Republicans to Join Democrats in Backdoor Amnesty

Republicans are joining Democrats in a scheme to backdoor amnesty for illegal aliens.

According to Conservative HQ:

Editor’s Note: Rep. Zoe Lofgren was one of the House Democrats’ impeachment "managers” in the recent Senate trial which acquitted President Trump of both articles of impeachment.

The purpose of the bill, ostensibly, is to ensure a stable and legal agriculture workforce. Naturally, the first step would be to reform the H-2A guest worker program that allows employers to import an unlimited number of workers each year for temporary, seasonal agricultural work. The current H-2A program, while used successfully by many growers to obtain agricultural workers each year, is bureaucratic and cumbersome. But, no, unfortunately, that is not the primary focus of H.R. 4916. Rather than simply streamlining the H-2A program, Title I of the bill is all about amnesty.

Congress knows that giving amnesty to illegal agricultural workers will fail to produce a stable, legal workforce because they’ve tried it before.

So how are they going to do it?

Under H.R. 4916, if an alien worked unlawfully in agriculture for at least 10 years prior to the date of enactment, that alien will be granted Certified Agricultural Worker (CAW) status for 5½years with an employment authorization document that allows him or her to work for any employer in the United States, in agriculture or not. After four years in CAW status, the alien can apply for a green card and the path to citizenship, if the alien worked in agriculture for at least 575 hours or 100 workdays in each of those four years. So these longtime illegal workers are "only” indentured for four years.

However, if an alien worked unlawfully in agriculture for fewer than ten years prior to enactment, that alien also will be granted CAW status but will be required to work in agriculture for the next eight years. Aliens in this category cannot apply for a green card and the path to citizenship until they have had CAW status for eight years and can show that they worked in agriculture for at least 575 hours or 100 workdays in ​each​ of the past eight years. So these aliens who worked unlawfully for less time will be indentured to agriculture for eight years before they can completely abandon farm work. Like the first category, though, they will still have an employment authorization document that is not limited to agriculture.

So they want to reinstate serfdom. Or indentured servitude, if you prefer.

And the use of e-verify is only mandatory for agricultural workers, and does nothing to stem the flow of illegals.

Rapist Gets Probation

Now this is an example of being soft on crime.

A middle aged high school principal has been given probation for statutory rape.

From the BND article;

Elizabeth "Beth” Giesler is the former assistant principalat Ste. Genevieve Middle School in eastern Missouri, The Kansas City Star reported. In 2018, she was charged with sexual contact with a student, statutory sodomy and statutory rape, according to the newspaper.

Giesler was accused of a having three sexual encounterswith a 16-year-old boy, including performing a sex act on him and engaging in sexual intercourse twice in her home in Ste. Genevieve County, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported.

She took an Alford plea on Tuesday, court records show. In an Alford plea, the defendant doesn’t admit guilt but accepts that there’s enough evidence to find guilt if the case goes to trial.

In addition to the two years of probation, Giesler agreed to voluntarily surrender her teacher’s license, records show.

Ste. Genevieve County Prosecuting Attorney Wayne Williams said he considered Giesler’s lack of criminal history and losing her teaching license in accepting the plea, according to the Daily Journal.

"Some people might not understand the bargain that was struck in this case unless they really understand what she had to give up voluntarily to get that bargain,” Williams told the Daily Journal. "That was basically her livelihood, and she had to surrender that.”

Uh, wouldn't serving prison time have the same effect? Giving up her right to teach children doesn't seem like much of a sacrifice on her part at this point.

This is an amazing double standard. If this were a male principal he would be heading for the state pen.

I don't know but I'll bet the prosecutor and/or the judge are Democrats.

No Right to Quarantine Foreigners over Coronavirus

The Center for Disease Control is overreacting, according to some "experts".

From the Belleville News Democrat:

Law professors Lawrence Gostin and James Hodge write that the federal response to COVID-19, as the virus is now known, goes beyond how authorities responded to earlier crisis such as SARS, swine flu and Ebola.

The coronavirus had infectedalmost 47,000 around the world as of Thursday, according to the World Health Organization, and 1,368 had died. Most of the people infected with the virus have been in and around Wuhan, a city in central China’s Hubei province.

Since the outbreak started, public health officials have set up quarantine centers at military bases for U.S. citizens evacuated from Hubei. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention ordered 200 people quarantined for 14 days after they were airlifted from Wuhan in late January.

The CDC has instituted a mandatory two-week quarantine for anyone coming from Hubei province.

Those quarantines, the scholars write, "may be justifiable.”

"Hubei is currently a ‘hot zone’ of contagion where individuals have significant risks of exposure. The quarantine period also is justified by epidemiologic data placing the outer limit of asymptomatic transmission at 14 days,” they said.

But quarantines for anyone arriving from China "appear excessive,” they said.

That is right. I had bitter arguments when the Ebola epidemic was raging about letting people come here from West Africa. I thought it a terrible idea. But now the CDC is cracking down on a flu bug.

I was a lot more worried about Ebola.

The article continues:

"Although meaningful, these due process measures are constitutionally insufficient. The Supreme Court requires ‘clear and convincing’ evidence (not reasonable beliefs) for civil confinements, with the right to appeal to independent tribunals,” the professors said in the journal.

The article also argues that banning entry to non-U.S. nationals who have visited China "are overbroad because there is no individualized risk assessment.” These people could be given health screenings and monitoring instead of being banned from the United States outright.

"World Health Organization officially recommends against widespread travel restrictions under the International Health Regulations, including the US entry ban,” they said.

Horse poop. We can ban non-nationals for any reason we so desire.

This notion that we have to let people come here is a very modern idea, and a very dangerous one. It presupposes national sovereignty doesn't really exist, that we are all "citizens of the world" and have a right to go where we will. It would have been an alien concept as little as fifty years ago.

So, does that mean we SHOULD impose strict quarantines? Depends. But I have far greater trust of this process under the Trump Administration than I did under the Obama junta.

I've been writing about Global Warming Climate Flatulence Climate Change for a long, long time. And I've been writing about atolls just as long, at least since the old Birdblog days. As I pointed out back then, low-lying islands are not disappearing; on the contrary, some actually have grown since the supposed warming of the planet has been supposedly in overdrive. That cannot happen; the sea levels are rising, we were told, and the small islands would disappear.

Stem Cells May Rejuvenate Kidneys

This is great news! My mother in law died from renal failure. She was on dialysis for several years before she died. She would probably have lived quite a bit longer had this technique been in place.

The newly developed technology, so far tested on mice, generated new tissue to replace damaged kidney tissue. The mice’s kidney function improved as a result.

Methanepocalypse Not Now

One of the cornerstones of catastrophic global warming theory is a warming Arctic will lead to a release of methane, which is a powerful greenhouse gas and thus will lead to a runaway greenhouse effect. Carbon dioxide is ultimately negligible in the theory; it is simply the fuse. The explosive is this methane.

Well...

Seems the Arctic isn't cooperating.

Researchers from Stockholm University looked into claims that catastrophically large amounts of the gas were being released into the atmosphere from the Indian Ocean, although the releases had not been spotted by atmospheric monitoring stations.

The scientists used data from an icebreaker in the eastern Arctic Ocean to directly measure the methane sea-to-air flux, the exchange through which the ocean and atmosphere interact.

"By understanding the airflow over the sea surface, and simultaneously measuring methane concentrations, we can determine how much methane is coming out of the ocean,” Stockholm University researcher Brett Thornton told Science Daily.

The researchers saw hotspots of methane emissions from the bubbles coming from the seafloor that were up to 25 times higher than emissions from onshore wetlands.

"The peak emissions are indeed large, but at the same time, they are also extremely limited in area,” Thornton said. "Yes, there is methane leaking from the Arctic Ocean to the atmosphere. But, at least for now, it is not globally important to atmospheric methane and global warming.”

Nobody expected NOT to find some methane leaking; it's going to happen in the Arctic, where much is frozen in the permafrost. Methane is a naturally occurring gas that is the primary component of natural gas. It is a ubiquitous bi-product of chemical and biological processes and it is often seen in swamps where it produces a fetid smell.

In the Arctic is freezes into the ground.

Methane is a much more efficient greenhouse gas than carbon dioxide, trapping much more heat in the atmosphere.

So the fear is that if the polar regions melt a large, sudden release of methane will then lead to an overall atmospheric warming which will lead to more methane release, which will lead to more warming...

But it looks like Nature is not cooperating with the theory.

And why should it?  Overall there has been no planetary warming outside of the natural increase from the ending of the Little Ice Age since the latter part of the last century.

So researchers have found that something stinks, but it's not the swamp gas...

Virginia Dems Storm Out After Black Pastor Condemns Abortion, Gay Marriage: ‘Woe To Anyone Who Harms An Innocent Child’

Rev. Robert M. Grant Jr. of The Father’s Way Church in Warrenton, Virginia, addressed the Democrat-controlled House of Delegates with an opening prayer that condemned abortion and gay marriage, Media Research Center reported. Grant’s prayer caused members to storm out of the chamber and for one member to yell, "Is this a prayer or a sermon?”

The pastor defended his actions by saying the "state house belongs to all the citizens.”

"And all the citizens have a voice,” Grant added. "If it’s my turn to have a voice, and I am a pastor, what do you expect from me? If you don’t want to hear what a pastor has to say, then don’t invite one.”

"I pray that you may understand that all life is precious and worthy of a chance to be born,” Grant said. "God is the giver of life and people have no right or authority to take life. The unborn have rights and those rights need to be protected. They should never be denied the right to exist, the right to develop or the right to have a family.”

Grant told the delegates that God gave them a warning: "Woe to anyone who harms an innocent child.”

"Every one of you sitting here today can guarantee these rights to these little innocent children of Virginia,” he said. "Please do not ignore their little voices. I pray for a heart change today, and may the Lord God have mercy upon this leadership.”

Grant also toldthe delegates that "we should never rewrite what God has declared,” saying that Virginia "always protect the biblical definition of marriage” — that marriage is between a man and a woman.

Democratic Speaker Eileen Filler-Corn banged her gavel to end the prayer, Media Research Center reported, and quickly shifted the meeting to the Pledge of Allegiance.

The prayer was "totally disrespectful to all of us, all of us in this House,” Democratic Del. Luke Torian told the publication. Del. Delores McQuinn also told Media Research Center that it "felt like condemnation.”

The Truth is a painful thing to those who do not want to hear it. Rev. Grant has taken on the roll of Old Testament Prophet here, a voice crying in the wilderness, calling for repentance. Too bad they Democrats in Virginia won't listen until it is too late.

California CEO and Seven Others Charged in Multi-Million Dollar Conduit Campaign Contribution Case

A federal grand jury in the District of Columbia indicted Ahmad "Andy” Khawaja, 48, of Los Angeles, California, on Nov. 7, 2019, along with George Nader, Roy Boulos, Rudy Dekermenjian, Mohammad "Moe” Diab, Rani El-Saadi, Stevan Hill and Thayne Whipple. The 53 count indictment charges Khawaja with two counts of conspiracy, three counts of making conduit contributions, three counts of causing excessive contributions, 13 counts of making false statements, 13 counts of causing false records to be filed, and one count of obstruction of a federal grand jury investigation. Nader is charged with conspiring with Khawaja to make conduit campaign contributions, and related offenses. Boulos, Dekermenjian, Diab, El-Saadi, Hill, and Whipple are charged with conspiring with Khawaja and each other to make conduit campaign contributions and conceal excessive contributions, and related offenses.

According to the indictment, from March 2016 through January 2017, Khawaja conspired with Nader to conceal the source of more than $3.5 million in campaign contributions, directed to political committees associated with a candidate for President of the United States in the 2016 election. By design, these contributions appeared to be in the names of Khawaja, his wife, and his company. In reality, they allegedly were funded by Nader. Khawaja and Nader allegedly made these contributions in an effort to gain influence with high-level political figures, including the candidate. As Khawaja and Nader arranged these payments, Nader allegedly reported to an official from a foreign government about his efforts to gain influence.

The indictment also alleges that, from March 2016 through 2018, Khawaja conspired with Boulos, Dekermenjian, Diab, El-Saadi, Hill, and Whipple to conceal Khawaja’s excessive contributions, which totaled more than $1.8 million, to various political committees. Among other things, these contributions allegedly allowed Khawaja to host a private fundraiser for a presidential candidate in 2016 and a private fundraising dinner for an elected official in 2018.

The indictment further alleges that, from June 2019 through July 2019, Khawaja obstructed a grand jury investigation of this matter in the District of Columbia. Knowing that a witness had been called to testify before the grand jury, Khawaja allegedly provided that witness with false information about Nader and his connection to Khawaja’s company. Boulos, Diab, Hill, and Whipple also are charged with obstructing the grand jury’s investigation by lying to the FBI.

Currently, Nader is in federal custody on other charges.

Now who do you suppose that candidate for President of the United States happened to be? Anybody?

If it was Donald J. Trump this would have been in the impeachment.

Notice too the Middle Eastern names. Sounds to me like some Arabic peoples were trying to meddle with our election. Not a Russian name on the list.

Bob Barr has certainly begun cleaning up a very nasty mess. But he has just begun. And there is a long way to go between indictment and conviction. IF this goes as high as it appears it might then we will hear little about it - even if these characters are convicted.

This is a little more than asking a foreign president to investigate corruption of a U.S. citizen.

This is just the tip of a very large iceberg, I suspect.

Tim McNabb points out that at least one of these people is a Democrat bundler.

A conduit or intermediary is anyone the campaign has not authorized to raise funds who receives and forwards an earmarked contribution to the candidate or candidate's authorized campaign committee.

...so, at least one democrat donor is accused of setting up straw donors and being a conduit from donors who have maxed-out their contributions but still want to buy politicians...

NATO officials are warning that Chinese missiles can hit the continental U.S. and Europe.

According to the American Military News article:

China’s expanding arsenal of intercontinental ballistic missiles can reach the United States and Europe, a North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) official said on Monday.

NATO Deputy Secretary-General Mircea Geoana warned, in an interview with theWashington Examiner,that NATO allies must become more alert to the threat China poses.

"When we start looking into new technologies, when we start looking into arms control, when we start looking about the fact that, let’s say, Chinese missile capabilities can reach U.S. and Europe — at that moment, of course, we have to start becoming far more attentive also to the rise of China,” Geoana said.

Geoana’s statement echoes previous comments he made atthe Hudson Institute on Friday in which he said the fight between the United States and China is"between us, the ones that believe that democracy and free markets and open societies are the solution, and others that do believe that closed societies, authoritarian regimes, dictatorships, are the most efficient formula to govern modern societies.”

"We are witnessing today an epochal fight for the commanding heights of how human societies are organized,” Geoana said.

The former Romanian foreign minister believes that China needs to join the United States and Russia’s arms control agreement.

"There is a difference of quality in terms of how we see Russia and how we see China in the alliance,” Geoana said. "But the fact that we are seeing China both as a challenge and as an opportunity is reflecting, at the same time, the view coming from the U.S. and many other European countries that China is a nation that is changing the global balance of power, which is an understatement.”

A recent report warned that China could beat the U.S. in a potential conflict, thanks to the country’s emphasis on creating artificial intelligence and rapidly expanding its military.

"Chinese firms and research institutes are advancing uses of AI that could undermine U.S. economic leadership and provide an asymmetrical advantage in warfare,” the report said. "Chinese military strategists see AI as a breakout technology that could enable China to rapidly modernize its military, surpassing overall U.S. capabilities and developing tactics that specifically target U.S. vulnerabilities.”

The only reason China could beat us is if we let them. They are not really very creative. But we have let them steal our technology for decades and at the same time have helped train their tech people at our own universities. We've allowed them to corner the market on rare earth elements - the kind needed for high tech equipment. We have ignored their efforts to colonize Africa and other places via their Belt and Roads Project, whereby they lend money to poor countries to develop and then hold them hostage with the interest payments. (And ultimately we are financing this through loans to China from the World Bank, which China then graciously relends to US, making us their debtor.)

(BTW, somebody explain to me how China is sitting on a reserve of %3 trillion dollars?  That was done through currency manipulation and little else. We let them get away with that. If they had to play by the rules that cash reserve would draw down very quickly. But we have allowed them to set the value of the Yen at above market price and then use it to obtain the three billion. That money is an illusion, which is why China is so poor while appearing to be so rich - and why China has to take out loans even while supposedly having so much cash.)

Bear in mind the World Bank is supposed to lend to developing nations, not developed nations. China is using this to fund the Belt and Roads project, thus forcing the Third World countries into a debtor's trap - with money they borrow from stupid Westerners. Cute trick.

At any rate, China continues to grow, but only for a season. I rather think of China as a kind of weed; prolific, quick to grow, but ultimately unfruitful. It will eventually fail because of the same internal contradictions as the Soviet Union. But it can do a lot of damage in the meantime.

That's why we should take a hard line with China. And stop borrowing money from the Dragon.

Last Flying Tiger Dies

We reach a sad milestone. The last of the WWII Flying Tigers has  passed away. He was 99.

Frank Losonsky, 99, died Thursday at home from natural causes, his son Chris told the Ledger-Enquirer in a phone interview Monday. No funeral service is planned, he said.

According to a 2019 article on the Voice of America website, Losonsky was the last survivor of the Flying Tigers.

That’s the nickname of the legendary World War II bombardiers officially called the American Volunteer Group.

They were 311 U.S. military service members recruited to help the Chinese Air Force fend off the Japanese invasion in mid-1941, according to WarBirdNews.com. Losonsky became a crew chief and sergeant with the 3^rd Squadron, nicknamed the Hell’s Angels.

After the United States joined the war in December 1941, the AVG disbanded and became part of the U.S. Air Force 23^rd Fighter Group in July 1942..

They don't make 'em like that anymore!  He will be missed.

The DOJ is finally going after sanctuary cities.

The Justice Departmentunleashed a legal assault on sanctuary jurisdictions across the country Monday, filing a new round of civil lawsuits asking judges to overturn the policies, and warning state and city officials they could soon face their own criminal charges for harboring illegal immigrants.

Lawsuits were filed against California, New Jersey and King County, in Washington, each of which has adopted novel ways of interfering with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s ability to arrest, detain and deport illegal immigrants.

Attorney General William P. Barr also said his department is taking a look at state and local prosecutors who pursue lesser charges against illegal immigrants in order to keep their rap sheets cleaner, keeping them off ICE’s radar.

It's amazing these communities have nullified Federal law for so long and gotten away with it. It's past time they were punished, and severely.

The Virginia legislature has taken another step toward banning guns.

The Democrat-controlled Virginia legislature moved forward on Friday to pass its strict gun-control legislation in a 12-9 vote to ban "assault weapons,” suppressors, and magazines that hold more than 12 rounds.

If passed into law, HB 961would ban popular guns like AK-47s and AR-15s, effective July 1. TheHouse Public Safety Committee vote brings gun-control measures one step further to receiving a signature from Gov. Ralph Northam.

While a handful of Democrats are unsupportive in the Senate, the bill is expected to easily pass the House of Delegates.

HB 961also bans shotguns with magazines that hold more than seven rounds, which is a prohibition that applies currently in some localities in the commonwealth.

Breaking the new law would be a felony, ABC13 reported. Additionally, the bill prohibits someone from selling, renting, trading, or transferring from his inventory an assault firearm to any person

Had Washington and his men not had guns we wouldn't have a country. Governor Steptoe and his ilk would have prevented the American Revolution.

Meanwhile, the same people want to give driver's licenses to illegal aliens so as to assure Virginia remains in their clutches.
