Kentucky Fried Sicken

Timothy Birdnow

So what happened in Kentucky?  Matt Bevin, who has been described as an a#%#$le by many people I know online, lost to the Democrat in an election that saw Republican pickups statewide. So what made Bevin lose?

The Libertarians are taking the credit/blame.

From Pajamas Media:

Now, before so-called conservatives get angry: the Libertarian Party had very good reasons for going after Bevin. As the party explains:

Had Matt Bevin not ditched his liberty Lt Governor for a Mitch McConnell picked anti liberty, corrupt running mate who has tried to eliminate Kentuckians jury trial rights, had Matt Bevin not presided over a huge sales tax increase, had Matt Bevin supported any of our key issues on criminal justice reform, marijuana legalization, expanded gaming, cutting taxes, or acted with the least bit of civility, we probably would not have run a candidate. Of course, he did the opposite. And here we are.
In other words, Bevin turned hard left.

The Libertarian candidate finished with 28,426 votes, or two percent. Enough to hand the election to Jay and Silent Bob.

Or maybe not. Bevin is demanding a recanvas since it is likely the Democrats cheated as is their custom.

According to the CNN article:

Kentucky law does not allow for a recount in a gubernatorial general election, but a campaign may request a recanvass of the votes with the secretary of state. There is no threshold or margin requirement for a recanvass.
Kentucky Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes announced Wednesday that her office had received the Bevin campaign's recanvass request. She announced it would occur at 9 a.m. local time on November 14, in accordance with state law.

All 120 counties in Kentucky are required to submit their certified vote forms by Friday. Those certified results will be recanvassed next week.
A recanvass is a reprint of the receipts from voting machines to check for reporting or clerical errors. After ballots are scanned, the machine tabulates those votes and prints out a receipt with the total.
During a recanvass, those receipts will be reprinted and checked again to make sure they were reported properly. It's not uncommon for some clerical errors to occur during the initial vote tabulation.
All 120 counties would then fill out and submit the same certification forms again with the recanvass results.

It seems unlikely that Bevis, er, Bevin will beat Andy Beshear, the Democratic Attorney General who is leading Bevin by 5,000 votes.

Still, Rosie O'Donnell hasn't sung yet.

One question; if Bevin lost because he's kind of a jerk, why is Trump so popular? Bevin seems to have a personality rather comparable to Trump. But Trump has tacked right of where he was in bygone years before entering politics, and he fights. Bevin seems to have tacked Leftward.

The fact is, we are now in a political climate where everyone has to choose sides, and stand tall. The politics of Waffle House is no longer acceptable. You are with us or against us.

Sounds like Bevin tried to walk down the middle of the road. Like a turtle, he just got crunched. (I guess he figured he doesn't look like McConnell so he could just ACT like a turtle.)

1 I thought you were going to talk about what happened at Church's Fried Chicken in San Diego. Guy tried to pay with a counterfeit $100 bill, was refused. He left, came back armed and started shooting. Three dead and ten wounded, several of them critical. Damn.

2 I hadn't heard about that, Bill.  Why didn't the guy just hold the place up?  It would have been better for him, and for the victims, too.
