Business Insider quotes an AP story to the effect that Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro plans to skip a UN meeting he'd planned to go to. Why? He has fears that his opposition may kill him.

Gee, why would anybody want to do that?

He was going to the U.N. to combat what he called "a hate campaign against his socialist government." But I thought socialism produced paradise on earth for the people. Maybe it's just for the people running the governments? Could it be that the citizens are upset at the horrendous rate of inflation, and Maduro's crazy methods of attacking it?

He goes on about how "opponents backed by the U.S." are looking for ways to "remove him" and he's worried about security concerns. I thought it was President Obama who meddled in other countrys' politics, as in when he actively encouraged Israel's Prime Minister's opponent in recent elections. Guess I've been asleep at the switch.

Oh, well. Frankly, if I were he I wouldn't leave the Presidential Palace!
