America Deserves Better

Timothy Birdnow

After the election of 2000 Jimmy Carter and Jim Baker ran a commission to avoid vote problems in future. They strongly recommended that mail-in voting be illegal as it is ripe for fraud. The Democrats took the report and used it as a blueprint to steal 2020.

Most nations have learned mail-in voting is a dreadful idea more suited to banana republics.

Why Do Most Countries Ban Mail-In Ballots?: They Have Seen Massive Vote Fraud Problems
papers.ssrn.com

Diane Kimura adds:

Most developed countries, especially in Europe, ban mail-in voting to fight vast fraud and vote buying that had threatened the integrity of their elections, according to an exhaustive review of voting rules and histories in over 30 major nations.

In the European Union, 63% have put a ban on mailing in ballots except for citizens living overseas. Another 22% have imposed a ban even for those overseas. And most of those that allow mail-in ballots require some form of photo ID to get one, according to the report from the Crime Prevention Research Center shared with Secrets.

"These countries have learned the hard way about what happens when mail-in ballots aren’t secured. They have also discovered how hard it is to detect vote buying when both those buying and selling the votes have an incentive to hide the exchange,” said author John R. Lott, the center’s president.

While politicians in the United States have been debating the pros and cons of mail-in voting due to concerns of spreading COVID-19 at the polls and new reports of postal service and vote counting issues, Lott, whose center is known for its gun research, built a voting database of the European Union and the larger Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development countries.

Those countries, said Lott, are typically held up by Democrats as a model to follow.

"Liberals and progressives often try to model the U.S. on Western European countries in many ways, but you never hear them arguing that we should adopt their voting rules. There is a reason for that. Banning mail-in voting or requiring people to use photo IDs to obtain a mail-in ballot is quite common in developed countries, especially in Europe,” he said in the report.

The report, titled Why Do Most Countries Ban Mail-in Ballots? They Have Seen Massive Vote Fraud Problems, listed the rules for voting and widespread cases of fraud and vote buying. His report also listed notable cases of fraud in U.S. voting.

He ended up calling mail-in voting a "throwback to the dark old days of vote-buying and fraud. Like most of the rest of the world, Americans deserve a more trustworthy system.”

X Marks the Spot

Timothy Birdnow

There is a hippie colony just south of Carbondale so I wouldn't be surprised if a bunch of moonbat types show up to be beamed aboard! Especially since this is on the Shawnee Hills wine trail and most will be liquored up...

BTW That is beautiful country; the Illinois Ozarks. Most of Illinois is flat prairie and farms but down here it's beautiful hills, nice lakes, the Little Grand Canyon, giant bolders and the like. There is the Bald Knob Cross of Peace; a hundred foot tall porcelein crucifix on top of one of the highest peaks in the state, and it's lit at nnight. Visible for 600 square miles. A wine trail featuring 14 wineries. And it's the northern part of Little Egypt the delta-like area at the confluence of the Ohio and Mississippi rivers. Oh, and Southern Illinois University Carbondale is a major university there. The wife and I have been going there for years, long before anyone knew about it.

Roy W. Spencer

"X" marks the spot... the end-of-days/extraterrestrial-visitation folks are missing a great opportunity with the upcoming solar eclipse on April 8. There is an open field 6.3 miles SW of Carbondale, IL where the 2024 solar eclipse path passes exactly over the path of the August, 2017 solar eclipse path. This forms an "X", which is obviously ET's way of telling us this is where we should gather to be transported, Styx-style, into the sky! Come sail away, lads! Be there at 2 pm (CDT), or be square!

Tim adds:

Maybe it's a big X to tell other aliens to stay away as we are obviously not an intelligent of hospitable species?

AnthonyWatts theorizes it denotes the hideout of the X men. As SIU Carbondale is just six miles away perhaps Professor  X lives there and commutes to his classes.

The Trojan Hearse

Timothy Birdnow

Here is an analysis of the unlamented dead border bill. It was clearly a Trojan Hearse.

That any Republicans signed on with it is disgraceful. Every last one of them needs to be primaried and removed from office.

A Big Bag of Wind

Timothy Birdnow

Offshore wind power is great! It now costs twice what everyone thought it would and chews up birds in the process.

Offshore Wind Now Costs More Than Double the Original Estimates in New York
instituteforenergyresearch.org

Here are the takeaways:

1

Despite Biden’s belief that renewable energy such as wind and solar are the cheapest forms of electricity, New Yorkers are about to receive higher bills for offshore wind that will raise their rates by more than twice what was originally agreed to in earlier canceled contracts.

2

New York’s solicitations to cover the higher cost for offshore wind is also being used in other Northeastern states, allowing wind developers to rebid for higher prices and receive new contracts.

3

Offshore wind is much more expensive than most other forms of electricity and these states are committing their residents to markedly higher rates well into the future.

Gee,what a bargain!

Climate Nihilism and Science Millenialism

Timothy Birdnow

Stephen Heinz posted this bit about climate nihilism:

If you look at the growing government programs, they are a means to launder money and enrich the elites. Al Gore knew this as did other charlatans who cherry picked data, ignored others, and became wealthy by fear mongering to sheep who bow at the altar of big government.

All of these so called climate alarmists preach climate nihilism and severe solutions (no beef, curtail agriculture, EV mandates, end fossil fuels, eat bugs) while they fly in private jets or sail on yachts dining on the finest cuisine while taking in millions. They are the today’s snake oil salesmen who you are not allowed to question.

What kind of science censors or cancels anyone who dares to question the nihilistic rantings and fear mongering? Science is questioning and constant discovery.

An example of climate nihilism:

"Scientists Warn 1 Billion People on Track to Die From Climate Change.

The fossil fuels that humanity burns today will be a death sentence for many lives tomorrow.

A recent review of 180 articles on the human death rate of climate change has settled on a deeply distressing number. Over the next century or so, conservative estimates suggest a billion people could die from climate catastrophes, possibly more.

As with most predictions for the future, this one is based on several assumptions.

Technically, the 1000-ton rule does not take into account possible climate feedback loops, which could make future environmental fallout from carbon emissions even worse, even faster.

This rule is actually "an order of magnitude best estimate", which means it's more of a range, somewhere between 0.1 to 10 deaths per 1000 tons of carbon burned.

That leaves a lot of room for scenarios even more dire than the one outlined here.

"When climate scientists run their models and then report on them, everybody leans toward being conservative, because no one wants to sound like Doctor Doom," explains Pierce.

"We've done that here too and it still doesn't look good."

One is a rough rule of thumb called the '1000-ton rule'. Under this framework, every thousand tons of carbon that humanity burns is said to indirectly condemn a future person to death.

If the world reaches temperatures 2°C above the average global preindustrial temperature, which is what we are on track for in the coming decades, then that's a lot of lives lost. For every 0.1 °C degree of warming from now on, the world could suffer roughly 100 million deaths.

●●●●●》"If you take the scientific consensus of the 1,000-ton rule seriously, and run the numbers, anthropogenic global warming equates to a billion premature dead bodies over the next century," explains energy specialist Joshua Pierce from the University of Western Ontario in Canada.

... ●●●●●●●》"Global warming is a matter of life or death for a billion people," says Pierce. ...

Tim responds:

Yikes! How can anyone write such tripe with a straight face? We have had periods where it has been both MUCH warmer and higher carbon dioxide levels and not had this apocalypse they are predicting.

I would add that warming periods generally accompany increases in population, not huge loses. Cold kills; warm heals.

"Technically, the 1000-ton rule does not take into account possible climate feedback loops, which could make future environmental fallout from carbon emissions even worse, even faster."

Or make them better. The whole climate change debate is over climate sensitivity; are feedbacks positive or negative? There are many reasons to believe they are negative, that warming tamps down more warming (clouds, for instance, block the sun and form when it is warmer.) This fool assumes they are all positive - something for which we have little evidence.

Essentially what folks like this are doing is taking Christian belief in an Apocalypse and sucking religion out of it. This is End Time Theology sans God. Nothing more. They would do better to read the Book of Revelations.

And they just pull numbers out of thin air, like that "for every 0.1 degree warming a hundred million will die" nonsense. It was warmer during the Medieval Warming Period and population increased. During the Roman Warming Period probably too.

For example England's population grew during the MWP - from 1.4 million to 5 million by 1300 . Why? They had more food and fewer winter deaths. The population in Germany and Scandinavia rose from 4 million in 1000, to 11.5 million by the 1340 . By 1320 France's population surged to between 15 and 20 million. In fact all of Europe saw a population surge during the MWP.

By contrast the population drops during cold periods.

In the Americas during the Little Ice Age it has been estimated that 50 MILLION deaths occurred. I rather doubt that, or that the dying caused cooling, but certainly there was a big dropoff of population. The Mound builder culture in the Midwest, for instance, died out midway through the LIA. Their capital - Cahokia - was abandoned about the time Columbus discovered the New World. And we saw similar things happen to cultures in central and South America, notably the Mayans and Incans.

The population of Europe shrank with the sinking mercury.

Anyone who claims warming is going to kill all these people has not studied history.

They just made up the "thousand ton rule"; there is no scientific basis for this. As Mark Twain put it "there are lies, damned lies, and statistics". This is the third kind of lie.

This is Millenialism without Christianity, the Apocalypse sans God. It's an attempt to manipulate imagery from the Book of Revelations to get people to panic and stampede into the New World Order. It's the most vile sort of lie.

The Folly of the Return to Paganism

Selwyn Duke

To modern ears, using the term "pagan” pejoratively may smack of a supposed medieval intolerance, conjuring up images of a robed monk praying in candlelight or, maybe, of a Bible-thumping 19th-century missionary. In fact, pagan status may be considered hip and edgy today, embraced by people who rarely if ever know that the ancient pagans never did or would’ve called themselves "pagans” (the word derives from a Latin term meaning, in part, "incompetent soldier”). But fashions often don’t collide with facts.

And here’s a fact....

Francis Scott Key Bridge Destroyed by Freighter

Timothy Birdnow

Many people are theorizing that the ship which hit the bridge in Baltimore did not do so by accident.

A cargo ship hit the Francis Scott Key bridge and it collapsed, killing a number of people.

The ship apparently lost power prior to the accident, for instance.

Coincidence? Probably. But if it was not we'll know based on how this is treated. If it disappears from the news cycle we'll know it was terrorism/an act of war. If not it will be beaten to death and probably blamed on Donald Trump and the GOP House.

If it was terrorism they aren't going to tell us. The Biden Administration can ill-afford a terrorist attack against the U.S. not with the election coming.

Granted, foreign wars sometimes help the incumbent, provided he rises to the challenge, but not always. The Gulf War certainly did little to help George H.W. Bush, despite immediate enormous popularity among the voters just after the war.

IF Biden is going to war he either needs to win it or start it just before the election, but either way he can't stumble his way through it.

So his people won't allow any leaks of information on this and the media will happily spike the story.

But if it is an accident they will try to turn it to their advantage. Blame it on deregulation or poor training for maritime officers or whatnot.

I find it interesting it hit the Francis Scott Key bridge - the bridge named after the author of our national anthem and the man who witnessed the American flag still flying after a fierce British assault.

It may turn out to be an accident but were I a terrorist I would probably target this bridge solely based on the symbolism.

Arguing with Idiots Consensus Edition

Timothy Birdnow

An argument on Facebook with a polite True Believer in climate change.

Lonnie Knaub, in response to my post about carbon 14, had this to say:

I understand that you are presenting an alternative perspective on climate change and the carbon cycle. However, it's important to note that the overwhelming scientific consensus is that human activities, particularly the burning of fossil fuels and deforestation, are significantly contributing to the increase in atmospheric carbon dioxide and global warming. While nuclear testing and other natural factors may have played a role, the primary driver is human-induced emissions. Additionally, the science on carbon dating and the Suess Effect is well-established and widely accepted in the scientific community. It's important to consider the cumulative evidence from multiple lines of research and not rely on individual studies or perspectives that may not represent the broader scientific understanding.

I’ve got a pertinent question I’d like to ask you please don’t hesitate to send me a DM ??

I retort:

Only the Best!

Timothy Birdnow

So,with so many wanting entry into the United States, why are we taking in so many low-quality people?

We are to obey the corollary to the Statue of Liberty poem "give us your trash, your criminals, your rapists and drug dealers and sex traffickers. Give us your degenerates and mooches."

We should rewrite the list of cutthroats by Hedley LaMarr (Harvey Korman) on Blazing Saddles https://www.pastemagazine.com/article/best-quotes-from-blazing-saddles

Hedley Lamarr : I want you to round up every vicious criminal and gunslinger in the west. Take this down.

[Taggart looks for a pen and paper while Hedley talks]

Hedley Lamarr : I want rustlers, cut throats, murderers, bounty hunters, desperados, mugs, pugs, thugs, nitwits, halfwits, dimwits, vipers, snipers, con men, Indian agents, Mexican bandits, muggers, buggerers, bushwhackers, hornswogglers, horse thieves, bull dykes, train robbers, bank robbers, ass-kickers, shit-kickers and Methodists.

Taggart : [finding pen and paper] Could you repeat that, sir?

The Exploding Cost of Homeownership

Cindy Schumacher

Owning the average home in 2024 now requires an income of $106,000, according to Zillow.

Just 4 years ago, you needed just $59,000 in income to afford the average home.

That's a $47,000, or 80%, increase in income from 2020 while wages are up just 23% over that time.

Currently, the median HOUSEHOLD income in the US is ~$75,000.

In other words, the median household income used to be 27% ABOVE the income needed to afford a home

Now, the median household income is 41% BELOW the income needed to afford a home.

China Building Latin American Silk Road

Timothy Birdnow

China has been building roads in Latin America to facilitate the invsion of the Unidos Estacia Americana aka the United States of America, which is rapidly adopting the lingua Franca of our southern neighbors as well as most of their population.

Many of the "refugees" coming here are Chinese men of military age.

The U.S. abandoned the Trans-America highway in no small part out of concern for massive immigration. China is now building it in no small part to facilitate the invasion of the U.S.

China already controls the Panama Canal, having taken over the management of it from Panama some years back. Now they will have a major highway to move people (and weapons) to the U.S.

The Chinese are doing what the Soviets had hoped to do; encircle the U.S. And we are letting them do it.

What Rough Beast?

Timothy Birdnow

Maine goes mad.

They Want to Trans Kids so Badly

This is nothing short of the desire to usurp the godhead. I wrote years ago about how abortion and euthanasia are the Left's way of giving themselves parity with God. This merely doubles down on that same evil.

The Bible says "male and female He created them" (Genesis 5:2) and these folks want to recreate them in a way never intended by God. This is a violation of the First Commandment.

The Left wants to be gods. This is the very same thing that led Lucifer to rebel

While we are on the subject, I would point to another Biblical passage 2Thessalonians 2:7 "For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only he who now restrains will do so until he is taken out of the way."

What does that mean? I would say the world situation is obviously circling the drain now and that because of one and only one reason; the United States has taken itself out of a position of strong, competent leadership. And why? Because we have rejected God in America. Oh, not in the heated way of radical atheists so much as in the cold and uncaring way mentioned in the Book of Revelation "To the Church of Laodecia you are neither hot nor cold. I wish you were hot or cold but since you are neither I will spew you out of my mouth". Jesus is right now spewing America and the Western World from His mouth and the end result is chaos across the globe and chaos in America.

The opposite of love is not hate but indifference, the old saying goes. Those not actively opposing God pay Him no mind. And that is why the spirit of antichrist is walking the land now.

Certainly transgenderism is a direct repudiation of God. It is witchcraft, an attempt to alter reality by a human act of will.

That energizes the enemies of God, who are empowered by the evil one himself as they see victory almost in their grasp. And as they mutilate and destroy children they do it not tentatively, or even clinically, but eagerly, desperate to impose their will because "my will be done!" and God can take a flying leap in their twisted minds. It's an act of violence against both the children and the Most High.

The Most High will win this contest of wills. But He will punish us all for letting this happen.

I am mindful of one final thing this Palm Sunday morning. In Revelation 8:1 John tells us "And when he openeth the seventh seal, there came silence in the heaven about half-an-hour,"

I fear we are in that horrible silence of half an hour. All hell is about to break loose. We brought it on ourselves too.
