1 It's official. Scientists are unnecessary for morality.

Think I'm wrong? Look at the way Dr. Fauci behaved over the last few years.

2 "Scientists" are always opining on things well outside the scope of their fields and expertise. Morality is one such; there is no objective criteria for morality outside of religion.

3 Sadly, you look at the way many of today's religions are going, and there's precious little morality to their approach, or their theology.
And I suppose you could say that morality is unnecessary for science, except that then you bump into the "yes, we can do it but should we do it?" questions, like "should we clone humans" question, and then morality comes roaring back to slam you in the face -- if you recognize it for what it is.

About that last; Mary Shelly's Frankenstein shows that scientists have been like that at least since her time in the 19th century. Caring  more about being able to do something than if they should.
