Depression in Donkeyland

Timothy Birdnow

For those on the Right are not all that happy with losing the House of Representatives, I would suggest you read this essay from the leftist black newspaper The St. Louis American. The left is, if anything, more unhappy with the Democrats than we are with the Republicans.

Here is a taste:

"Dems seem to be clueless about how to select and support candidates (particularly those of color), how to value and engage their constituents, or how to strategically counter the red steamroller coming at us.

Thanks to tone-deaf Democratic Party leaders, key seats are being lost all over the country. Missouri is now flaming red with a supermajority Republican state assembly and governor. Only the state auditor prevails as the sole statewide Democratic elected official."

End excerpt.

There is a civil war brewing in Donkeyland, and if we play this right we can exploit it to great advantage.

It may not seem like it, but we are gaining ground.

1 This author is pretty clueless because she's criticizing the method by which McCaskill won her first race, by seeking out every Blue vote in the state there was to be had.  She feels slighted, but is she going to stop voting for Democrats?  Her worry of blacks giving up on the electoral process I have no way of gauging.

2 Yep. She forgets that McCaskill never did win cleanly, neither over Talent (who conceded rather than drag out a long destructive recount as the Dems are doing) nor over Akin, who was taken out by the GOP itself. (Well, that and his own diarrhea of the mouth.) There has never been a whole lot of love for Air Claire here.

I agree Anonymous; I think this story is more pique than anything. I wanted to post it because it suggests the Dems aren't as happy as the media is portraying them. We can take some comfort from that.

They'll be buying snowshoes in Hell before she flips on the Dems, methinks.

3 Oh, by the way, she mentions the State Auditor being the sole Democrat in Mo.  Funny; isn't that the person who is going to control the next redistricting?  I know; there will be a "commissioner" but he will be appointed by the Auditor. The current Auditor's term will last until 2022, past the next census.

What's the point of elections if we win and have the fruits thereof taken away through sneaky things like that amendment?

4 Some additions to your good points: McCaskill went further in spending money in the primary to get Akin nominated as her opponent.  I've heard at the supposition or rumor level that McSally won the primary in part with crossover votes, choosing an overly cautious in campaigning NeverTrump Senate candidate helps explain why she didn't win beyond the margin of cheating, while the Republican gubernatorial candidate won by 15%.

The state auditor position is uniquely elected in the off season, giving a party the opportunity to concentrate resources unlike in a year where all the other state level positions are up for grabs.  Although I expect they're planning on completely controlling the country as well as the state by the 2030 Census....

And the "Clean Missouri" scheme certainly figured that the current, photogenic, originally appointed by Nixon auditor would likely win on the strength of her good as far as I can tell auditing history, if you ignore her showing her true colors by piling on Greitens, which alone had me planning to vote against her prior to learning these details about the scheme.

5 Excellent points all, Anonymous!  Yes, McSally showed precisely what was wrong with the McCainian Republicans in Arizona.

Agreed; the current Auditor is going to prove a partisan hack, and we'll wind up with the Dems making a comeback after redistricting in Missouri. No question in my mind of that.

I don't know why the Mo. GOP didn't fight this stupid "Clean Missouri (Out) Act".

But then, our old RINO  buddy John  Danforth was pushing it.
