Jacob's Staircase

A poetry group on Facebook put up a photo of a narrow, twisting staircase up a steep hill with lots of craggy trees and asked us to write poems about it. Here is my entry:

Jacob's Staircase

by Timothy Birdnow

Echoes of footsteps of souls seeking peace
up the eternal staircase go the newly released
The woods dark and lonely, the climb hard and steep
gnarly sentinels guard over souls that are reaped

What lies above, no one can say
Is it bright morning light or dreary gray day?
no choice do we have we must finish the climb
for the hour is late and we near the last chime

Where shall we go? Is it Heaven or Hell
do we rise like the Phoenix or descend down the well?
No-one knows, they just climb right along
Hoping for Heaven but fearing they're wrong

Pearly gates don't await but an arch made of boughs
are their guards waiting there with the fiery bows?
as they climb up the ladder to the sound of the crows
on the dark narrow staricase full of doubts and of woes

Climb foolish man, climb to your fate
the race you have ran and the hour is late
you could always escape you could always just flee
But now on the staircase all that's left is a plea

You have to go up, you have to go in
Will you drink from the cup or be judged for your sin?

Vance a Disappointment

Timothy Birdnow

Here are some thoughts on the Vice Presidential debate between Walzing with Timbo and J.D. Clampett, er, Vance.

First, the media was entirely in the tank for Walz and did not make much of an effort to hide the fact.
It was a truly disgraceful display! Walz had the final word every single time, and when Vance tried to rebut him they cut him off.

But in the end it was Vance's people who agreed to many of the debate terms and this is what happens. Our side has to stop being suckered by these people. Even Trump - the great negotiator - got swindled by ABC.

I was underwhelmed with Vance in that debate. To me his answsers were too stock and canned. Not that Walz was good but Walz at least was quick to jump on things Vance said. Vance missed multiple golden opportunities to really smite Walz. Case in point; Walz blamed Trump for killing the economy during Covid and Vance let it slide rather than pointing out it was Democrat governors like Walz who shut the economy down and not Mr. Trump and that Trump showed himself respectful of the rule of law by not forcing them to reopen (thus showing who the true danger to democracy really is).

Vance was far too soft with Walz. He also was quick to move on from past fights (such as the vote fraud business) making it look like he thought Trump was lying. He could have pivoted but first said something like "Trump's cases were never ruled on over merit but over procedural issues" after the hack moderators said Trump lost all his court cases and left it at that. But he didn't bother. And he made a total fool of himself over the abortion issue, condemning the GOP rather than pointing out America had the most radical abortion laws in the whole world (other countries all have some restrictions - just as the public wants in this country). He also let Walz get away with lying about his record in Minnesota over abortion (he did in fact sign legislation allowing abortion up to birth.) I just don't think Vance has the right stuff.

Also there was no mention of Walz letting BLM burn Minneapolis down. Walz mentioned the working class at one point and claimed he would better serve them and Vance could have said "I don't doubt you'll help the employment of firefighters as so many are needed to put out the fires you let BLM start in your state" but he didn't want to appear nasty.

He never once mentioned Walz commanding officer in the National Guard calling him a coward.

I do not buy this idea of playing nice to win votes. In my opinion that suggests to voters you lack a core of conviction, that you are just a politician whoring for election. Much is misremembered about Ronald Reagan and he is now used as the standard of how to win, but Reagan was not just likable and soft. Reagan went after the Left, sometimes quite brutally. That aspect of Reagan has been forgotten. Also, Reagan was from a different era where there was still some civility. That era is gone. Now you either fight or go under from the attacks. I doubt Reagan could be elected today. But try to tell that to the GOP strategists, who are still stuck in 1980! Not everyone needs to be a Trump, but everyone needs to be angry at what they have done to America and are trying to do to America and some righteous indignation is in order. Vance may as well have been running for dog catcher for all the passion he displayed.

And that constant talk about his background got really annoying. O.K. - we get it! You were raised by a drug addict in Appalachia.I certainly don't care and I doubt many others do either. Save that for your campaign speeches! A debate is supposed to be about facts, and Vance had plenty to use against Walz.

I read Vance did little prep. It showed. Walz obviously did a lot of prep. And he took notes during the debate, something Vance didn't do. That's why Vance missed so many hanging slow-balls; he forgot what had been said in Walz' two minutes.

VAnce came across as likable but not as someone you want at the helm. To use the old phrase from the 2000 election, he lacks gravitas. Walz, scheming commie that he is, at least seemed to have that quality.

Vance didn't hurt himself but I doubt he helped himself either. I haven't seen poll results yet but I think most people will call it a draw, or a Walz win. I scored that debate for Walz myself.

We need to do better. That starts with negotiating these debates. Why did they agree to CBS doing a Veep debate at all? And why not let Vance loose to tear into the old hippie?

I was very disappointed.

Regulatory Mafia

A Greg Delany

Time to get Government out of the regulation business!
There is no Constitutional Amendment allowing Politicians to dictate industry in America!
The cost of everything in the world is affected by Governmental interference!
Just by their regulations in the Oil and Gas industry. The cost of every product that depends on oil and gas has increase 100 fold.
You could allow the free market to dictate how much oil and gas are needed to meet the demand and the cost of everything will plummet. The US Government could purchase oil for the strategic reserve at a huge discount and store it themselves.
Inflation would disappear and the cost to transport would plummet as well. That way we could pay Truckers more money for their work and not have it go to fuel costs.
Plastics manufacturing cost would decrease
Air travel would be less expensive and the list goes on.
In my industry. The Construction Industry. The GC must add $100,000 for every new building constructed for a Government regulation on dust mitigation. It goes back to the EPA. The EPA concocted a bogus regulation to fine the General Contractors in the State of Arizona, if their dust particle reading are higher than their bogus number. It is a money grab!
Then they created an agency to inspect and fine the contractors if the sign we post has the wrong info on it, or there is a water truck onsite that is not registered in their data base. I must take a class every 3 years and get a certificate that must be kept onsite and we have to show daily records for how much water we used to combat the dust. The farmer across the street is exempt because he is regulated through the Dept of Agriculture.
If I use more than 6oo gallons of water per acre to combat the dust. I get fined by the BLM, because they determined that Arizona is in a Drought.
The EPA determined, if we do not use at least 600 gallons per acre we are not doing an effective job and will be fined.
Arizona is a desert. We are surrounded by large areas of dirt. Arizona is famous for dust storms because the wind blows here often and with vigor. Wind on dirt creates dust. This is when the EPA takes their measurements for dust particles!
Damned if you do and damned if you don't..
Get the Government thieves and Mafia out of the regulation business!

Another Big Steal Coming

Carlos Velazquez

218,000 ineligible people were wrongly marked as having provided proof of citizenship in a massive "registration error" in Arizona. Couple that with the AZ Supreme Court ruling that all people on voting rolls must be allowed to vote means that 200K+ illegal votes will probably be cast in a state where the margin of victory was razor thin last time. AZ officials "promised" that the illegal voters will be contacted AFTER the election.

Tim adds:

Yeah; they'll get right on it after they steal the state for Harris. This is election fraud. The Sec State swore an oath and among his/her duties is to faithfully execute the election laws of the state and the nation. If Arizona Republicans had anything on the ball they would impeach the SOS immediately for this. But they will just let it go like they always do.

Stand with Israel!

Diane Kimura

Iran has attacked Israel. Some 500 rockets were launched into Israel on Tuesday night by Iran, following rocket alert sirens that blared throughout the country.

Sirens are ringing out across Israel, and civilians are huddling in bomb shelters. Now is the time to unleash hell and fury on the Iranian regime. Enough is enough. This terror has gone on for too long. This is completely and utterly unacceptable.

The world stands by while the #1 terrorist state uses proxies to massacre Jews. Now, the world urges restraint from Israel as its entire population is expected to weather the Iranian storm. Israel must obliterate Iranian oil reserves and cripple their entire economy. This terror must come to an end, and the Iranian people must rise against their terrorist leaders.

We must support the Democratic State of Israel and its right to exist.

Stand with Israel.

Carter's Legacy

Richard Cronin

On Jimmy Carter’s 100th birthday it’s time to reflect on his years in the White House.

I volunteer at Habitat for Humanity. Although Carter didn’t start Habitat, he put it in the spotlight. Habitat is now international.

Carter’s contributions at Camp David, bringing Israel’s Menachem Begin and Egypt’s Anwar Sadat to peaceful accords, as well as Habitat for Humanity stand as his most noteworthy accomplishments. I’m not so certain about other things.

Carter added to the bureaucracy with the feckless Dept. of Education and Dept. of Energy. For the most part the Dept. of Education is just useless. The Dept. of Energy is a center of corruption and crony capitalism — picking favorites in crackpot energy schemes and zero interest loans to the well-connected.

Remember the Great Plains Coal Gasification boondoggle?

Carter also established the Senior Executive Service (SES) which has proven to be even worse in building an elite class of bureaucrats. The SES is comprised of about 10,000 self-serving Secretaries, Deputy Secretaries, Directors, Deputy Directors, and a few chosen sons like Anthony Fau Chi. These exalted High Priests are above the "G” scale in compensation. For the most part they are compensated by the size of their budgets and number of subordinates. The Washington bureaucracy took off. Political appointees in the SES can be replaced at the will of the President. Those who rose up through the civil service ranks cannot be fired. Fau Chi was one such golden boy. He was a Made Man in the Mafia.

The Iranian hostage crisis and the bungled rescue attempt highlighted Carter’s weakness on the world stage. This is one item that Trump sized up perfectly. We should have sent in the 101st Airborne in there to kicked butt. As Trump was quoted: "Nobody would have held us in abeyance.” Khomeini would have been deposed and the current turmoil would never come into being.

Paul Volcker just about wrung the neck of the economy with his monetary policies. Mortgages went to 14% and then the devious "balloon mortgages”.

In the waning months of his administration Carter came on the TV from the White House shivering in his cardigan because he had turned down the heat to set an example for the rest of us to follow. Then he proceeded to whine about "malaise” — all but blaming the American people for his problems.
Tim adds:

Don't forget Carter presided over "stagflation" something Keynsian economists said was impossible. He also triggered a massive energy price spike and shortages.

The man was a dufus too. Remember the "attack of the killer rabbit" when Carter was in a canoe and he beat a rabbit with his oar? Or his hemorrhoid operation while in office? Or his "I have lusted in my heart" interview with Playboy (to show he wasn't a shmoe)?
And let us not forget his brother Billy urinating on the tarmac in front of foreign dignitaries.

Democrat House Speaker Tip O'Neil said of Carter's administration "they came in like pricks and they went out the same way." Carter was imperious and arrogant. He also used foul language in private. When the Shah of Iran called Carter said "F@ck the Shah!" and wouldn't take his call. Carter thought Khomeini was a reformer for crying out loud.

I suspect Carter was a well meaning imbecile. His emphasis on human rights as America's foreign policy as opposed to our national interest served neither purpose. Here he was dottering around in his sweaters, and using solar panels on the roof of the White House and saying America was in "malaise" because we didn't like being poor and disrespected overseas. He seemed to blame the American People for the problems his administration caused.

Oh, and Carter was a major liar. He claimed to be a nuclear engineer. All he was was a tech on a nuclear sub and he took a course or two in nuclear physics. He had no degree in either physics nor engineering. It was on the basis of this lie that many people thought Carter the most intelligent President we ever had but it was all based on lies. See https://harpers.org/archive/2019/03/the-real-jimmy-carter/ for more on Carter's lies.

The ILA President's short term Last Hurrah

Jack Kemp, the East Coast Editor Emeritus

If ILA President Daggett shuts down the regular East Coast ports, what else could become available?

The Chapel at the US Naval Academy honors Admiral Farragut's shutting down Confederate blockade runners who had been exporting cotton to England when the U.S. Admiral captured the Port of Mobile, Alabama in the Civil War. Does the U.S. Navy and Coast Guard have enough ships and sailors and BUDGET to stop goods from entering the U.S.? How great is the U.S. doing in stopping the illegal importing of drugs? - I ask rhetorically. Those drug runners must have access to some spare ships to bring in other high profit goods.

During Prohibition, a fellow named Joseph P. Kennedy illegally imported liquor from Canada in trucks and from Scotland, often using high speed boats the U.S. Coast Guard couldn't catch. That was one of Jimmy Hoffa's pet peeves against Bobby Kennedy, i.e., his father's crooked business helped finance the Kennedy's honest government crusades against Hoffa. And Hoffa had a legitimate point.

Recently there was a movie about the famed Dunkirk evacuation where many British private boats and fishermen aided the Royal Navy in evacuating over 300,000 soldiers from the Belgian Coast.

In 1958, I saw the movie The Buccaneer in which the pirate Jean Lafite combined forces with Gen. Andrew Jackson and local militias to defeat the British invasion forces. One interesting part of the film was the showing of how Lafite operated a duty free shopping plaza on one of the many small uncharted islands outside New Orleans where he sold pirated goods. He even arranged for small ships to bring his customers in from New Orleans to his bargain island. In fact, Jean Lafite was a Jew and he opened up what was arguably the first Shopping Mall. In the movie, the daughters of upper class New Orleans loved to shop there for the latest European styles - at a discount.

Americans have a history of innovative ways to make money. Do you think various major mobsters wouldn't go into a new "import-export" business if there was big money in it? They already have much experience with importing illegal drugs. Yes, poor and middle class Americans would have limited access to this sea train - but they might get jobs in a new enterprise - just as hard drug and pot dealers get work right now.

I recall as a boy going to Rockefeller Center where the US Rubber Company had a flagship showcase store/museum. One of the things on display were models of transport submarines towing huge U.S. Rubber bags behind them, full of oil or other commercial goods.

This ILA president Daggett may get to feel very important for a while as he also DESTROYS CHRISTMAS FOR MILLIONS, but it will be the Union's Last Hurrah. I can hear those Boston Dynamics robots marching through the gates of those East Coast Ports in a few years. And Biden will tell him to learn to code a computer - for a new job in India.

(Posted by North-Central States editor Dana Mathewson -- whose uncle was one of the Coast Guard captains who chased, unsuccessfully, Joe Kennedy's "rum running" captains. Uncle Bill told about sitting at a bar once, next to a fellow who turned out to be a rum runner he'd been chasing earlier that day and who told him "You darn near caught me! If you'd just had a faster boat...")

Trump Rising

Timothy Birdnow

Harris is bombing with labor Democrats and isexpected to pick up a scant 9 point lead over Donald Trump, according to a CNN data analyst and pollster Harry Enten.

This is the poorest showing of any Democrat among labor in modern times.

Trump also holds a whopping 31% polling lead over Harris among trade school graduates.

Harris is also dropping with blacks and Hispanics, a core Democrati constituency, dropping to a 28% lead from Joe Biden's 45%. (How blacks or Hispanics could vote for Democrats after decades of broken promises and neglectis beyond me.)

Israel Invading Lebanon

Timothy Birdnow

Israel launches a ground offensive in Lebanon.

The Middle East - quiet under Mr. Trump - is now on the verge of all out war.

How long before Iran moves troops in? And will that trigger the Russians?

I am mindful of the Biblical prophecies of the end times, especially in the Old Testament, which suggests Russia will invade Israel and be beaten, leading to the invasion by "the King of the East".

More and more it looks like something like that could happen.

Walzing with Timbo-too!

In honor of the Vice Presidential Debate, one from the archives:

To every Australian I deeply apologize:

There once was a cackling shag girl
who really was a ding-a-long
Swept off her feet and she went to D.C.
and she hid in her room
as she waited for the old man's fall
then she'll go a Walzing with Timbo you'll see

Walzing with Timbo
walzing with Timbo
She'll go a Walzing with Tim in D.C.
as she cackled and schemed and always managed to be
wrong
Oh she'll go a Waltzing with Timbo, you'll see!

So Joe Biden just gave up and he said that soon he
would be gone
Kam hustled quick so she'd be the nominee
and the word salads flew as Joe Biden she denied she
knew
She'll go a Walzing with Tim in D.C.

She denied she was the Border Czar, lied that she was tough on crime
wanted us to go to war while taking our last dime
But we all still remember that she made sure crooks
served no time
Now she wants to Walz with Timbo in D.C.
As the Trump-et shot it flew and her new v.p. has not a
clue she picked a hard leftist 'cause a Jew wasn't right
and she jumped into the deep end and hid a record she
could not defend
Oh she'll go a Walzing with Tim in D.C.

Walzing with Timbo
walzing with Timbo
She'll go a Walzing with Tim in D.C.
And her cackle may be heard with a salad full of many
words
She'll go a Walzing with Timbo you'll see

And her ghost won't be found as she'll campaign deep
from underground
She'll go a Walzing with Tim in D.C.

Time to Do Your Duty

A Greg Delany

The Democrat Platform! They are always pointing at someone else saying it is not our fault! Someone else is responsible for the country heading towards total Economic Failure in less than one year.
The Democrats are the most successful party when it comes to achieving their objectives.
Today I saw gas prices hit $5.65 a gallon in Phoenix, so no one can afford to drive to work.
California is raising fast food worker minimum wage to $20 hour, so a burger will cost $10 without cheese.
They have succeeded in using COVID and the Climate Change hoaxes to give them authorization to control the population and raise taxes!
We have become accustomed to inflation now and the destruction of the US Dollar and our economy!
They have openly allowed military aged men from foreign nations to flood our borders and cripple our welfare economy!
Check, check and checkmate.
Time to remove the enemies that of firmly implanted in our domestic government!
Are you ready to uphold your duty?

Look in the Mirror

Greg Malakof

For almost 4 years the Biden/Harris administration has flown in vicious gang members to many cities in order to intentionally create maximum harm. They fly them in much more now since the news finally started talking about the border. Now they can lie and say crossings at the border are down under their leadership because they fly in 30,000 a month. That is why they are angry that Trump stopped their bill because it was nothing to do with security and everything to do with legalizing what they've been doing, which is destroying America.

They'll say crime is down as well, but that is just because it is so bad with progressive D.A.'s that the police have given up arresting anyone since they will be instantly released. Plus, people are afraid to report the crimes since they'll get out of jail and kill them for complaining.

Is having your children raped and killed a democratic value? Taylor Swift says it is, but she doesn't have to deal with the misery of losing friends and family.

When Kamala says change she acts like she didn't create this mess as Border Czar. When her fans applaud these meaningless platitudes it makes a sane person wonder how could anyone be this damaged. She is brutally insulting everyone of her supporters. To make this as simple as possible, her next 4 years will be ran by the same exact people that created the last 4 years of horror. The only thing that will change is the veracity of their attacks against America.

Is burying your kid something a democrat wants to do because Kamala Harris is just so inspiring saying absolutely nothing? She is beyond mega vacuous and has to have her staff train her on how to pretend to drink wine. That is way below special needs kind of shit. Wasn't 4 years of Biden bad enough? Why does a democrat feel the need to be tortured worse than they already have been?

Ironically, the left went berserk when Trump pointed out that they were not sending us their best people. The democrats impeached Trump for calling Zelensky to find out about all of the kick backs Biden was getting from Ukraine. This week, the democratic party used Zelensky to interfere with our elections in swing states.

If you are a democrat I want you to look in the mirror and see the person that you despise. Give yourself a bonus point if you smack yourself in the face a few times for realizing just how dangerous you've been to society.

Media Mayhem

Greg Malakof

After being told that Joe Biden is the sharpest president we've ever had and belongs on Mt Rushmore you would think a few democrat voters might suspect something peculiar going on. Consider their 8 years of being told that Trump was a Russian spy and then Mueller admitting that it was a 100% hoax that they deliberately made to ruin Trump. Not a word from the democrats with their false sense of moral superiority.

I could go on for a very long time about their pathological lying but to make my point for this more current story, if every leftist news organization is saying something is not happening, you can be sure it is. If you don't want to see a dog that was tortured and being roasted on a fire for dinner, I suggest you don't watch this sickening video. Perhaps this video is not from Springfield, Ohio, I really don't know, but I'm going to count on the medias manipulation and strong denials to believe that it is? It would be nice to get a lot more proof at this point.

So instead let's ponder something that is 100% accurate. The Views Sonny Hostein was saying yesterday how upset she was when she learned that maybe 20 million Americans were very enthused about murdering Trump. She is pretending to be shocked by that yet doesn't seem to be aware that she is the one that created that hatred with their non stop total lies. After she announced that it was not a good thing for everyone to want to murder Trump, she had her guest Lilly Collin's take the oath that they try and make every guest take and swear her allegiance to hating Trump. If they are repeating that there is a threat to our democracy 24/7, you can be sure that threat is them.

Rumors of My Death are Greatly Exaggerated

Timothy Birdnow

Dear readers,

I am indeed alive and, well maybe not entirely well but well enough anyway. The dirty nap is quite a ways off yet (or so I hope anyway.)

I did a stint in the hospital over some minor issues. Unfortunately my phone went out so I was incommunicado.

I should be back in the saddle now.

Thanks for your patience.
