Kamala Harris is half Asian, the rest a mix of Jamaican black and white. Long straight hair, more Asian than anything else, so why doesn't she identify as Asian?
The answer of course is that there are far more perks if you say you are black than if you say you are Asian. In particular it's far easier to get into college.
Plus for a woman like Kamala, who is the privileged daughter of a doctor and a Stanford professor, and who grew up in a mostly white world ... claiming "I'M REALLY VERY BLACK, HONEST" gives her all kinds of street cred.
Which of course is inter alia why her reputation among black people is not all that great ... they're not impressed with that kind of "Look how black I am!" virtue signaling by an elite Asian woman who can easily pass ...

But then why did Joe pick her? And he didn't need her to gain California. He needed a stronger foothold in the black community, which he would have gotten with Susan Rice. Granted, he needs a food taster in either case.

Maybe. But then, I don't see what other reason could have motivated whoever is running Biden to make that pick.
They would have done better with so many other candidates.
