If
those toadies who populate Congress had kept to the standards set by
Davy Crockett, who stood by the ideas of the Founders and refused to
support a push to fund a widow (I believe it was) of a military
hero (wasn't it) out of public funds, saying in effect "I have no
problem with our opening our own pockets to donate to her, but there is
nothing in the Constitution to support giving her anything from the
budget." Democrats castigated him for being hard-hearted
even then. It's always about the money.
