Paxton Going After Delinquents

Timothy Birdnow

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton supports the resolution calling for the prosecution of Texas Democrat legislators who have fled the state to avoid a quorum needed for redistricting.

Paxton, you may remember, was impeached by the very same legislature with all the Democrats against him and a number of RINO Republicans. He has no love lost for the Dems in the state house.

The GOP currently holds 25 congressional seats out of 38 allotted to the Lone Star State. Redistricting would advance that number up to 30 of 38.

Paxton issued this statement:

"I am prepared to do everything in my power to hold them accountable because these liberal lawmakers are not above the law. It’s imperative that they be swiftly arrested, punished, and face the full force of the law for turning their backs on the people of Texas.”

And he is a man of his word.

The Texas Supreme Court upheld the state constitution in a ruling the last time the Democrats pulled this little stunt, saying the law empowered the state to take all necessary action against delinquent Democrats.

Gov. Gregg "Hey" Abbotttttt noted that these lawmakers went to Illinois and New York, both states that used redistricting to eliminate Republicans and gerrymander congressional districts. Most of these Texas banditos have gone to the two citadels of Democratic power.

In fact gerrymandering is why the U.S. House is so close in the first place; the Democrats changed the rules and used redistricting to steal extra seats.

So the prosecutions should begin and these clowns need to be rounded up by the Texas Rangers.

Keep your eye on Ken Paxton; he'd make a dandy AG to replace Bondi, and in time could well be a winning Presidential candidate in a few years.

1 I have a lot of respect and admiration for Gov. Abbott!

I want to point out something here that everyone on TV is getting wrong, that I learned in 1964 in my college American Government class: "Gerrymander" is pronounced with a hard initial G, not a soft one. It's named for Senator (I believe, though he might have been a Representative) Elbridge Gerry, way back in the early days of the republic. My professor made a point of it way back then because everybody was mispronouncing it then, too. And if my prof said it was so, it was: he did not make a habit of being wrong about things!

2 Your prof was right. It is pronounced GARYmandering, not Jerry. But everyone says it witth a j and who am I to stand in the way of a societal consensus? (Actually I do all the time but as my old Russian teacher used to say pronunciation is whatever society wants it to be which is why English is so convoluted in spelling.)

Gerry was an interesting guy. He was a governor of Massachussetts, Vice President under Madison, and of course a former House member. Sadly he is best remembered for cooking up the political scheme that bears his name, which is a fancy way to cheat.

Of course the Democrats have been gerrymandering districts for years now and what is happening in Texas is just an attempt to right that particular wrong.

Take Nikki Budzinski's congessional district; the Democrats in theIllinois created it for her  specifically, since she was owed by Barack Obama for loyal service. It is a long, long, serpentine disttrict in what is primarily a fairly Republican area. She is only in Congress because of gerrymandering.

3 You'd have loved my American Government prof, and our class. He was a mid-westerner and had the flat accent -- and sense of humor. He was a Democrat (before that became nasty) and one of the women in the class -- older than the other students -- was a Republican delegate to something or other. The two of them loved and greatly respected each other, of course.

I'll never forget the day after Gov. Rockefeller divorced his wife; Dr. Dawley walked into class and just said "Well?"
