Greenland Gain and Loss

This from Frank Lasee:

Yep. Yet the spinners will spin. Ice bergs happen when glaciers grow over the water.

When glaciers melt, they retreat from the edges and ice bergs don’t happen. Ice bergs are floating ocean fertilizers.

Scott Rose

Record mass loss on Greenland yesterday! But wait... where did the loss occur? It’s all along the coast. So what does it mean when you have 6 record gain events on the interior of Greenland and 1 record loss events at the coast? It means that the system is saturated. The snow and ice are getting pushed down the hill into the ocean.

Tim adds:

I always made that case about the West Antarctic Ice Sheet as well. East Antarctica was experiencing record growth and it was natural it would push WAIS out into the Ocean. But it was supposedly global warming, despite the fact Antarctica is below zero almost the entire year.

1 Article a year or so ago about an ice shelf in Antarctica breaking free. Huge one, "the size of Delaware," which is a very small state. Much hyperventilating about its contribution to sea level rise. They were, apparently, not aware that it was floating in the sea before it broke off.

2 I've seen those Bill. They are playing on fears or are just that ignorant, but of course sea ice adds nothing to sea level. Just fill a glass with ice and water to the brim and see what happens - duh! But I don't think the authors of such pieces are honest at all.

Delaware sized chunks of ice were never uncommon down in Antarctica.
