Please Don't Feed the Spammers

Dear readers,

(This post will remain on top for a long while.)

The Aviary is under attack from a blizzard of spammers. We ask all readers in the strongest terms not to click on any suspicious link in the comments section, or any commercial link therein. Links in posts themselves are fine. The Aviary staff and management are in no way responsible for these ads and encourage everyone to avoid them in the strongest terms.

These people are despicable weasels. Please do not feed the animals.

BTW we are going to report have reported spammers to the DOJ, especially those trying to illegally sell narcotics. We are working with the authorities to stamp out this behavior.

1 I've reported "Mr. Oxy" to a government site where one can report illegal pharmacies. You can see the site's address in our private conversation "article." I firmly believe soliciting sales of oxycontin online consists illegal activity if it's being done by amateurs, and Mr. Oxy's site certainly looks like an Amateur Night operation. I did not need to give our site's coordinates, only my own e-mail address, in the process.

3 Here's hoping they don't consider him too "small potatoes" to bother with.
However, the fact that we're discussing the fact that we reported him to the Feds "out in the open" might spook him, if he actually reads anything here rather than using an automated spam machine that gets around the Captcha. Do you know how to modify that thing?

8 I agree with you, Sandra. Their site (have you looked at it?) looks like a totally fly-by-night operation; something a few kids dreamed up one afternoon before ingesting some of their own product. If you ask me, it's way too easy to create a website these days.

10 Not at all. I'm just saying that you used to have to know how to code HTML. Now, there are various tools available, at low cost, to enable one to create decent, though not exactly wonderful, websites with moderate capabilities, though not necessarily full-power sites. Enough to get one "on the air." Of course, it helps if one has a good sense of design.
