Beat a Cop; It Could Be a Freebie in Va.

Timothy Birdnow

Democrats in the newly minted People's Republic of Virginia are considering reducing assaulting a police officer from a felony to a misdemeanor.

This would reduce sentencing from a minimum of 6 months in jail to possibly no jail time at all.

Maybe we can decriminalize assassinations next? I mean, Democrats would love to see President Trump take a bullet anyway, so why not make it legal in Virginia?

My God, these people have lost their minds.

Now, if they were not hypocrites they would include legislators in this law. I know quite a few people who would love to throw bricks at some of these creepy lawmakers...

1 I've been making a point to give a big friendly wave to the cops who drive through my neighborhood. They maintain a presence here, and I'm sure that's one reason we have zero problems. There are reputed to be drug deals going on in the apartment complex across the street from our home, or so my landlady has maintained for a number of years. But the after-dark noise that's gone on for a weeks has been nothing but fireworks (it's legal for citizens to buy them), for all that they sound much like gunshots.

The only gunshots we've ever heard in this neighborhood since we've been here were about ten years ago, when a temporarily-unhinged guy shot his ex to death in front of the next apartment complex up the street. My wife was out walking the dog and was totally amazed at the sound. Pretty soon the cops, firetrucks and TV camera crews were on the scene and stayed most of the day.

2 Glad to hear your neighborhood is generally peaceful. Mine too. But any neighborhood can turn very quickly; all you need is one bad apple and the good people leave, and, like a classic military crust defense, the line collapses.

3 I should have included that the guy who offed his ex was an outsider to the neighborhood. His ex had moved into the complex. Or maybe they had both lived there and he had to leave. Apparently the guy was trying to bring about a reconciliation, or maybe just talk to her, and she wasn't having any of it.

Of course, a number of people blamed the gun. But guns don't make a relationship go sour, and if a guy determines he's going to pressure his ex, any weapon he can find will do just as handily. I'm betting there was a punitive divorce decree, like too-heavy alimony or child support, maybe no visitation, something like that, and the guy was just driven over the cliff. Hey, he might even have been an abuser. But there's always a reason; and she HAD gone out to talk to him -- he shot her outside in the parking lot.

4 Yeah; a knife would have worked as well. Of course, the mayor of London has banned knives, too, but how do you ban a sharp edge?  And many men could kill women with  their bare hands.

Guns are just a tool, like any other. It's the user that determines whether it is a tool or a weapon.
