Blessed are the Peacemakers...

Trump announces peace deal between Israel, UAE

President Trump hailed an agreement Thursday that normalizes relations between Israel and the United Arab Emirates after a long history of sharing no formal diplomatic ties.

In a joint statement, the countries and the U.S. said the deal will "unlock the great potential in the region” and pave the way for cooperation on everything from tourism to technology and health care.

Bet you won't hear about this on CNN!

Kamala Harris, Sedition, and ICE

Timothy Birdnow

The Klan was a terrorist group, like Antifa or BLM. ICE is a law enforcement agency charged with protecting America's borders. Harris is vile.

Kamala Harris Compares ICE Officers to KKK

Well, Backstroke Harris has supported the BLM riots. That makes her guilty of sedition:

18 U.S. Code § 2383.Rebellion or insurrection
U.S. Code

Whoever incites, sets on foot, assists, or engages in any rebellion or insurrection against the authority of the United States or the laws thereof, or gives aid or comfort thereto, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than ten years, or both; and shall be incapable of holding any office under the United States.

Arguing with Idiots: The New Normal

Timothy Birdnow

Looks like I may have a new arguing with idiots edition.

Ev stated:

Masking-wearing is now a common, public cowering place from the invisible "enemy". Given solid evidence that mask-wearing is largely ineffective (in even highly conscientious, expert-trained Healthcare Surgery Rooms) for even bacteria-sized problems (much less, the infinitesimal, virus-sized particles); and given the cost-defectiveness of mask-wearing evidenced by the myriad of added physical and psychological expenses of mask-wearing without quantifiable cost/benefit; and given the horrifying, cross-infecting behavior of multiple mask-wearers readily observed in every crowd next to you, WHY is mask-wearing so prevalent?

Sonny & Cher sang:

I was born in the wagon of a travelin' show
My mama used to dance for the money they'd throw
Papa would do whatever he could
Preach a little gospel
Sell a couple bottles of "DOCTOR GOOD"

Since viruses have always been with us and presumably always will be with us: Can there ever be an "All-Clear-Signal" for mask-wearing? If so, what is your criteria for such a signal?

Flu Season will soon be upon the Western Hemisphere again . . .

Fear is the greatest robber. It multiplies geometrically, like a virus, where Courage dies.

Trump's Payroll Tax Reduction Plan

This from David C. Moyer:

All of you folks with TDS are objecting to Trump proposing something that should have been on your agenda forever. Maybe it is because it will remove one of your talking points when you want to object to a tax rate cut (not the same as a tax cut, BTW). Whenever a tax rate cut is proposed the libs trot out the idea that low income workers pay a higher tax rate than billionaires. That is because every worker pays the 6.2% SS tax and the 1.4% Medicare tax and their employer pays an equal amount. Billionaires earn most of their income from investments that are usually taxed at capital gains rates. So, the Payroll taxes are highly regressive. Trump is proposing something that hasn’t been fleshed out AFAIK but it should be the progressives’ favorite proposal. If the payroll tax is eliminated the average worker will benefit the most and billionaires won’t even know that anything happened.
Rather than celebrating this progressive move, TDS sufferers claim that this is an attempt to eliminate SS. Seriously??? There is no way in hell that SS will be eliminated. Do you realize how many SS recipients are among the heavily armed citizens that vote in every election?? For a while payroll tax collections have been lagging SS payouts and it will be getting worse. So, SS must cash in the federal government debts that comprise the SS Trust Fund. That means, more and more of SS has been coming out of regular income tax funds- a very progressive tax. The rich pay more of this. Trump’s proposal just accelerates this trend. Many progressives think that workers shouldn’t have to pay payroll taxes and that the "rich” should be funding SS and all other government programs. But because Trump proposed it, it is anathema. TDS. He is NOT a CONSERVATIVE. That might hurt him among those of us who ARE conservatives, but the TDS folks should be praising his proposal.

Pitching Wu

This from Joe Bastardi:

2 things 1) Back in March I said the actual number of cases would be much greater, 5-10x than detected, That was told to me by my doctor friends that have advised me, But in the article notice how it makes reference to how this debunks herd immunity ideas, which very well may be true.

However there is no mention on how much lower that makes the actual death rate with this, and when one considers age and pre existing factors, you cant argue with the math, If there are 50-60 million people with this and you look at actual deaths per age group and pre-existing conditions, under 40 your chances of succumbing to this are absurdly tiny, There are even quite small for older people, but naturally older people are more prone to have problems with any disease like this, But do the math If there are around 50 million people with this, and you look at deaths ( and many of those are with Covid, not due strictly Covid as lets say cancer or an accident) then an open minded person will not dismiss it as nothing, but realize that there is an agenda driven missive at work here.

A word from Tim:

Herd immunity generally requires fifty percent of the population catching the illness and getting better - or getting vaccinated, which is generally the same thing. If only fifty or sixty Americans have had it then we have yet to reach the necessary numbers to reach herd immunity.

BTW the only way any epidemic ends is via herd immunity unless you can destroy the disease vector - the method the disease is transmitted. It can be done by cleaning water, or killing mosquitoes, or doing a better job of eliminating mice and rats. But a disease that is contagious from person to person must run it's course.

So the fact that more people have had it is a good thing.

The Aim of Practical Politics

Timothy Birdnow

Here are two quotes from H.L. Mencken that pretty much nails it:

"The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed, and hence clamorous to be led to safety, by an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary."

"The desire to save humanity is almost always a false-face for the desire to rule it."

Shut Up Already!

Timothy Birdnow

CNET is reporting lawmakers are demanding Facebook and Twitter do more to "stop climate denial".

That's right; they want to censor opinion that doesn't comport with their own radical views.

From the letter:

"With the consequences of inaction towards climate change becoming ever more catastrophic and dire, we believe you have a responsibility to your users to stop those seeking to blur the lines between facts based on climate science and those peddling pseudoscience"

"the broader safeguards you have adopted have not sufficiently stemmed the tide of disinformation regarding climate change online."

Why so afraid of an honest and open debate? Where do "deniers" (a vile name intended to associate those who disagree with current establishment thinking on a scientific matter with fans of Nazism and deniers of the Holocaust) get their facts from, I would ask? From, uh, SCIENTISTS. It's just that the Left wants Global Warming to promote world government and socialism, and debate be damned. Science be damned as well.

Chicago Downtown Doomed?

This courtesy of Steven Kipp:

"We are witnessing the permanent hollowing out of urban downtowns..."'We have to have additional patrol resources dedicated to downtown right now,' he said. 'This is getting out of control, rapidly. If people are afraid to come downtown, they fear for their life, they’re not going to want to shop here. They’re not going to want to live here, and downtown will gradually hollow out.' Neighborhood groups echoed those concerns, specifically about safety. 'Nordstrom and Bloomingdales and Ferragamo, and all large Marquee stores that are on the avenue here attract people from all over the world and all over the U.S. and all over Chicago,' said Mike Riordan of the River North Residents Association. 'It’s one thing to lose control one weekend, but then it’s another thing for this stuff to keep on going. It opened the floodgates to a bunch of brazenness and lawlessness that we’ve never seen here before.'"Is Chicago's Magnificent Mile at Risk for Massive Store Closures Alderman Asks

Harris' Nubian Nonsense

Willis Eschenbach observes:

Kamala Harris is half Asian, the rest a mix of Jamaican black and white. Long straight hair, more Asian than anything else, so why doesn't she identify as Asian?

The answer of course is that there are far more perks if you say you are black than if you say you are Asian. In particular it's far easier to get into college.

Plus for a woman like Kamala, who is the privileged daughter of a doctor and a Stanford professor, and who grew up in a mostly white world ... claiming "I'M REALLY VERY BLACK, HONEST" gives her all kinds of street cred.

Which of course is inter alia why her reputation among black people is not all that great ... they're not impressed with that kind of "Look how black I am!" virtue signaling by an elite Asian woman who can easily pass ...

Rising Gun Sales Evidence of Rising Racism?

This from Kurt Womack:

Leftists can't resist making everything about race. Knowing Chicago gang-bangers are less likely to legally buy guns, and are killing each other in droves, and the Lamebrain Media refuse to acknowledge which skin pigment is doing most of the shooting, they have to (falsely) claim LEGAL purchasers are the racists:

Along with the general concern for personal security that these protests may have unleashed, additional data **suggests** that inherent racial tensions in our society also contributed to the June spike in firearm sales.

To examine this issue, we augment our analysis with data from Google Trends, which indicates the relative frequency with which individuals search for certain terms. Following an approach used in prior research, we track searches for a common racial epithet as a measure of racial animus.
In March, when the pandemic hit and firearm sales initially spiked, there were no substantive changes in search frequency for the racial epithet. Starting in late May and early June, though, those searches jumped, hitting their peak on June 19 (Juneteenth).

The increase in firearm sales in June **may have had nothing to do** with racial animus, **though**. The protests **could have** engendered concerns regarding personal security, and therefore greater firearm sales, with no relationship to the simultaneous increase in racial animus. The correlation in the timing of these changes **need not imply a causal relationship**. ...
It is unclear who was buying those firearms. Concerns regarding personal security related to racial tensions could lead individuals of any race, including Blacks or whites, to buy firearms. In general, however, whites are far more likely to own firearms than Blacks (49 percent versus 32 percent). [...] **weasel words**

Total focus is on LEGAL ownership, avoiding ILLEGAL possession.

[...] It is ^^concerning^^ that the necessary national discussion regarding racial injustice is leading to even more firearms in the hands of Americans.
Similarly, it would not be surprising for some citizens to respond to ^^perceived^^ limitations on police services with private provision. This **may** include purchasing more firearms. In a society fraught with racial tension, ^^it is not clear^^ that dismantling the police and seeing more private citizens purchase guns will lead to a safer world. Increased firearm sales are a potential – if unintended – consequence that merits attention as we endeavor to create a more equitable society. [end] ^^Leftist stupidity^^

Yes, it's called the law of unintended consequences, the Left has always owned the "race" issue, they have fucked up their agenda now by letting hate take over, so much for what MLK preached. Now they are surprised. The first graph shows that Obama has been dethroned as the best gun salesman, another legacy shot to hell. LOL

Slavery Not Just American

Timothy Birdnow

On Facebook Willis Eschenbach observed:

A good overview of the history of slavery. Well worth reading.

The Truth About Slavery

A man named Andy replied:

Good article. Slavery was legal and common for 10,000 years, until 1981 when it was finally outlawed in Mauritania, the last country where slavery was legal. We are all descended from slaves. The majority of the people in Viking cities and villages were slaves, same in the UK, Russia, Italy, and nearly every country prior to 1700. The U.S. was one of the first ten countries to make slavery illegal. Slavery was legal in China until 1910 and Russia until 1906.

I added:

And don't forget there are many places where it is NOT legal but is ignored. Nigeria, for example. And we have sexual slavery everywhere, as human trafficking is quite common. It is one of the things that infuriates me at the BLM types; they don't care about modern day slavery, in Africa, in Asia, etc. They want to keep beating on America for something we eliminated with the blood of tens of thousands of our citizens and vast sums of treasure.

Slavery was not eliminated in the European colonies of most nations until well after the U.S. Spain abolished slavery in Puerto Rico in 1873, for example, and in Cuba in 1886. The Dutch abolished it about the same time as the U.S. (in 1863.) Brazil abolished slavery in 1888. And, what is often ignored, is that the U.S. banned the slave TRADE in 1808. We certainly weren't the first to abolish slavery but we were hardly the last. And we did it at great cost, almost tearing out country apart. Nobody else did that (we had more reason than most to be attached to the institution because of cotton). Liberia - founded by freed American slaves - reinstituted slavery and kept it until the 1930's! But we are singled out. .
