A remarkable article, published last week in Foreign Affairs—a magazine issued by the US political establishment known as the Council on Foreign Relations—reveals a story that would have certainly been censored as disinformation at the start of the war: It was all largely preventable. In what reads as part confessional and part opening salvo for future negotiations, the expansive report begins with a lucid summation of what could have been:

"What happened on the battlefield is relatively well understood. What is less understood is the simultaneous intense diplomacy involving Moscow, Kyiv, and a host of other actors, which could have resulted in a settlement just weeks after the war began.

By the end of March 2022, a series of in-person meetings in Belarus and Turkey and virtual engagements over video conference had produced the so-called Istanbul Communiqué, which described a framework for a settlement. Ukrainian and Russian negotiators then began working on the text of a treaty, making substantial progress toward an agreement. But in May, the talks broke off. The war raged on and has since cost tens of thousands of lives on both sides.”

The piece goes on to echo the substance of what President Putin told Tucker Carlson in that infamous interview a few weeks ago, differing only in minor details and in degree of emphasis. A negotiated settlement had largely been agreed to, only to be scuttled in part because of Western indifference to the outcome:

"So why did the talks break off? Putin has claimed that Western powers intervened and spiked the deal because they were more interested in weakening Russia than in ending the war. He alleged that Boris Johnson, who was then the British prime minister, had delivered the message to the Ukrainians, on behalf of ‘the Anglo-Saxon world,’ that they must ‘fight Russia until victory is achieved and Russia suffers a strategic defeat.’

The Western response to these negotiations, while a far cry from Putin’s caricature, was certainly lukewarm. Washington and its allies were deeply skeptical about the prospects for the diplomatic track emerging from Istanbul…

So instead of embracing the Istanbul communiqué and the subsequent diplomatic process, the West ramped up military aid to Kyiv and increased the pressure on Russia, including through an ever-tightening sanctions regime.”

If the original intent of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) was to "keep the Soviet Union out, the Americans in, and the Germans down,” it would seem the war in Ukraine is accomplishing at least one of those objectives. Germany—and Western Europe in general—has suffered mightily as a consequence of policies implemented with full US support. The situation is especially acute in the energy sector, where observation would indicate the overt goal of US foreign policy is to cripple the ability of Germany to compete in the global economy. If this indeed was the objective, it seems to be working splendidly, and a recent flurry of headlines demonstrates this aspect of the war is accelerating...

Trump's lawyers argued in court "there is nothing wrong with a candidate trying to influence an election - it's called democracy".

They are absolutely correct. A man running for office is not required to disclose every personal foible, nor is it illegal to pay someone via nondisclosure agreement. There is no underlying crime here.

I suspect that if we are going to prosecute politicians who pay off every bimbo who comes out of the woodwork we are going to have to expand the number of courts.

Certainly Bill Clinton had more than his share of NDA's and in fact had a "bimbo eruption squad" to silence such women. Nobody suggested what he was doing in that regard was illegal.

In fact Mr. Clinton's people got Monica Lewinsky a job in New York to get her out of D.C. when the story first broke about their affair. No Republican suggested investigating that action then, even though it was obvious it was done to cover up a crime.

Clinton was prone to many such crimes and "election interference". He had his own brother kidnapped the day before the election and held so he couldn't screw things up at the last minute in the '92 election, for instance. But because Roger Clinton didn't press charges - and his brother now controlled the federal law enforcement authority - it went nowhere.

But Donald Trump gives a porn star who clearly hates him a few dollars to go away and he's guilty of destroying the rule of law in the minds of the press and of the despicable state of New York.

There IS a crime here, but it's being committed by the folks prosecuting the former President.

Our Solar System is unique in that we do not exist in a fixed position within a single constellation. Our Solar System orbits the center of the Milky Way faster than the rotation of the Milky Way, specifically 10,000 km/hr faster. Ergo, we pass through the constellations which comprise the Zodiac. Neither Einstein, Newton, nor Kepler were aware of this.

In the same way as crustal stresses imposed by the gravity fields of neighboring celestial bodies, from the Sun out to Jupiter, our passage through the Zodiac brings us through the Gravity Wells of other Stellar System. Concentrated masses which require centuries to pass by. Logically, this phenomena causes major climate change of significant duration and it would proceed on a more or less repetitive cycle.

Haven’t we all been frustrated by the driver who can’t bring himself to get around a big rig on the interstate highway. He lingers in the truck driver’s blind spot while we’re all cussing him to "Damn it ! Just hit the gas and get around that guy !”

Imagine if the opposite were true and Muslim students were being harassed on campus and protests calling for the extermination of Arabs were ongoing there. Somehow I suspect these universities would do whatever it took to end this. The dirty little secret is these kids didn't come up with this on their own. Here is an example from my life experience.
I earned a job as a Project Manager on a START II, Arms Reduction Act Project in Russia.
I had experience working on these kinds of projects in Ukraine the year before. The man who hired me was the president of a brand new company.
He was a University of Georgia Graduate, that landed an internship as a Page for Senator Sam Nunn, Democrat from GA, and he learned the ins and outs of government contracts, while working for the Senator.
With help from the Senator, and I am sure they both started out with good intentions.
They applied for an Arms Reduction Act Project, that the Senator co-authored. It was written and sponsored by the Senator Nunn and Senator Lugar.
The power of easy money is too enticing and easily corrupts good people.
So my new boss, after learning how to manipulate the system. Invented a new Construction Company out of thin air and bid on a multi million dollar project.
There was no risk to him with a taxpayer cost plus contract, and the Senator would get consulting fees and keep the appropriation committee feeding funds to the project and keep the consultants fees coming.
The phony construction company would do everything in it's control to fulfill the project, but the longer it took to complete, the more money it would make.
The Russians would ask for and receive extra funding for unforeseen costs and they re negotiated the contract throughout the life of the project.
In the end the contract was two years over schedule and five times the original cost projection.
The Russians received three new factories furnished with western technology, equipment and training to build better weapons than the ones we destroyed.
It made all Americans feel proud that we were doing SOMETHING to deter a nuclear war. It was a lie and Americans were told we made the world safer. In reality, we paid for the demolition of outdated Soviet weapons and refurbished the weapons facilities to make better weapons.
It was a Media manufactured False sense of security.
Everyone got rich, except the American Taxpayer, who got fleeced again!
As an example. The first rocket we pulled out of a silo in Ukraine, to be destroyed, was in 1995. The Russian installed Factory Director of a Ukrainian factory, closed the gates and demanded an additional $5 million.
Our Secretary of Defense, William Perry called President Clinton and asked what he should do. They were being broadcast on TV in front of the world, being embarrassed!
Bill said, give the Director the money.
It is better to look good in front of the press than to look like the fools we are!
After that day, the Russian Factory Director closed the gates to our Joint Venture factory every month to re-negotiate!

I wrote this right after the eclipse but set it aside for a while to take a fresh look. Great art, be it poetry or music or painting or whatnot, has more than one thing you will get out of it if you look at it and that was what I was attempting to do here. Also I wanted to write a kind of biblical tale of the eclipse. See what you think:

Get yourself up, they told me, and behold the death of the light
come and see they scolded me, so I went for the afternoon night

And a great multitude of people, all our nation with cars in low gear
joined together in the great migration to watch the sun's light disappear

The road was was so long; a stream of endless taillights
the engines sang their sad songs as the desperate souls took flight
Start, stop, start at the command of the red warning lights
Like the dripping sand of the hourglass time slipped away in small bites

For hours so it passed and my legs started to cramp
but there was never a rest stop, no sign of an off ramp
there was nothing but the flashing of the stream of red lamps
we kept creeping along as if under a spell, an
enchantment

hour after hour we crept to the dark
like the souls being ferried by Charon, soon to debark

The time was growing short as the hourglass neared dry
I would not make the fort even if my truck could fly
my plans I must abort or the great thing would pass me by
I found a stretch athwart the road and peered up at the sky

The night had taken a bite out of the light

Like Satan devouring souls the sun was turning into night
a round black hole chipped right out of our sight
and slowly but surely the dark one snapped another bite
to swallow up the light in hios orgy of delight

The crowd was silent as the astral specter fed
and watched the stellar violence with very few words said
they watched the grave defilement as the light appeared quite dead
as Diana feasted on the bones and dined on stellar bread

Then, as if on Calvary upon that holiest of day
the sun turned off her light, with one last glorious ray
A starburst pattern, radiant against the lunar night
then all was gone, like a shade was drawn and it
disappeared completely from our sight

The orb of night bleeding tears of light
Dark speck in God's sight
murdering the light
but the star of our birth was not done with the fight

It wasn't gone, oh no!
the mighty Helious still put on a show!

Around the usurper moon there appeared a crown of piercing thorns
placed upon the head of light, a glory to adorn
the darkness had failed and all it's schemes were derailed and the darkness lay bleeding and torn
the beast gone to Jerusalem but facing a
conundrum,never to fully be born.

The darkness held as long as it was able
overcome by it's great struggle it fell right off the table
the sunlight poured out of the bowl, was dished out with a ladle
like that ancient star that hung above the mighty Kings birth stable.

Then the light came back in all of it's splendor
the glory of ages would never surrender
the warming fingers like a mother's, so tender
and the darkness now gone but we must remember

Everyone simply turned round and left
the roadside so full now was bare and bereft
of sky gazers intent on the astral scroll's cleft
of the crime of the night and the light's seeming theft

O simple Man when will the lesson you learn
or will you forget and in darkness will burn?
you see but are blind, you never do learn
what will you do when it soon comes your turn?

I take to the road but follow another path
It is a heavier load but I hope to avoid all the wrath

was it the sun that was shadowed or our minds and our hearts?
is it the sky that was cleft or our reason that parts?
who are we to forsee, with all of our arts
when the great eclipse comes and it all falls apart?
