no reduction in the rate of growth of atmospheric co2.

This suggests that all the economic-busting regulations and restrictions sought by the Gang Green over the years probably has little to no impact on atmospheric co2, nor will they. But they have penty of impact on the poor.

If we care about the poor at all we will turn away from this green madness. Bill Gates may have learned that in his dotage but he seems to have finally figured it out. Now if he will stop his insane campaign to depopulate the planet...

At any rate where Mr. Gates leads others will surely follow. Defund the Gang Green and you defang them. This is a hopeful sign.

Where I've been

Dear readers and friends,

I am sorry for the hiatus; it is going to be very spotty for a while into the forseeable future I fear.

As Dana Mathewson informed everyone my wife has suffered a return of her cancer and has only been given a weeks to months to live.

I lived at tha hospital all week, eating cafeteria food and sleeping in a not-so-easy chair which gave me a compression sore on my posterior. But I have no grounds to complain; I would live in a blast furnace if it meant being with her now.

She is a warm, wonderful person, sweet and kind and, frankly, saintly. I know people always say that but in her case it's true. Even now she's worried about me more than about herself. I have no doubt she's going straight to Heaven when the end comes - especially after the suffering she's endured over the last decade or so. Her health has been bad for years, with numerous issues which made her disabled and pretty much a shut-in.

But my heart is totally broken. We were married 32 years this October and had been together several years before that. She is my whole life. How do I go on without her? I know I will somehow but right now I can't imagine it; like losing half of myself.

She told me about a dream she had the other day that I thought I should share with everyone. In her dream she was at my mother's house (my mother passed about seven years ago) and wanted to come inside. My mother was at the door and told her she couldn't come in "you don't have your certificate yet". Cathy asked what that meant and Mom replied "you haven't learned enough yet".Inside Cathy saw my brother's deceased mother and father in law and asked why THEY got to come in "because they have their certificates". Cathy asked if she couldn't just ask me and have me tell her what she needed to know and my Mom shook her head "you have to learn it yourself."

What lesson did she need? I don't know, but I suspect it means she needs a little more time on this Earth. Maybe she needs the lesson most of us need before we go, which is to let go and let others carry your burdens. It's very hard; I often wonder if ghosts aren't people who never learnecd THAT particular lesson and so never left this Earth. Who knows? Assuming there are such things as ghosts, of course.

At any rate that was a beautiful and heart breaking story but I thought it worth sharing as it might help others who are going through something similary. And this comports with near death experiences where there is a border one must cross, and often a loved one greets them at the border and tells them it's not yet time. I can understand why it was my Mom too and not her own parents; it's not quite time for her to see them yet and she wouldn't want to leave if she had. And I'm sure my Mom was also looking out for me in this instance and this dream was as much for my benefit as Cathy's.

Anyway that's where we are at. I'm going to try to maintain this blog but it won't be a daily anymore in all probability; time is precious now.

Thank you all for your care and support.

Unfortunate News From Timothy

Dana Mathewson (North Central States editor)

Timothy has just been hit with the terrible news that his beloved wife Cathy's cancer has returned, and that it is inoperable. And she will not be able to receive radiation treatments.

So we will just have to see what her oncologist has to offer from here on in.

As far as blog postings, I will try to see what I can provide. I will certainly be open to suggestions from our many commenters, especially Bill H and Mike (please, no commercial offerings).

And prayers are greatly appreciated, for Cathy and for Timothy!

"Go back to Costco and hock your fictional autobiography.”

Maybe Hillary forgot about stealing plates and dinnerwear from the White House? Maybe she forgot about her husband selling stays in the Lincoln Bedroom for cash? If it is OUR house why did she seek to pofit from the Lincoln Bedroom?

Maybe she forgot hat when her people left they trashed the place, and even cut all the W's out of the keyboards (making it impossible to write their successor's name.)

If it isn't the President's house then why did you and your husband treat it like a bordello? Why did they trash the place when leaving?

Everything the MSM Says is Bullshit

Timothy Birdnow

AMDG

I was listening to Meet the Press this morning and Kristin Welcher, er, Welker was in rare form. I am mindful of the quote from the movie My Cousin Vinny. Vinny (Joe Pesce) gets his opening statement in the arraignment of his cousin. He was exhausted, having gotten no sleep and his entire opening statement was "Everything tha guy said was bullshit. Thank you." (The judge, played by the great Fred Gwyn aka Herman Munster, ordered the entire opening statemtn stricken from the record with the exception of "thank you".)

Everything Welker and her liberal buddies said was bullshit.

For instance, she and her buddies claimed inflation is rising when in fact it

What Welker and company are confusing is inflation and deflation. They are pushing the idea we should have deflation, which is a completely different critter altogether. Deflation is actually more economically destructive than inflation as inflation makes borrowing cheaper and promotes economic growth. Deflation means money is worth more and it KILLS lending because who wants to lend money and have it payed back at a lower rate than you can get with direct investment? Better to wait and lend money when it is stable. In fact one of the great issues of the late 19th century was free silver. That was a demand by the public to coin silver; go on a bimetallic standard. The Populist Party championed free silver because the farmers and small businessmen needed credit and they wanted inflation to loosen up the lending market. William Jennings Bryan made his famous "cross of gold" speech where he said "Mankind shall not be crucified on a cross of gold".

At any rate that Trump has not actually triggered deflation (how could he when the budget is still largely the Biden budget?) they lie and say inflation is rising. It's not and even liberal NPR admits the fact.

This was as of August, and we have yet to get a full quarter in since.

From the article:

"Consumer prices in August were up 2.5% from a year ago, according to a report from the Labor Department Wednesday. That's the smallest annual increase since February 2021.

Here are four things to know about the cost of living report.

Housing costs are still climbing, but gasoline is getting cheaper

Housing costs have been the biggest driver of inflation in the last year, rising 5.2%. Gasoline prices, on the other hand, have plunged more than 10%..

ABC News - no friend of the President - admitted inflation cooled in October.

The article says:

Consumer prices rose 3.2% in October compared to a year ago, cooling significantly from the previous month and exceeding economist expectations. The data indicates progress in the Federal Reserve's fight to reduce inflation.

The results mark a half-percentage-point decline from the annual inflation increase shown in September, according to data released Tuesday by the government's Bureau of Labor Statistics.

And why are mortgage rates  climbing? Because under Joe Biden interest rates soared, and the Federal Reserve has been unwilling to cut rates. This means if you sell your home and try to upgrade your mortgage payment will skyrocket and so nobody is moving; everyone is waiting for the Fed to cut rates. So what is on the market has to be overpriced. Rates will fall  as soon as Jerome Powell's term ends (Powell is doing what the head of the Second Bank of the United States tried to do to Andrew Jackson.)

And someone on the panel on Meet the Pest actually said all economic growth was caused by the rise of AI, which is nonsense and the NPR article makes that quite plain.

Furthermore, this is happening despite the apocalyptic claims BY THE SAME MEET THE PRESS and other media outlets that Trump's tariffs would lead to massive inflation. It hasn't.

Everyone also went on a tantrum about the ballroom Mr. Trump is building at the White House. No mention of the fact private funds are financing this. Nor that Presidents have changed the White House all the time. The swimming pool is now the press room. Obama built a basketball court. And FDR actually built the East Wing in the first place during the Depression. It's not all that historic; it mostly houses the First Lady's office.

Trump saw a real need; the White House hosts many formal events and a better ballroom was needed. He did it without spending a dime of taxpayer money. Welker knows that. But she lies, as do the rest of them, about the truth of this.

There were other issues that were discussed that were full of lies. They complained about the price of eggs and of coffee. Eggs skyrocketed because Biden slaughtered all the laying hens in fear of Avian Flu. How do you get pices down without hens? That takes time. And most coffee comes from Brazil. Brazil just lost most of her coffee crop. How is that Trump's fault? They would never blame Biden or Obama for such things. And don't think they don't know it. They do; they are just liars.

So, whenever you hear anything from the mainstream media alwyays think of Joe Pesci "everything they say is bullshit. Thank you."

Brandon Says Illegal Alien is a term like Slave

Timothy Birdnow

AMDG

Brandon Johnson loses it when confronted with the term "illegal alien".

From the Gateway Pundit:

Far-left Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson erupted in response to a reporter’s use of the term "illegal alien,” equating it to the historical dehumanization of Black Americans during slavery.

The meltdown came when a reporter pressed Johnson on the enormous taxpayer burden of providing shelter, healthcare, and other services to tens of thousands of migrants who have flooded the city since 2022, resources that have strained Chicago’s budget while crime ravages neighborhoods and essential services for legal residents are slashed.

"We don’t have illegal aliens. I don’t know if that’s from some sort of sci-fi message that you wish to add,” Johnson erupted, dismissing the term as fictional.

When the reported calmly noted that "illegal alien” is, in fact, the precise legal terminology enshrined in federal law, Johnson doubled down with a jaw-dropping comparison.

"Well, listen, the legal term for my people were slaves. You want me to use that term, too? Look, let’s just get the language right. We’re talking about undocumented individuals that are human beings. The last thing that I’m going to do is accept the type of racist, nasty language to describe human beings,” he said

Uh, Brandon, the LEGAL term for black people is not slaves. It doesn't take Noah Webster to deduce that fact. And nobody ever calls them that. At most one can say they are the descendants of former slaves - as are most people if you look back in history far enough.

But these people coming into the country are here illegally and they are aliens, so it is an entirely proper description of their status. Just because you don't like it doesn't give you the right to redefine language.

And how is it "racist"? He is assuming all illegal aliens are Hispanic or African. They are not. The term fits for an Irish or English person who violates immigration law. But no, it's always about "racism" with leftists because they can't make a rational argument otherwise and they need to control the language and the narrative.

Anniversay of Hastings

Timothy Birdnow

AMDG

Better late than never! This goes back to the old Birdblog days, 20 years ago:

The Anniversary of the Battle of Hastings 1066

Throughout history certain days and events have been momentous, and the future often depends on the outcome of single occurrences. The battle of Marathon, Caesar`s crossing the Rubicon, Pope Leo facing down the ``Scourge of God``Attila, Charles Martel`s victory over the invading Saracens at Poitiers (or Tours), Washington`s victory at Yorktown, etc. are all examples of events which changed history. Oftentimes nobody understands the significance of the event. Today marks the anniversary of one such turning point, one which few know much about; it was on this day, October 14, in the Year of Our Lord 1066 that William, Duke of Normandy, destroyed the English army at the battle of Hastings and set the English speaking peoples on the path which would lead them to rule the world.

Our story begins in Roman times with the conquest of Britain by Caesar. The Britons were a Celtic people who lived on the southern half of the Island. Because of their proximity to Gaul they had cultural and trade contacts with the Continent, and so were a bit more cosmopolitan than their Highlander cousins. Eventually Rome cast covetous eyes on Britain, and Caesar launched the first of several invasions of the island. The Britons put up a half-hearted resistance, and took easily to life as a Roman province. (Rome was never able to subdue the Scots and Pics, nor the Irish. In fact, the Emperor Hadrian built a giant wall to keep the Scots from raiding Roman territory, much like the Chinese had done to keep the nomadic tribes out of the Middle Kingdom.) Times were good, and Britain became an amalgamation of Celtic and Roman culture.

Joy Reid a Brain She Need

Timothy Birdnow

AMDG

We all know Joy Reid is a low watt bulb but here she takes the cake.

Yes, she actually did say that it's a disgrace Trump is "using taxpayer dollars to build a ballroom while people are missing their financial aid checks".

If she had bothered to even do the most casual of research she would know that no taxpayer money is involved; this is being done with private donations.

FTA:

"We are in the middle of a government shutdown,” Reid said.

"We supposedly do not have any money that’s available to extend the subsidies to your healthcare. We don’t have that money, but somehow we have all kinds of extra coins available to get two private planes for Kristi Noem and her staff to use to try to purchase buildings in Chicago for ICE to use because nobody will let them use the bathroom or eat in their establishments … We had the money to do this to your White House. But no money for you. No money for food stamps, people are gonna run out of food stamps, those are not gonna be renewed. It’s gonna create a crisis of hunger across this country.

How stupid is this woman? It's one thing to privately grumble stuff like this but to shout it to the world?

Actually, she's hoping to fool a few low-information types by openly declaring this, knowing there are some who won't bother to find out the truth. It's how the media has long operated.

Abrego Garcia Living Dangerously

Timothy Birdnow

This is hilarious!

Trump Admin Plans to Deport 'Maryland Man' Abrego Garcia to Liberia Within Days

There was a movie back in the nineties starring Michael Keaton called "Johnny Dangerously". It was a spoof about mobsters in the Zucker fashion (like Airplane or The Naked Gun). There was one mobster who was the enemy in the movie and he had a thick accent that was indeterminate and nobody could understand him. They did the spinning newspaper thing to update the audience and one headline was "Maroni deported to Sweden: says he's not even from there". That's what this makes me think of.
